Freezes as soon as I start a game. If I continue a game, it freezes during loading; If I start a new game, it shows the intro scene then freezes as soon as the game starts, and all I get is a black screen. I tried disabling d3d11 and using wined3d11 and neither made any difference. I don't understand what is causing it, because on Proton 3.x this game worked without tweaks.
I take back my previous report of bronze, which was due to a black screen appearing whenever a video starts, I thought the game was freezing. After playing Mass Effect, I discovered there is a noticeable delay with Proton 4.2-9 before a video starts. It runs fine out of the box, but I am still getting lag.
Could not get Uplay to open properly. Had some success though.
- set PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command% in the launcher options, this will fix the black screen.
- press play and the Activator will appear; with Anno 2070 selected in the Steam Client, under LINKS, click CD KEY, press "Copy to clipboard" button, close the CD KEY UI,
- wait for the Autopatcher to start (may take a while), if you don't get the warning dialog saying "could not connect to update server", press cancel and try again, autopatcher should open first, again (may take a while), if you get the warning press OK,
- wait for Uplay patcher to start (may take a while), allow it to complete, if the game crashes after this, start the game again.
- the Autopatched partially patched the game, then I got a "could not connect to update server warning", then pressed OK.
- wait for Uplay updater to start, allow to complete (2 stages).
- then Uplay updater closes, and nothing happens. I can see Uplay.exe running in processes, but the UI never opens, have to "end process" in System Monitor to close it.
Autopatcher doesn't always work, sometimes it starts patching, then says it could not connect to update server; sometimes it only says it could not connect to the update server and sometimes it has could not open "update/version.txt file" and does nothing. If I get the "could not connect to update server", I can get to Uplay which launches perfectly. But I still cannot play Anno 2070, because the game has not been patched. Rating : Uplay-platinum; Anno 2070-gold/platinum (most likely), Autopatcher-bronze/silver.
Runs perfectly out of the box, except that there is a delay before it starts, and the initial screen is blank.
The game crashes after a few seconds without wined3d, though it did run without it on earlier versions of Proton. However, my computer does not fully support vulkan, so I am not sure whether the problem is with Proton or my computer.
Would not start without using either WineD3D11 or D3D9, I initially got better performance with D3D9. However, whichever I used the game froze after just a few minutes.
The server for Fallen Earth has been taken offline, indefinitely.
The developers of Fallen Earth decided to shutdown all servers for Fallen Earth due to low player count. However, they did promise a reboot at some point in the future.
Game runs perfectly out of the box, except for a mouse lagging issue. WHowever, I fixed that issue by opening the config file at : "/.steam/steam/compdata/38410/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/Fallout2/677556b5b09c9470a35e2dc3aa800011/f2_res.ini", and under [INPUT], changing ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=0 to ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=1
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command%
sometimes kept turning my character even after I had stopped pressing the stick on my gamepad. Also, 'A' input was sometimes ignored, or there as a delay before it was processed.
Basically runs perfectly out of the box, except for a strange mouse cursor lagging issue. Could not figure out how to fix the mouse lag issue though. Though using windowed mode, and changing screen settings to low where possible helps a lot.
I had previously reported that the game seemed to work fine, except for the mouse lagging. However, I fixed that issue by opening the config file at : "/.steam/steam/compdata/38400/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/Fallout/bb28d76319b6395c5fe7783fa4377a15/f1_res.ini", and under [INPUT], changing ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=0 to ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=1
I have now played the game for an hour, and everything is perfectly after config tweak. Change ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=0 to ALT_MOUSE_INPUT=1 to fix mouse lag.
Game crashes before launch with wined3d. With wined3d the game loads, gets to the main menu, but I can no longer interact with anything due a error dialog appearing in the background. Have to SUPER+D to hide the window. Error dialog says : "Unable to resize swapchainbuffers.. DXError: D3DERR_INVALIDCALL." Also, after this error, if I try to relaunch the game, the steam says running, but nothing happens and I have to force close the game.
- In the Launch Options set PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%, this will allow the game to use more than 4GB of RAM, and helps prevent crashes after exiting a video. 2) Go "%HOME%/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Mass Effect/" 3) Open the "BioGame/Config/" directory, and open DefaultEngine.ini, find the section called "[ISACTAudio.ISACTAudioDevice]", and add "DeviceName=Generic Software" without quotes, and add "UseEffectsProcessing=False" without quotes, to enable sound. If you are experiencing lag during gameplay, in the game directory, as mentioned before, open the directory "/Mass Effect/Enging/Config/", then open "BaseEditor.ini" and under the section called "[CurveEd]", change the value of "MaxViewRange" by deleting some of the zeros before the decimal point.
Works perfectly after setting PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1, before that the game would not even start.
Did not run before setting : PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%, in the Launch Options. Seems to work perfectly, as in, no noticeable bugs, still has lag, but bearable. Additional Tweaks : Disabling the Steam Overlay on low-end computers helps boost performance but a surprising amount in some games, other games, no noticeable change with or without the overlay. With the Steam Overlay enabled in the main Settings for games that require it, such as Fallout Shelter, right-click a Game > Properties > Enable Steam Overlay while in-game > make sure its unchecked to disable the overlay for this game only.
I can launch the game without using "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%", however all text are colored squares, and the in-game rendering is terrible, npcs and some furniture does not render at all, and outside some of the map appears with or without the map open, no visible terrain, except for what looks like water everywhere. The machines don't render, either. But with "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" on, I get no bugs, only some lag.
Runs perfectly out of the box.
I have made a number of reports previously, and in each I marked the game as gold compatibility. I did this because of faulty rendering when I tried to use the vulkan renderer. However, the computer I was using only partially supports vulkan, so I was unsure if the issue was caused by Proton, Vulkan or my computer. I am now convinced that the issue was solely caused by my computer. So all of my previous reports should be considered as Platinum compatibility.
launches but only shows black screen with "SUBTITLES PLACEHOLDER" displayed. Had to kill the process to close it.
Essentially runs perfectly out of the box, except for complaint that the game can't detect my gpu.
Initially when I launched the game the title screen/s were blank redish pink color, the main menu had no background, and all text were colored blocks. So I stopped the game, and set PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to the Launch Options, and now all the visuals render correctly, except for lag, both in gameplay, and flickering shadows.
Blank splash screens, and and polygon blocks instead of in-game text before enabling 'PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%", visually everything renders properly but then i get extreme lag.
runs perfectly out of the box
There is still an issue with my graphics card not being correctly detected and/or identified, as I am still getting an unsupported graphics card warning dialog upon launching the game. However, seems to have no in-game effect, as the game still uses my graphics card to render the game and I never experienced any graphical issues.
Does not start. Did notice the readme.txt file that is located in "steamapps/Survivalist" states that the .Net Framework version 4.0 and XNA Framework version 4.0 are both required to play the game, but both don't install completely yet. Might be the cause of the problem. I could not find a crash log to verify the cause of the crash.
Game launches, but either crashes at the start menu and when I start a game.
runs, incorrectly renders title screen, menu screen starts with sound playing but title screen is still visible. I tried to edit "Preferences.ini" to attempt some of the fixes mentioned on "https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Longest_Journey", but could not find the file in any of the 3 locations mentioned to check. The locations are : 1) the install directory "/home//.steam/steam/steamapps/common/The Longest Journey", 2) "C:/users//AppData/Roaming/The Longest Journey", 3) there is a note stating if the game is run without admin privileges activity may be redirected to "C:/users//AppData/Local/VirtualStore" probably into a subdirectory called "The Longest Journey", does not say for sure though. I believe the absence of the "Preferences.ini" file is responsible for the game not working.
I got the game to play. First, create a file in "/home//.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/6310/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/The Longest Journey" name it preferences.ini. Populate that file, like this : [Preferences] AudioDevice=directsound bool_HighResVideo=0 SfxVolume=1.000000 VoiceVolume=1.000000 MusicVolume=1.000000 bool_Subtitles=1 bool_AprilHighRes=0 bool_ShadowsOn=1 bool_AllowFastForward=0 [DirectX] bool_IsDoubleBuffer=1 int_bitDepth=16 bool_ShadowsOn=0 bool_UseHardware=1 bool_StartFullscreen=0. NOTE: put each entry on a new line, if you confused there is a file in "/Application Data/The Longest Journey Demo" that you can view to see the format to use; bool_UseHardware=1 must be the same or the game crashes; bool_StartFullscreen=0 must be the same or only the top left corner of the rendered screen is visible. Save the file. Make sure to leave the window in the top left corner of the screen, because the game seems to render based on 0:0 coordinates of the monitor, not the window, as moving the window would move away from the rendered screen.

Th Exit confirmation dialog is blank.
Have to create a preferences.ini file in "/home//.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/6310/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/The Longest Journey", as described in previous post. bool_UseHardware must be on, and bool_Startfullscreen must be on, because while the game itself renders relative to the window, cutscenes seem to be rendering based on the 0,0 coordinates of the desktop. I am getting a very low crackling of audio during conversations. Also, you have to be moving the mouse while double-clicking to get the popup menu to appear.
I had to create a "preferences.ini" file in "/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/6310/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/The Longest Journey" or copy the file in "/Application Data/The Longest Journey Demo" into "/The Longest Journey". Under section [DirectX] add the entry "bool_Startfullscreen=0" without quotes. Save the file. In-game renders relative to the window, but cutscenes render relative to 0,0 coordinates of the desktop. Fullscreen only shows the top left corner of the screen. There is an occasional crackling sound in the audio. I had to be moving the mouse while clicking to the interaction menu to popup. The confirmation dialog is blank, but press the 'Y' key for yes, and the 'N' key for no. Seems like a lot of issues. But its really only 4, 1) you have to manually create/edit the preferences.ini in order to play in windowed mode, 2) the window needs to be in the top left corner, 3) interaction menu is tempermental, and 4) the confirmation box is blank. Other than that, the game runs perfectly fine. There is a note on "https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Longest_Journey" to fix the blank confirmation dialog box, to add the command line "-DisableMaxWindowedMode" without quotes, but this did not work for me. There is also mentioned a option to use software mode, that is, under [DirectX] add or edit "bool_UseHardware=1", the default, to "bool_UseHardware", but this does not work, because the game immediately crashes upon launch in software mode.
First, save a file in "/steamapps/compatdata/6310/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/The Longest Journey", and name it "Preferences.ini"
`Populate the file as follows:`
[Preferences]
AudioDevice=directsound
SfxVolume=1.000000
VoiceVolume=1.000000
MusicVolume=1.000000
bool_Subtitles=1
bool_AprilHighRes=1
bool_ShadowsOn=1
bool_HighResVideo=1
bool_AllowFastForward=0
[DirectX]
bool_IsDoubleBuffer=1
int_bitDepth=16
bool_UseHardware=1
bool_StartFullScreen=0
Confirmation dialog is blank. Press 'Y' for yes, and 'N' for no to workaround this problem.
The Interaction Popup menu can be hard to activate. Moving the mouse around and repeatedly clicking is only known workaround.
Campaign mode only gets through the initial cutscenes, then a black screen. Survival mode works, though. There is an issue with previous onscreen text not being cleared before new text is displayed, and the won't save due to an error.
