Loading new maps blacks out the screen for 10-20 seconds, then runs like usual. Loading the game from desktop leaves black screen and cursor for 30 seconds or more.
Matchmaking never connects. All attempts to play with friends has networking timeout.
Cannot connect to any games in matchmaking or invite/hosting. Just network timeout.
Running on Proton 7.0-4. Every time there is an update it forces the vulkan shaders to reload. This has taken up to 1 hour before. When I tried to skip it the game failed to load, then I tried again and it loaded the game but the load times between maps were very long and occasionally hit stuttering (when interfacing with vending machines, for example). Using the "no startup movies" option still shows 2 of the screens and leaves the screen black for a while before it loads the beginning screen, which kind of blows the point of the command.
I'm not sure what is different with my setup that prevents multiplayer. I have tried turning on crossplay, turning it off, setting to invite only, Updating my information in the SHIFT account, changing my SHIFT name to different from my steam name, joining invites from desktop, joining from inside game, joining group from menu, and hosting trying all the same options, changing the server region and my vpn server to the same region as friend. Nothing will connect.
Minor scroll issues but solid out of box
Sometimes the scrolling would fight against you in the match. Cards in the inventory would start to move but then snap back to their original position.
Before installing my nvidia drivers the game refused to load so nouveau driver might not work with it.
Seems to install but won't run
Install dialog ran. After pushing play button Steam says the game is playing but then stops with no errors or any windows opening.
Updated drivers, still not working
No tweaks, just updated drivers to 440.64 and kernel. Still won't run. Waiting for my OS to have the new 440.82 driver that supposedly fixes a lot of the issues with this game.
Updated to 440.82 still not working without tweaks
No tweaks yet. Still the same issues as before.
tried GE proton versions, throws GPU Driver error
I tried Proton-5.5-GE-1 and Proton-5.4-GE-3, both give the same GPU Driver error saying I don't have the latest drivers but I have 440.82 installed. Tried in both the normal steam as well as the beta. Synaptic says I still have libvulkan1 version 1.1.126 instead of the newer 1.2 version. Not sure why 440.82 didn't have the new version with it. Pressing the play or update button on the error box both just closes the game. Also set "rgl_showAMDStartupWarning 0 rgl_showIntelStartupWarning 0 rgl_showNvidiaStartupWarning 0" in the launcher.cfg with no effect.
updated vulkan, new protons, still not working
Tried reinstalling nvidia drivers, system still repeatedly refused to update vulkan from 1.1.126 so I went to vulkan.lunarg.com to manually grab the sdk and install to update 1.2.135.0. I tried running the game with proton 5.0-6 but just get the silent crash. With Proton-5.6-GE-2 I still get the same "GPU Driver Error" dialog asking me to update nvidia drivers to at least 442.74. Pressing play just silently crashes. Tried adding "%command% +in_terminal 1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +com_skipKeyPressOnLoadScreens 1 +com_skipSignInManager 1", "MANGOHUD=1", and "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1" to the launch options with no effect.
Still not running
Deleted pinned_libs_* from .steam directories as recommended in the github forum as well as any file in the steam directories that had vulkan 1.1 in the name or description and purged apt-get cache to remove the archives of the old vulkan package. Then restarted steam. Proton 5.0-6 still silent crashes. GE Proton still shows driver error and crash. Using Denuvo free exe shows driver error and flashes black screen before immediately crashing.
layer errors reported by steam
Attempted to install on a different partition that had no steam errors before installing. After attempting to install and run the game steam started reporting the same errors as my original attempt. In steam system info under x11/vulkan it shows "wrong ELF class" errors for steamoverlayvulkanlayer.so (listing vulkan version 1.1.119, driver 440.328.0) and libEGL.so.1. Running steam from command line throws a ton of warnings and "Installing breakpad exception handler" lines. Then trying to run the game shows ELF class errors also for gameoverlayrenderer.so. Attempted removing the files listed and restarting steam to redownload the files fresh as well as doing a "steam --reset" both with no change. vulkaninfo shows everything as version 1.2.135 except for NVidia Optimus Layer as vulkan version 1.1.119 and Steam Pipeline Caching Layer and Steam Overlay Layer as vulkan version 1.1.73. Wondering if this is a potential issue with the game not loading.
Updated to proton 5.0-7 still nothing
Tried with no launch options as well as "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libffi.so PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% +in_terminal 1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +com_skipKeyPressOnLoadScreens 1 +com_skipSignInManager 1".
Uninstalled and reinstalled new 1.1, still not working
Uninstalled when the denuvo anti cheat dropped. Installed it again with the new update. Tried Proton 5.0-7: installs, mentions vulkan shaders loading (this is new) and starts to load, id logo pops up and stays open but the game never actually loads. Tried Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF: pops up dialog for wine to install .net files, pops up the old driver error like before, press play to bypass, does same as before. Id logo stays on taskbar but never actually loads the game. Also tried launch options "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command% +in_terminal 1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +com_skipKeyPressOnLoadScreens 1 +com_skipSignInManager 1" with no effect. Still getting overlay.so ELF errors for my x11/vulkan section in steam info.
Updated drivers, kernel, protons, still nothing
Updated to nvidia driver 44.100, tried proton 5.0-9 and Proton-5.11-GE-1-MF, still having all the same issues. ID logo, GPU driver error, stall, crash.
Without all of these launch flags it would partially load but then freeze after a few seconds. "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% +in_terminal 1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +com_skipSignInManager 1"
Pressing the volume buttons on my keyboard brought up the volume overlay and froze the game. Alt+tab freezes game.
Nothing I try in Linux Mint 19.3 or 20 seems to get it to run, it appears to be an issue with libGL and libvulkan1. Had to install a partition of Ubuntu 20 to get it to run. Haven't maxed out video settings yet but runs good at default.
Installs but errors when trying to run.
After installation when trying to play the game I get a black screen and a critical error box saying "Could not initialize the graphics subsystem, probably because the resolution 1920x1080 is not supported for fullscreen display." Choosing "reset options" before trying to play just gives the same error but with 1280x720 resolution.
Installs but won't load.
Installs but shows black screen and errors out when trying to play. Asks to create dump log then crashes a second time and you have to kill the process.
If someone REALLY wants to play it they could probably deal with the choppiness and crackling but it would annoy a typical gamer.
Screen tearing/choppiness when turning around.
It's been a really long time since I first played the game so I'm not sure if I'm missing the cut scenes or not (like other people mentioned).
Works better now
The choppiness is mostly gone now but every now and then it seems to skip a frame or two.
Haven't done that Media Foundation DLL thing yet so the cut screens skip entirely. Sound crackling seems to be mostly gone now as well.
Alt tabbing was sloppy. Sometimes would show the other windows but couldn't physically interact with them. Sometimes it would work ok. Completely random each time I tried.
Like others mentioned, the game would just show as running and immediately crash until I followed these directions: After installation, entered game folder at ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Divinity Original Sin 2 and ran (as suggested in many other posts) "mv ./bin ./bin.bak && ln -s DefEd/bin bin && cd bin && mv ./SupportTool.exe ./SupportTool.bak && ln -s EoCApp.exe SupportTool.exe".
No sound is a non-starter.
Cut scene video sound was perfect. No other sound works in the game though.
In the menu the response to input was sluggish.
When closing the game it autosaves and then locks up, preventing you from taking OS focus with any other programs, forcing you to wait until the OS notices so you can force quit.
Installs and runs fine.
The initial startup of the game was pretty slow but once loaded it runs great at highest settings. I only tested vs bots so far.
This version runs perfectly out of box for me at highest settings. No more problems with leveling characters, missing polygons, or boss kills not registering. I haven't tested multiplayer yet though.
Sometimes the outfit wouldn't load or would take several seconds to a few minutes to fully load, especially with the Shield-Weaver outfit.
A couple spots in the menu seemed to ignore inputs until you hovered over another interactable icon and then tried again. Usually the first icon in the upper left corner for crafting ammunition.
I had one manual save seem to get randomly deleted while repeating attempts at the hunting grounds. Other than that, no problems.
Just some occasional screen tearing or long loading times for fast travel over large areas of the map.
After 180 or so hours of gameplay I think it crashed or locked up the system maybe 3 times.
Many unmissable achievements wouldn't unlock, presumably because they were accomplished during a time period when my internet was disconnected. Repeating the game in new game + while connected to the internet unlocked them when completed again. All but 1 achievement is now unlocked/responding appropriately. The All Acquisition Machines killed acheivement just stubbornly refuses to unlock even after killing hundreds of the appropriate units.
On another partition on my system I tried to install from scratch using the Proton Experimental and hotfix and Proton7.0-6 versions. The vulkan shaders would take a long time to process and then say the game is running but nothing would appear on the screen.
Installs and loads fine. Menus are smooth. In matches it is playable but in levels with a lot of things going on in the background it gets choppy and hard to play (Hall of justice was particularly laggy). Lowering graphics settings just made it worse.
If you can get it to run properly it seems to run ok for single player story and practice mode. I haven't tested multiplayer yet.
After splash screen the game would lock up. Could still alt+tab out though.
Unable to start game fully under certain OS setups.
Under my usual parition in Linux Mint 20.3 it will not fully load. I can get it to install. But it will not load under any proton (default, 8.0-2, 7.0-6, 6.3-8, hotfix) or GE-proton versions (7-35, 8.4). Proton Experimental will occasionally start to load but lock up after the tech splash screen. On a fresh install of Linux Mint 21 with just steam installed and with no VPN the game will install and run fine under Proton Experimental with no tweaks. The initial loading and vulkan shader loading can take 5-10 minutes but the game seems to run fine after that. I have played about 5 hours at this point and haven't noticed any other crashes, graphical, or audio issues so far. PS3 controller works fine although the menus list it as Xbox controller with associated button prompts. I have only tried single player story and practice modes so far.
Won't sync to servers for DLC. Missing textures on character select and fight intro screens. Good performance. Works with ps3 controller. Right at the end of any match (story mode and vs computer mode tested) it either crashes to desktop or locks up and won't give other programs priority on screen so you either have to log out or shut down/restart manually. No tweaks tested yet.
Tutorial runs solid.
Only tried tutorial. Multiplayer quickmatch wouldn't find a match in my area. Only waited for about 15 minutes.
Developers need to patch some things and sort out the server disconnects but it's generally enjoyable.
First startup of the game was listed as 4k but the window was tiny. Had to toggle to fullscreen in the settings to get it to actually maximize.
The game loads slowly. Some choppiness in the main menu.
Sometimes the input would lag for over a minute while selecting skill upgrades. On my first run through the first area it would disconnect from the server when trying to move to the next region. It did this twice. After I restarted both the game and steam and joined a party in multiplayer it progressed to the next region properly. Game will also not close properly. It freezes after clicking to exit and I have to end task the program.
Some lag, occasional server disconnects.
Crash on startup
Tries to install .net every time I try to play it. Just silently fails immediately after install dialog closes. Haven't tested protontricks yet.
Works out of the box
Haven't tried multiplayer yet but story mode works fine.
A little bit of stuttering when in the rainy areas with graphics set to high but otherwise seems to play perfectly.
Text is missing from many menu options and informative tips. Fixed by setting launch options to 'PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%'. After options set it shows text but the font seems to be overly large.
The game seemed to lag when clicking on actions but otherwise seemed smooth.
After restarting a mission for the 4th or 5th time it usually crashes while loading the level.
No cutscenes will load.
After install the game would not load. I set the D3D setting in load options but didn't do anything. Restarting Steam did nothing. But upon restarting my system it worked fine. So I'm not sure if the load options did anything or if it just needed the system reboot. It works now but the cut scenes won't load even after trying that dropbox zip and it crashes after restarting the level sometimes.
The native linux version would install but not run at all. It would just start and close instantly with no errors or explanations as to why. There are many complaints online about it. When forced to install through proton it runs perfectly though. It synced up to my windows saved games as well with no issues.
On Linux Mint 20.3 the game installed but when trying to run it would throw a Unity error of some kind with no text explaining it, then crash back to steam. On Linux Mint 21, fresh install with just steam, the game had no option to be installed until I selected a forced proton option. It then installed and ran fine under proton experimental.
used "/nolauncher" in launch options
The install and game play works great. The launch menu after initially playing the game becomes buggy. If you play and quit and then try to play again the launch menu shows up duplicating whatever window was just below it, however hovering over the stardock menu in the taskbar with the mouse shows the proper graphics in the thumbnail photo. The menu still responds to mouse clicks properly, you just have to figure out where the actual start button is. So I bypassed it by setting the launch option "/nolauncher" to go right into the game. Seems to work fine so far.
Saving a game on at least one of the games was very slow.
The VGA version of Space Quest 1 doesn't load.
Tested running all games. Every one but the VGA version of Space Quest 1 loaded fine. Didn't play for more than a minute or two of each.
Violent pixel flickering in the lower right third of the screen. Seemed to bleed through from the layer behind. (the menu screen with the detective's desk would flicker through the overlaid computer monitor settings screen)
The native linux version had the pixel flickering issue. I had played the demo first (which worked perfectly), then purchased and installed the full version. I think it overwrote the demo's files. Then the flickering appeared upon first loading of the full version. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, steam restarts, system restarts, validating game files. Still flickering. So I uninstalled and then forced installation with Proton 6.3-4. It works perfectly now but it lost all my game progress.
Previous proton versions would run but with severe fps issues. This one runs perfect with no tweaks.
Very minor issues out of the box without tinkering. Plays fine.
The end of sentences seems to cut off sometimes. Very minor crackling here and there.
When a closeup dialog cinematography thing pops up the bottom of the screen tears/drags/ghosts until the full screen is rendered then works fine.
Mouse sensitivity seems really high. Had to turn it down a bit or I couldn't get the cursor to stay over the enemies.
Mostly just the screen tearing on dialogs but they also end very abruptly and go to the load screen for the next section of the quest/whatnot. I wonder if it's just due to the age of the game on newer hardware (SSD).
Some minor issues but still playable.
Alt+tab will show the OS programs but trying to select anything just leaves the game overlaid on top of everything else. Have to exit the game to return to normal.
Sometimes when starting the game the cursor will not show up on the menu screen. No keys will work except the enter button and shift. Pressing and holding the shift key returns the cursor to the screen. Once you load a save file it works fine.
After playing for a bit longer I found some more issues I wanted to add to my report. Mainly the alt+tab problem and the disappearing cursor on the menu screen.
Installs fine, plays fine, but unstable as hell.
If set to full screen alt-tab wouldn't show anything but the game screen.
Autosaves wouldn't always save (when game crashes)
Crashes and locks up constantly. Not sure if from autosaving or cutscene triggers or regions changing on the map or what. Was running fine until I hit the first tavern. Locks up in inventory when putting gear into quickslots.
People hovering/walking over tables. Constant crashes/lockups.
I tried fullscreen, windowed borderless, vsync on and off, hairworks on and off, maxed framerate and unlimited... each change seemed to make it work for a little bit but then just crashes later. It's basically unplayable for more than 10 minutes until I can figure out how to stop it from crashing/locking up.
The intro videos were a little choppy.
After the new update, the new launcher loaded fine from my previous settings but when selecting directx12 it just went to a black screen and then crashed. When reloading the launcher screen was black and could not be interacted with. I switched to experimental with the same results. I saw a recommendation for proton hotfix with similar results. I restarted steam and then the launcher worked as usual. Selecting directx11 loaded the game properly.
My hair settings were already set to off so I have no data for that issue. Compared to the first time I tried playing before the new high def update it is way more stable now. I've only gotten to the first tavern on this playthrough and have had no crashes once the initial launch was working. Before the update it would crash constantly in that first town. I have no launch options set.
