This game is obviously delisted and everyone will likely just go play the remake, but for what it's worth it is playable on Steam Deck, just that since the game was made with M&K in mind, controller support is non existent. Nothing a community layout can't fix.
In winecfg, disable both:
- "Allow the window manager to decorate windows"
- "Allow the window manager to control the windows"
This fixes the game minimizing and not restoring back. If a window displays, make sure the game settings are set to fullscreen mode.

With gamemoderun, it wouldn't launch at all for me. These args were needed for it to launch without immediately freezing on a black screen, and switching to Proton 5.13-6 fixed audio in cutscenes.
Still holds up
Some ingame features are tried to frame rate. Use mangohud or such to limit it
If you are considering playing Extreme Free Ride, use frame limiter

Game crashes if you alt-tab out the game, you have to keep on the window at all times.
The only problem is the windowing and alt-tab issue. It is a pain but I could live with it. The game worked pretty well except for that. My launch arguments are for the widescreen fix. They shouldn't be needed without that.
The game kept running setup.exe instead of the normal game.
Here are the steps to fix it:
- Set your Steam interface language to English.
- Run setup.exe, configure your settings and save it.
- Start the game (now it should run the accuall game).
- Set your Steam interface language back to yours.
- Go to the Steam library, right click on Mafia and then click > Properties > General > Language and choose any language you want.
- Steam will download the correct language of the game and then it should work!

A classic game that a chromebook should be able to run well but was a real disaster in the end
images were half on the screen and half off the screen
this game uses F1 - F12 and on a Chromebook it is not possible to use these keys

Launching the game returns an init error error: #4205 Generic...
Changed a registry key because the game kept opening settings instead of launching. I had to do this on windows too, so it shouldn't count.
The game used to work when I used arch or debain so this could just be my fault
yeah definitely the guy who wants to experience the old games look and having a punch of nostalgia will definitely love this

At times when driving through the city, the game fails to maintain 60fps droping slightly below it.
The game is obviously designed around the keyboard and mouse and can be challenging at times, but with gyro enabled it seems to be fully playable with Steam Deck's controls. At times, when driving through the city it can fail to maintain 60 fps, but these drops are generally nothing that affects the enjoyment from the game.

Works perfectly fine even without tinkering. Overall enjoyable experience. I strongly recommend installing D8VK to make the game overall more smooth, plus it's going to run better.

Intro videos are without sound (in-game cutscenes unaffected).
Sometimes the sound of idling engine (of an NPC vehicle) gets corrupted (volume and bass boosted), it ends when the vehicle starts moving again. Seems to happen only if many vehicles are idling close to each other (waiting on a red light at a busy intersection).
Overall better experience than on Windows where I encountered plenty of graphical glitches. The audio issues are minor and can be easily ignored.
Intro movies are without sound (I would count that as a pro), rest works flawlessly (even the commonly reported cutscenes play audio for me)

The game did not start right away, it was necessary to set the graphics settings to high, maybe this helped
If you van ignore the missing cut scene sound, you can enjoy.

Tried run with/without custom params. proron current/experimental/old. all i can see is setup window - no matter what i choose setup or play. platinum not deserved.

with little thinkering about the audio issues in cutscene (just change proton version as described) and using community layout (i made the upper one and but there are other) the game is playable without issues

Difficult to launch successfully at first, a combination of launch commands and older Proton versions seems to work, but did eventually play.

Proton 5.0-10 works with audio out-of-box.
With Proton 6.3-8/7.0-4 videos has no audio. Cutscenes are with audio.
For non-english versions needs to start with english version, setup options, switch to non-english version.
