No issues whatsoever, runs perfectly.
This game has online multiplayer, but I did not test it. When I graded "Local Multiplayer," I was considering the Practice Mode to be that, as it allows the local player to control both black and white pieces and play against themselves. Two players could hotswap this for local multiplayer.
Certain DLC and features seem to require Windows, or work better in the Windows version (FreePlay maps work much better it seems). Game runs perfectly without any required steps.
Game runs perfectly out of the box. Good performance throughout, and even played co-op with a friend for a while.
The game is even unoptimized on Windows, so I was not expecting good performance. In my case, even the menus were getting sub-15 FPS. This is certainly a game issue over a Proton one, though.
The game even lags on Windows, though I've seen Windows users reporting 30-50 FPS in some cases. I could not get more than 15 on my hardware even with settings all the way down, so it's either related to hardware or Proton, but I believe it to be the former.
Ran perfectly out-of-the-box. Played for 5 hours on max graphics with no notable issues. May experience framedrops from lighting effects occasionally, or object spam. Game never reached an "unplayable" state, though.
Game ran perfectly out of the box. Played several matches without issue.
Sometimes ambient sounds will begin playing without other effects or speech. This self-corrects after a few seconds.
I use Proton-7.1-GE-2 at the time of writing. But I have no doubts that standard Proton would work just as well.
This game is still very early, and has bugs to it regardless. But it has charm, and works great on Proton.
If your game crashes occasionally, or crashes with a graphics memory warning when it shouldn't, increase max memory maps by running sudo sysctl vm.max_map_count=1000000
Played the first several levels, and it works perfectly out of the box. Alt-tab or minimizing will cause it to blackscreen/break resolution. Can be resolved on a temporary basis by toggling to Windowed mode via Alt-Enter. Not serious enough of an issue to make me lower my rating.
Mouse drift issue still happens when scrolling, which one will do often in this game. If you have a mouse with customizable DPI, you can turn the in-game mouse sensitivity all the way down and turn your DPI up very high to get a pretty normal experience. This eliminates the drift down to an imperceptible level. Gamepads do seem to work fine, though all I had to test with was an XBOne controller which the game doesn't seem to provide quite enough customization for to my liking. Though it does function.
As of Proton 3.16-8, the mouse drifting issue has been eliminated. The game now runs flawlessly as far as I can tell.
With the TerrainTesselation set to Low in the XML file mentioned below, the game runs flawlessly. I was able to fly around to other planets and explore/build without issue, and save/load games. No other tweaks necessary.
Jittery unless played in OpenGL mode. Sometimes textures seem to flicker black, and the 3DMark screen does not appear as mentioned before. Game is still extremely playable despite this.
Note: This build of the game has occasional crashes on Windows. If it crashes, it does not necessarily have to do with Proton.
Runs perfectly, although I get occasional camera flickering. Requires some workarounds for mfplat.dll. Installed by following a video guide found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcCJSm3IoMY
Runs perfectly out of the box. Also runs perfectly using the Stalker Complete mod. Other mods not tested.
Framedrops occur when seemingly building shader cache, framerate and gameplay was perfect afterward. What frame drops do occur are usually very minimal.
I have KVM installed and needed to disable my virbr0 virtual network device, similarly to how another user had to disable the docker device. If a virtual network device is up when the game launches, any attempt to join or host games will fail. Once they are disabled, it will work fine. I also recommend setting the game's network quality as high as possible in general, on any OS.
Played multiplayer with friends without issue. The only notable problem I had was I seemingly could not join their games. However, I could not isolate this as a Proton issue. Unless mentioned otherwise, I'm assuming it was unrelated to Proton. Worked around at the time by hosting a game myself.
Runs perfectly aside from occasionally having the UI freeze, sometimes requiring a system restart to clear. Very rare, however.
Game ran perfectly without issues. Occasional framedrops, but resolved themselves almost immediately.
The game runs flawlessly. On my hardware I averaged between 70-100FPS. Drops below 60 would've also occurred on Win.
Swapping from fullscreen to fullscreen window triggered a freeze. Fullscreen window remained applied after restart without issue.
If the stability I experienced in recent tests continues, the game runs very well.
When I first installed the game and played with Proton, it would crash upon loading worlds frequently. As of the latest Proton version, I have not experienced crashes. The game is free so there is no real risk if this changes, but your mileage could vary.
VR not tested as my HMD does not function on Linux at this time. Only tested in Desktop mode.
