Alt-tabbing causes the keyboard shortcuts to not register properly forcing a restart.
Sometimes the game froze. Only happened on the Meridian maps.

gamemoderun ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 %command%
Just works OoTB. Vkbasalt and gamemode are not mandatory to play this one, but they doesn't tax your system and enhances your gameplay, so it's up to personal preference.

Feral Interactive's native port has always been poor, but, as of the Anniversary Edition update, it appears to have become unplayable; it consistently crashes at the mission results screen, meaning that it's impossible ever to complete a mission. Fortunately, the Windows version plays fine through Proton.

Linux version run only 1st time and then never again :(
In order to make Retribution work (that is currentyl not listed in ProtonDB) you need to use winetricks (protontricks don't work only with this game in my case) to install additional windows components if you want to have more than 3 fps and textures with different colors than black.
so here is the command since no one gave it before: WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/56400/pfx winetricks
and then install: d3dx9 d3dx9_42 d3dcompiler_42 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_47 dxvk vcrun2013

Texture colors are scrambled, i.e. inquisitor on menu white and black all over
i've never been able to find a solution to this problem, but then again i did tech support on the internet, what did i expect

Despite there allegedly being a native linux port and a beta that says linux, i am incapable of playing this game
Guess i have a reason not to change my laptop over to linux yet

install win7 d3dx9 d3dx9_42 d3dcompiler_42 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_47 dxvk
Native port by Feral Interactive crashes immediately.
Solid squad-tactics RTS that time cannot erode.

Native port is fine, Proton has better performance and has working multiplayer
Performance of the native Linux port is measurably worse than running the Windows build via Proton. YMMV depending on the hardware.
In classic Feral fashion, you cannot play multiplayer with other Windows users if you have the native port installed. This can be solved by running the game through Proton instead. As far as the native port goes I consider this non-functional since the vast majority still playing DoW are on Windows.
The native port just works for me, and as I just want to play the campaign for now, I didn't bother setting up Proton the first time. Performance is worse but I was still pushing past 120fps on my hardware so YMMV. Because this is a port by Feral, you simply can't play online with other Windows players, and you need Proton if you wanna do so.

Must installs dependancies with Protontricks for Base Game and both DLCs in order to make everything working
protontricks 15620 d3dx9 win7 d3dx9_42 d3dcompiler_42 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_47 dxvk && protontricks 20570 d3dx9 win7 d3dx9_42 d3dcompiler_42 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_47 dxvk && protontricks 56400 d3dx9 win7 d3dx9_42 d3dcompiler_42 d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_47 dxvk

gamemoderun %command%
Just installed additionally:
- vcrun2013
Wrong texture scaling, and "weird" appearences of some textures. The geometry was fine though
Saving the game is fine, but the Steam Cloud did not work.
The games was basically unplayable, about 4 FPS
It appears that the Windows version also suffers from this issue, namely the VC runtime components are causing bad performance.
Installing the VC Runtime within proton tricks did the trick though: Instant 300 FPS@1440p. Textures where also fixed afterwards.

It install's loads vulkan shaders then it just shuts down. The same happens for all it's dlc's and Dawn of war three.
It loads the vulkan shaders then it just shuts down.
Many keyboard commands did not function
Works perfectly out of the box.
sync to cloud fails
Native linux version works fine with cloud sync BUT onscreen keyboard wouldn't allow text to be entered into text boxs.
Fixed keyboard by running with proton experimental, but breaks cloud sync.
Everything else runs great
install DXVK, d3dx9_42, d3dcompiler_42, d3dcompiler_43, and d3dcompiler_47.
gamemoderun ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 %command%
- Tried MP, but didn't found any games to join, so can't say anything about this mode; maybe trying in a different time could bring better results ;)
- Launch options totaly optional, but installing gamemode and vkBasalt provide enhancements in image quality and performance.
Game won't run at all under any circumstances.
Couldn't launch either the game nor it's expansions with either native or proton or proton-ge. Nothing happens in most cases, with GE somehow launching a black screen.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Needed to set launch options to get it to work

Linux Native and Proton Version Doesn't work
Does not launch with any available version of Proton or current Proton GE(6.20-GE-1). When launching, will immediately go to black screen and then will get message that game is not responding. Linux native doesn't work either. In that case, game launches fine and menu will load, but when launching a level or performance test, the loading screen will remain and you can briefly hear sfx as if the level loaded, but is not visible nor reactive to keyboard or mouse input. This applies to Dawn of War II, Chaos Rising, and Retribution. All behave identically.
Linux version did not boot, ran with Proton 6.3 with no noticed flaws
Works great with Proton 4.2-9
Freezed or didn't launch at all with any Proton version other than 4.2-9

Native Linux version is broken, but Proton 5.13-0 works
Runs using Proton 4.11-13
Constant super loud crackling whitte noise.
Running the game in Native mode is now broken. I had to use Proton 4-2-9 now to launch the game. New Proton version crash right away
Works flawlessly with proton while as the native version is borked
Occasionally the audio will temporarily mute, normally when something "big" happens like a large artillery strike or something.
Native version is borked on my PC, crashes immediately after the launcher. The proton version just works.
I was able to play co-op with my brother.
native multiplayer only works with linux and mac.
Runs out the box
Keep in mind for multi player it does not cross-play with windows

Unfortunately the game shows only a black screen, both with D9VK and wined3d

Game works native and on Proton out of the box. I installed manually D9VK and it worked with this DX9 to Vulkan translation, but there are a lot of graphical glitches.
