Tested with the oldest hardware I have and encountered no issues. I only needed to set a launch option to play without DXVK in order to get the game to launch. After that no further tweaks were required.
The native version of the game would not launch, however the game launched fine on the latest official version of Proton (5.0-8). Only had to set this launch option "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" to get the game to run.
No tinkering to get the Singleplayer to work
The game launched fine with Proton version 4.11-13 on my system. I did also try on Proton 5.0-6, as well as a modified version of Proton (4.21-GE-1), but the game did not launch at all.
The Singleplayer campaign runs nicely at 2560x1440@144Hz. I also managed to get a nice fast run in during the first training section of the campaign, no major input lag or severe frame drops.
As for the Multiplayer portion of the game, I'm sure it's possible to get it to work with a few tweaks, but it did not work out of the box for me with Steam Play. This however looks to be purely related to PunkBuster as the DirectX runtime did seem to install all the components correcting during the initial setup. PunkBuster fails out when it tries to download the latest version, this could also very well just be PunkBuster and not a failure of Proton. The error message that appears is in regards to not being able to download the latest version, "The requested URL returned error: 404". This of course means that when you try to launch the multiplayer portion of the game you will see the following error, "Unable to initialize Punkbuster. Punkbuster is disabled". Local / LAN play will probably still work fine, but I have not tested this out yet.
Does not launch
Tried with different versions of Proton (Including forked versions) as well as some Launch Options that usually work, no success.
Does Not Launch
Tried with all the currently available official versions of Proton (3.7-8 to 5.0-9) and then some of GE's forked versions of Proton, also tried setting some launch options in both instances, however the game did not launch.
Did not work out of the box with Steam Play
The game did not launch with these specific version of Proton: [5.0-7], [4.11-13], [4.2-9], [3.16-9], [3.7-8]
As well as on this forked version of Proton: [4.21-GE-1]
Would not let me past the registration code phase
The game did not work out of the box, only after setting some launch options and applying the tweak others have tried (Copying the "Bin64" folder to the Crysis directory from the Crysis Warhead directory, and then renaming the folder to "Bin32"), the game would then prompt me to enter my registration key. However after inputting the code from Steam it would not proceed any further and just continuously loops.
The game launches successfully after some minor tweaks, however the performance leaves something to be desired.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Mouse movement did not feel responsive.
FPS was lower than expected.
Did not run into the same issues compared to trying to get the original Crysis game to launch. Just had to add a launch option and the game worked from there.
The performance was slightly less than what I would have expected to receive on a native Windows install. Various graphical tweaks did not improve the performance situation significantly either.
It appears like further tweaking is required to get the game to run at a satisfactory level, or just faster hardware to compensate for the compatibility layer required to get the game running on Linux.
Did not work out of the box or with some minor tweaks
The game errors out on launch, even with different versions of the official Proton and GE's forked version of Proton.
Error: Unexpected error occured: RenderOptions_IsSoftwareRenderingForcedForProcessassembly:type:unknown type>member:(null)
Tried with various launch options but have had no success.
Performance was never amazing for this game natively so I suspect that it may not be much better through Proton anyway.
The game launches fine but will not allow you to actually play due to an anti-cheat error
Error: "EAC client cannot be instantiated."
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Had to set some launch options to get the game to run without DXVK, after doing so the game loaded fine and I did not encountered any issues whatsoever whilst playing.
Did not have to tinker, EVE Online works well with Proton 4.2-9.
It takes slightly longer to get into EVE Online when loading the game from the EVE launcher, compared to a Windows installation running on the exact same hardware. However, the game does work well with Proton 4.2-9 and appears to be completely playable as it provides great performance.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
The game did not launch out of the box, so I had to set some launch options to get the game to work. After doing so it ran well on the latest official version of Proton (5.0-9). There were some very minor stutters which occurred quite rarely after certain in game interactions. It was nothing game breaking though and minor stutters are known to occur with Proton in other games well.
Note: At this point there is only a playable demo of the game until the full version is released. I would consider the demo totally playable and hopefully the full version of the game runs this well also.
Unable to launch Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Under the Steam Play compatibility tool tried launching Halo: The Master Chief Collection with a few different versions of Proton.
Proton 5.0-6. Game did not launch. Error message: "Fatal error!"
Proton 4.11-13. Game did not launch. Error message: "Fatal error!"
Proton 4.2-9. Game did not launch. Error message: "DX11 feature level 10.0 is required to run the engine."
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
For whatever reason the native version of the game would not launch. Have not looked into why the native version did not launch yet, but at least playing the game through Proton worked great. If you have any issues with the native version, try using Proton, its completely playable.
Game does not launch at all
Does not work out of the box and tired with all the different versions Proton:
[5.0-7], [4.11-13], [4.2-9], [3.16-9], [3.7-8].
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Was able to load the game after setting some Launch Options and downgrading to an older game version. Whilst the game appears to run fine on the older versions I cannot recommend this as a solution as many features and patches are missing on the older versions (To be expected). For some reason that game just doesn't load past the initial options window on the newer versions (0.97 or higher).
I would recommend this only as a last resort if you really want to play the game but it doesn't work on a newer version for you. To enable older game versions:
Kenshi > Properties > Betas > Select the beta you would like to opt into
The game launched after some tweaks but the FPS is still too low to recommend this as a playable experience
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Low FPS
The game did not launch out of the box but with some launch options tweaks I was able to get the game to load. The FPS is extremely low that it renders the game essentially unplayable. This computer meets the system requirements, however, I did still try lowering all the video settings to test, but even then the FPS barely increased. Did not experience these performance issue on a native Windows installation. It appears more significant tweaks will be required to get this game in a playable state on this system.
Minor tweaks to get it to launch. The game then runs smoothly with a few minor stutters here and there.
Launch option used: PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% -windowed
Problems with black screen and artifacting in fullscreen.
Graphical issues in fullscreen.
Minor stuttering.
Had to tweak the game slightly to get it in playable state, mainly since fullscreen mode wouldn't work out of the box. The game ran very smoothly for the most part. but there were some minor stutters here and there.
You may be able to remove the stuttering if you try with different versions of Proton as performance can vary quite a bit between them.
Left 4 Dead 2 runs natively and has extra maps so will be the better option if you do happen to own that as well.
Game does not launch
Tried launching the game with these versions of Proton: [5.0-7], [4.11-13], [4.2-9], [3.16-9], [3.7-8].
With the newer versions of Proton the game does not launch at all, and with the older versions of Proton a DX11 error is displayed. Also tried setting various launch options but still no success.
It appears some tinkering might be required in order to get this game to work.
Requires tweaking to get the game to launch and even then the game is unplayable due to low FPS
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF
Lots of missing / broken textures.
Changing between window and fullscreen mode wasn't perfect.
Input lag was mainly a result of the poor FPS.
Really low FPS given the game can run smoothly on the same hardware with Windows 10.
Managed to get the game to load with some launch flags as well using a forked version of Proton. The FPS drops and input lag are way too extreme that it renders the game unplayable. I tested on the same system running Windows 10 and it can run smoothly after modifying some graphical settings. Considerable tweaking will be required to get the game to run optimally on this system. You may have better luck if you have newer hardware and spend a bit of time tweaking.
Does not launch
Tried launching with these official versions of Proton:
[5.0-7], [4.11-13], [4.2-9], [3.16-9], [3.7-8].
Then tried launching with these forked versions of GloriousEggroll's Proton:
[5.8-GE-2-MF], [5.8-GE-1-MF], [5.6-GE-2], [5.6-GE-1], [5.5-GE-1], [5.4-GE-3], [5.4-GE-2].
In all instances the game would not load.
Does not launch
Tried with the currently available official versions of Proton (3.7-8 to 5.0-9) and then some of GE's forked versions of Proton, also tried setting some launch options in both instances but the game does not launch.
Works with Proton 4.11 and 4.2 however there is no audio
No audio
Out of the box the game did not launch with Proton 5.0-7. The game was able to launch though using Proton 4.11-13 and 4.2-9, however there is no audio.
When changing or increasing the games resolution there is graphical degradation and artifacting once the new settings are applied. After applying the new resolution you will need to restart the game to remove the graphical issues.
You can have an enjoyable gaming experience if the game audio works for you.
Some minor graphical issues, however lowering the quality seems to help clear this up.
Unexpectedly freezes and does not recover. Have to kill the running process to get back to the desktop environment.
For the most part it runs quite nicely, however the stability could be improved upon which would lead to a very playable experience.
Runs fine with Proton 4.11-13
It's stated that there is a native Linux version of the game but it did not launch. Have not really had issues launching native Linux games before, but forcing the game to run through Proton worked in this instance. I used Proton 4.11-13 and the game ran well. It's a twitchy game that relies on timing and I did not experience any input issues that would affect gameplay.
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
GE's forked version of Proton (Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF)
No audio
Mouse input delay
Very low FPS
Running the game Natively spits out this error: "Cannot find a compatible Vulkan device or driver. Try updating your video driver to a more recent version and make sure your video card supports Vulkan".
Running the game using the latest official version of Proton through Steam seems to work briefly, and then the game gets stuck on a blank screen. However, when using GE's forked version of Proton the game loaded all the way through to the menu, and then into the game. Although the performance was not great, and there was no audio. No improvement to the FPS when lowering the video settings either.
Currently the game is released as a pre-alpha demo, hopefully the developers improve the Linux support going forward.
Does not launch due to a runtime error
Runtime Error: R6016 - not enough space for thread data
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Only tested on the latest official release of Proton, but the game is totally playable on Linux with Proton.
GE's forked version of Proton seems to run the game better than the official Proton release.
Proton-5.6-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.6-GE-2
Mouse movement felt a little delayed.
Performance was slower than running the game natively.
Had to set launch options and use GE's forked version of Proton to get to running without issues. Performance was not as good as running the game natively, but with some tweaks you can get the game running at a fairly playable level.
Game crashes whilst playing
Was able to get the game to launch after setting some launch options, however after the character selection the game crashes. Will need to do some further testing.
