Settings to Low, FSR on
Text legibility is a fact of life on a small screen like this in a game with distant road signs
This game is CPU limited, however expect GPU usage to max out at 60% and CPU at 33%.
Not recommended on Steam Deck despite Playable category due to screen size. Expect 60fps at 360p (800p at 50% scaling, all Low settings) and yet still slowdowns in npc vehicle-populated areas. I could not get better cpu/GPU utilization rates no matter what settings I used. Much less eye strain on an external monitor but the frame rate and low resolution will wear on you. You're better off playing this on desktop PC.
Plays fine with minor tweaks - disable Uplay notifications.
Takes 5-10 minutes for shaders to load. Quite smooth experience, similar or better to Windows. Steam Controller support is superb.
If not working, try 5.0-10, or try your preferred Proton GE flavor (ProtonUp-Qt)
Significant frametime spike on muzzle flash when shooting starter weapon. Occurred on 7.0rc2-GE1, 6.3-8, 5.13-6. Fixed with 5.0-10 Intro video is corrupted, either delete it or click mouse to skip.
Tried experimental, hotfix, GE 9-15,9-14,7-24, Proton 8, 7, 6.03. None worked, I suspect we are missing a video codec.
Plays out of the box. Able to alt+tab. No crashes yet. No audio issues. Feels like a native release.
PopOS, Nvidia 535.113.01 Driver, Linux version of CS2, no complaints just installed and played.
Unable to launch until I replaced the x64 binaries (see PC Gaming Wiki). Also deleted intro videos, that may have made the difference. The game runs fine but pegs a single core to 100%, so CPU use looks funny as MangoHud reports I'm using 16% of my 2600X.
12W TDP
720p, borderless full screen, vsync on, 30fps limit. Max res 100%, min res 66%, TAAU, 4 characters, 5 character shadow distance. All else low EXCEPT High character model detail, medium texture resolution. QAM: 90hz, allow tearing, 12W limit. This balances visual quality with 30fps gameplay. I also tried 1080p (switch to windowed, select 1080, switch back to borderless), 66% max and min, it's a bit crisper but averages 26-28. I also tried the FSR3+FG, it's worse visually and higher latency, but provides 50+ fps. Kind of apples vs oranges. Check YouTube for guides on that.
Direct3D and Vulkan launch options work great. Smooth 120fps.
Game display will often hang with audio/gameplay intact in the background after 2-ish hours of continuous play. If you've made it past Elysium, recommend saving and quitting before playing further.
AA to Low, Graphics to Medium, Resolution to 800P
External keyboard input ceased in the options menu, resorted to controller inputs
Installed via Heroic. Does not launch via Heroic: "must install visual c++"; Add shortcut to Steam, force Proton-GE-43, game now launches. Plays fine.
The game probably won't work without installing ProtonUp-Qt and GE-Proton7-24 first. You may need to delete the compatdata folder if it already exists (if you tried to run the game once before).
Worked with protontricks as suggested in other reviews. 1080P, Steam Controller set to gamepad config.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Difficult to launch successfully at first, a combination of launch commands and older Proton versions seems to work, but did eventually play.
Requires some tinkering
Plays quite nicely in Borderless mode, and no Glorious Eggroll required.
Videos show a black screen in full screen mode, but windowed with invisible borders fixes the problem. Before you start a new game, be sure to set display type to Windowed Borderless from the in-game menu.
High settings, ~80FPS with RTX2060. Really nice Steam Input support from the developer, but you may want to view the community configs for your Steam Controller, as the default config does not bind the gyro. The community config "A Config You Can't Refuse" works much better.
If you bought on Steam, use Native mode (that is, go to ROTRR in Steam, go to Properties, Compatibility tab, leave unchecked)
DX11: Perfect, supports HBAO+, looks just slightly better than Native
DX12: Grey flickering artifacts like tv snow
DX11: Solid performance, supports HBAO+, can double/triple buffer vsync
DX12: Poor performance
Very High @ 1080p:
Native: ~80-90FPS with NPCs, 100+ without
Proton 6.3-8: DX11 & HBAO+, 60FPS in Siberian wilderness, 40FPS with enemies
Proton 6.3-8: DX12 & HBAO+, 40FPS facing a wall, 25FPS looking ahead/at foliage
Launches, reaches 4% loading, then Unity window opens and loads to 100%, then game crashes, using Proton 6.3-7 and Proton Experimental.
On launch simply displays a Windows Explorer shell. Press the green Up arrow to back one directory, then double click the application in that dir (can use Steam+trackpad and steam+trigger). The game will now launch to main menu. Put shadows to low and everything else to medium achieves 30-40fps. Set a keyboard and mouse config.
Plays great on Deck OLED with two settings modes and Draw Distance set to medium:
- 90fps: Set in-game Framerate to Vsync/2, then set QAM to Disable Frame Limit, TDP Limit 12 Watts. Seems pretty stable, sometimes dips into 80s
- 60fps: Set in-game Framerate to 60fps, then set QAM to 90 FPS limit (or try disable frame limit, allow tearing). Seems pretty stable, sometimes dips to 57. Towns with NPCs always slow down a bit.
Overall performance is very good - so long as YOU do the crew invites. If your game crashes you may not be able to re-join your crew.
Spinning the mouse rapidly can occasionally cause brief 3-second hangs, but the game will recover.
Game may freeze after 4 hours of continuous play
9 times out of 10, unable to accept invites from other players and/or join their game; mic chat may or may not work (not tested);
A on R4/R5, Magnifier on L5
Text is small.
Performance is variable. Set 1200x800, 80% resolution scale, 60fps limit, vertical sync off. Then in QAM set 12W TDP cap and 1200mhz GPU clock cap. I also experimented with Power Tools (via Decky Loader) locking CPU to min 3000 max 3500, and governer set to performance, didn't help a lot.
Quite playable, looks good, could be smoother but I'll take it.
GDF mission brief video led to crash, reloaded with proton 9-6. Skipping video also worked.
60fps cap in QAM, allow tearing
70-90fps is attainable, at cost of battery life. Plays fine at 60fps. Env/load distance/textures to high, PP/effects/AA/Shadows to low. Supports 1280x800 too!
