PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
For an untinkering experience, just use the latest Proton experimental provided by Steam to get around the black screen and to use Steam's runtime.
A blackscreen may appear which I believe occurs when switching from the game's window. This is different from the initial menu blackscreen commonly experienced (which can be worked around by passing PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%) but if you experience this, simply maximize and minimize the window
By default the game does not limit the framerate so it will result in high CPU usage. To save battery, I recommend limiting the frame rate to at least 60 fps within the game's settings. It's an advanced option that's present beneath the game window's title bar, which will require you to exit full screen mode to see
Should be a smooth experience by switching to Proton Experimental (version 7) instead of vanilla Proton
Deck Verified
Limit FPS to 30 and use medium graphics
The input key to fast-forward dialogue doesn't seem to be mapped for controllers
With the recent game update, in-game movies are able to play properly with the latest stable version of Proton (7.0-4) so Proton-GE should no longer be required
Game does not map to native Steam Deck controller inputs
Game is playable using a default Proton build, however GE-Proton is required to play the in-game videos. GE-Proton8-22 provides built-in fixes for NUKITASHI and requires no additional steps or actions.
Configured to run at the medium preset but setting the rendering scale to 150%.
The game will run in fullscreen by default and does not save the user's previous display/resolution configuration.
I recommend running the game in windowed mode and upscaling the game with FSR with a value of 1 or 2 for graphical sharpness.
Configured to run at medium, setting the rendering scale to 150% with FXAA anti-aliasing.
I recommend running this game using proton experimental for a recent DXVK version and playing at 60 fps.
gamescope -w 1280 -h 720 -W 1920 -H 1200 -e -U -f -- %command%
Used winetricks to apply the Committee of Zero patch. Although it's for SG0, the guide is applicable to SG: https://sonome.dareno.me/projects/sg0-linux.html
I've observed while playing this game at fullscreen with a 1920x1080 resolution, the game's CPU usage doubles. To save battery while playing with those settings, one way is to install/use gamescope and enable AMD FSR for upscaling
Experienced minor flickering after in-game configuration
Experienced FPS between 25-30 using dxvk
The black flickering is fixed in dxvk @ 80f7d2a
Experienced frequent screen tearing during scene changes
Experienced FPS between 25-30 using dxvk
Using dxvk, the screen will tear temporarily. However, limiting the FPS to 15 seemed to minimized the screen tears
gamescope -w 1280 -h 720 -W 1600 -H 900 -e -U -- %command%
The game's framerate is limited to 30 fps and the native in-game resolution is 1280x720. If one wishes to play fullscreen or at a higher resolution, like a 16:9 aspect ratio ratio, then one way is to install/use gamescope and enable AMD FSR for upscaling
gamescope -w 1280 -h 720 -W 1600 -H 900 -e -U -- %command%
To note, I used a custom proton (version 7) to play the game. Also, the game's framerate is limited to 30 fps and the native in-game resolution is 1280x720. If one wishes to play fullscreen or at a higher resolution, like a 16:9 aspect ratio ratio, then one way is to install/use gamescope and enable AMD FSR for upscaling
Using Wine D3D (PROTON_USE_WINED3D) prevents game from crashing at title menu
Game ran on steam-native with Valve's proton w/o the steam runtime and optimized for specific hardware. Moreover, to properly disable esync and fsync I was required to edit user_settings.py
To note, I used a custom proton (7.02) to play the game and my experience was good. A while ago this game used to crash at the title screen, but the problem seems to be resolved in later versions of proton (7.02 and experimental) so it shouldn't be needed to pass "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%". Also, the game's framerate is limited to 30 fps and the native in-game resolution is 1280x720. If one wishes to play fullscreen or at a higher resolution, like a 16:9 aspect ratio ratio, then one way is to install/use gamescope and enable AMD FSR for upscaling
There are graphical bugs within the game engine that make it unplayble using stable Proton (8.0-4).
Currently, at the time of this writing, this game is unplayable without using Proton Experimental.
Also, in-game videos will be skipped because they are encoded in a format incompatible with Proton.
