DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun
Game keep up good fps value only on lowest settings, and it's getting worse the further in the game you go XD and it uses about 11GB of ram
it is playable and I beat the game many times, but it could be better
gamemoderun mangohud %command% -vulkan -threads 12
had to set everything on low and fsr of performance to be able to play on stable 75FPS capped by Mangohud (IF you set FPS limit in game setting it sets your monitors fps so it's pretty much bullsh*t)
It's terrible. CSGO worked really good. I can't play on proton because it sees it as ingeretion in files and I can't access vac servers. It doesn't matter anyway because performance on proton is the same
gamemoderun %command%
Game utilizes a lot of resources and overall works like shit on above than low settings
Tips for changing proton versions to older or trying gamemode are basically a placebo. For cheer I will say that on windows, on the same hardware configuration game works as shitty as on linux, at least in my case, maybe it has something to do with amd...
Ultra settings, 1440p 144Hz, Perfect
cutscenes don't play, even when selected from extras menu
works out of the box
2nd display goes black when game is playing
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 --vulkan-only
it works horrible on my system. max 60fps on lowest sttings.
it is fun but prepare to play on lowest settings in a game that is basically a doom .wad
I had maybe 3-4 crashes for two whole playthroughs so it works better than on windows back in the days
proton_no_fsync=1
you need to play with proton_no_fsync=1 to finish one of the first missions
-Disable Esync
on all lowest settings it take up to 8GB or ram and 4GB of VRAM. With only textures set to "ultra" it took 12GB of RAM and 8GB of VRAM. No crashes but it's not normal
without "-Disable Esync" it's a slideshow. With esync disabled, it works excellent, but the RAM and VRAM drain is kinda fishy
The game works pretty good out of the box. I don't remember why I switched to proton GE. Keep in mind that there are some in game bugs that can crash whole game, for example: Trying to eat food from looted enemies eq or trying to peek when you are in lower crouch.
Without steam commands or editing hosts file (thank you protondb contributor) it would be really masihistic to play this game
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=75 DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
<30 fps when near the water
I finished this game 2 times on windows and I don't remember that many cyberpunk like bugs with people being teleported on roof of the cars but it's not a big deal it's just a funny bug
DX 10&11 mode works better for me than DX9. I locked FPS to 75 because regardless of settings the game can barely maintain this, not mentioning 144
I had to edit PersistentSymbols.ini to not see some objects through map, there is a guide to this on steam.
on fullscreen, the screen is a little cut on the lower part and on windowed it is completely broken on 1440p, just black screen
after some time or after bad loaded quicksave (probably?) there could appear weird fps drops only when I move a mouse, game restart helps for that.
It's playable but there are fps drops on any settings, high or low. Something is not right with waterfalls and overall particles.
Game works kinda bad, high gpu usage and fps drops when I look for example at waterfall.
It works better with proton.
On native version it stutters often and mangohud breaks the game
it's a solid game, I played through new dlc without issues
alt+tab crashes game
minor frame drops in specific locations but it's the same on windows too
I didn't try multiplayer
It's very old game but it runs as on windows.
I recommend to install some mods and tinker in files to made it open in modern resolution, it's all in steam's guides :)
Linux version run only 1st time and then never again :(
In order to make Retribution work (that is currentyl not listed in ProtonDB) you need to use winetricks (protontricks don't work only with this game in my case) to install additional windows components if you want to have more than 3 fps and textures with different colors than black.
so here is the command since no one gave it before: WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/56400/pfx winetricks
and then install: d3dx9 d3dx9_42 d3dcompiler_42 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_47 dxvk vcrun2013
Works pretty well and stable.
I was able to see loading textures when I move camera but it's common to this engine
I have all AMD setup and I experience drops to ~20 FPS in only one location in first level, probably because of some kind of fog or smoke. Rest of the game works great to the end
