Everything works as expected out of the box.
Disconnections happen but it is hard to tell if the game itself is not to blame.
Apart from a few stability issues in multiplayer mode, everything works as expected. The multiplayer issues seem to affect Windows players too.
Does not launch at all.
Does not launch at all, even with some tinkering.
Audio crackling is really annoying, but it is not a Linux-only issue. Hopefully, CDPR will patch this at some point.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command% --launcher-skip --skipStartScreen
AFAIK, there are currently two causes: the first one is that CDPR broke the audio in a patch which landed in all platforms in March 2022 (most platforms exhibits this behavior, the PC version is the worst one). The second cause seemed to be that PulseAudio is somewhat overwhelmed with 14 channels to deal with, especially since the game does not always deactivate the surround setting.
You should wait for CDPR to fix their bugs before blaming Proton, Wine, vkd3d, etc. On the other hand, the PulseAudio team should be made aware of how their project is falling short when it comes to such use cases.
Works flawlessly out of the box
Always running at 1440p@60FPS with highest settings (do not forget to change from 30 to 60 in the settings).
Runs flawlessly without tinkering.
Valve AntiCheat (VAC)
Runs way better than the native build.
Works almost flawlessly out of the box, even on humble hardware.
Alt-Tab makes the game crashes.
Some stuttering occurs.
I had 5 random crashes in 100+ hours.
Game starts but failed to sign in into Xbox Live
The game starts and display the main menu but encounters an error while signing in into Xbox Live. So unable to play anything because the Xbox Live sign in is mandatory to play. The sound worked and it starts up with no other issue.
Starts and shows initial logo - after that black screen
Black screen after the initial logos display
CTD when gaming actually starts
Crash to desktop each time when starting game from the main menu.
Works flawlessly except for a few crashes from time to time, after a few hours in-game.
The only thing currently broken in the default are the videos of the cutscenes, which you can bypass with some custom forks of Protons.
Used Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST
Current Proton (5.0-10) cannot make the videos work, GE custom Proton does. Both runs the game itself flawlessly otherwise.
Stuttering when compiling shaders
You need to install mf-installcab (https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-installcab).
Some cutscenes do not (always) work with official versions of Proton.
Apart from the cutscenes issues, everything works as expected out of the box.
Steam fails to finish the first post-install script because of Origin Client installation
The issue is because the first step of Steam post-install script which is install the Origin Thin Client. Usually, the Origin client displays an error when installing the latest version with the error "3:0". It can also happens that the script does not start at all of stay stuck on "Installing OriginThinClient - step 1/4".
As far as I can tell with my hardware, this game is unplayable because of the low framerate unless you have a (very) overkill machine.
4.21-GE-1 (fork of Proton customized/built by GloriousEggroll) GloriousEggroll
4.21-GE-1 (fork of Proton customized/built by GloriousEggroll)
Game unplayable - framerate ~10FPS
Even the main/in-game menu is slow. Lowering graphics settings does not help with performance. Before trying to rechange them in-game, the framerate was slightly better (~15FPS instead of ~10FPS).
E.g. this game works around 60FPS with the same software tinkering with a Radeon VIII (!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25ymwRayDrE
Works perfectly out of the box without tinkering
I selected the use of Epic Online Services without account, the game only uses my Steam ID to connect my client to others.
This game works perfectly out of the box without tinkering, including multiplayer.
Slight stuttering depending on the area.
Apart from the slight stuttering which affects other platforms, it works perfectly out of the box.
Works perfectly out of the box
I cannot remember what Proton version I had been using, since it was the official one all along, but I had been playing Subnautica through Proton since 2018, and never had any issue. My first complete run was made in December 2018. Nothing to report, not even a glitch.
Does not start
Was working 1 year ago with a kernel version ~4.19. Now, it is not anymore with ~5.4 version. This could be a regression either from the kernel or the Nvidia driver.
