Works Well, even with Normal Proton.
The game is playable on Mouse/Keyboard, but it's highly recommended to use a Controller. I haven't tested it on controller, but so far the game works as it does on Windows. I haven't taken time enough to progress to the first possible Search Point, which allows actual movement.
Classic JRPG, Works Well
It should be mentioned, the opening movie (the one showing the photo frame) works fine on my system, no need to get around or skip it. This might be because I have installed non-free and third-party video and audio codecs however, such as h264 and whatnot.
After the Logos, game hung infinitely. (Using GTX 1060 not Intel)
Even though my system says it's using Intel, it's actually using the GTX 1060.
Works well, make sure the right GPU is selected.
Switch to High Precision Mode if your mouse feels slow.
Despite my previous test saying I was using the GTX 1060, I apparently wasn't. Make sure __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia Are in your ~/.bashrc (on their own separate lines) if you're using a laptop with both nvidia and an integrated GPU.
Use an Xbox-Type controller, Keyboard and Mouse are Not Recommended
DualSense Controller doesn't work with native hid-playstation drivers (even after using modprobe.) Only the touchpad works, and only moves the mouse.
No button icon prompts for Keyboard and Mouse, and no native detection of a PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller is a bit upsetting.
Old School Action MMORPG. Works Well with Propietary Drivers
MMORPG, no Local/Offline Mode.
The Launcher may become unresponsive, this is likely due to layering issues. click the top right glitchy icons, and it should respond again. When switching workspaces, this game will go to the back of the desktop workspace, and may take a few alt-tabs to get back into the game.
Installs, Cannot Start Game
Shows a loading dialogue for a second, with a red box and a white exclamation point on the game's logo with a loading bar underneath. Then it tries to start the process, but fails. Confirmed because cloud sync happens after it fails.
Unity Loading Box Appears, Nothing Else, Game Closes

Game Starts, Gives an Error before Main Menu
Game Finally Opens/Starts (But NOT to the main menu) after switching to "Umu Latest" via protonup-qt on Arch Linux's latest kernel. But the game gives the error "Failed to Initialize Application" as shown in https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/j7mmc6jqrd7.png
Game Starts, No Main Menu
Using proton_tkg_experimental.bleeding.edge.9.0.106013.20240704, the game starts, but gives Failed to Initialize: https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/j7mmc6jqrd7.png
Doesn't work out of the box on most PC Linux systems
Mouse input doesn't work.
Sometimes stutters will occur, very rarely.
Requires vulkan-enabled propietary drivers such as vulkan-radeon and nvidia. See this page for Nvidia installation: https://github.com/NoXPhasma/protondb_faq/wiki/Graphics-driver-installation#Nvidia
Works well out of the box with propietary drivers
Sometimes audio will corrupt briefly.
Borderless Window Option will just maximize the window automatically if set to your native resolution.
Settings Dialogue from the launcher may take several clicks, causing multiple settings windows to appear. Click it once and wait for it to appear. Changing tabs may take multiple clicks.
No Offline Mode, MMORPG
Works out of the box on Linux, without fullscreen.
Tearing, use the following option:
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
The launch options below (did not use both at once, each separately on different runs.)
DXVK_CONFIG="dxgi.syncInterval=1"
DXVK_CONFIG="dxgi.tearFree=True"
did nothing, and tearing still occured.
After hitting Alt+Enter to switch to fullscreen, game became unresponsive, and required me to switch to another workspace/virtual desktop, as it wouldn't allow alt-tabbing/etc.
Not very playable on this system due to heavy artifacts and FPS Lag.
Heavy Corruption, Crackling and random glitchy sounds. Using Pipewire.
Heavy / Random Artifacts and missing textures on fog/etc. Texture Checkerboarding.
High FPS Lag even in the initial cut-scene.
Before the game boots, an error dialogue appears stating there is no correct driver installed, and that the game cannot start. The game starts anyway.
Wait for patches. Might be a year or two.
Works Natively. See Controller Issue.
Game will refuse to re-recognize controllers that disconnect mid-gameplay, and the game must be restarted if your controller disconnects.
No GameGuard Error. Crashes on Loading Screen
Cannot get to the character select / initial menus. Crashes on the first loading screen.
No GameGuard Error. Crashes on Loading Screen
Cannot get to the character select / initial menus. Crashes on the first loading screen.
Enemies may not be rendered correctly, and show as glitchy squares/etc.
Loading may hang sometimes.
Requires GE Proton. Steam's version will not allow the launcher to download patches, and the game will crash before getting to server select as it doesn't know how to handle incorrect versions after launching the game, as the launcher is meant to not allow you to launch the game without patches.
Multiplayer crashed the moment I attempted to do the initial "Simulation" Mission after the prologue/tutorial.
Stuttering when loading cut-scenes and assets. No Shader pre-compiling.
Requires optimization by the developer, would be good if it pre-compiled shaders.
Old Click-To-Move and Target MMORPG, Works Well
If you experience any windows that give a blank white box in-game it's likely a tutorial dialogue or the cash shop/etc. These are meant to load web pages in-game. If they don't load, try again later. This is actually an issue on Windows too, so it's not Linux-specific.
Works Well, Good CRPG
Audio will very, very rarely corrupt.
Defaults to Vulkan Rendering Engine. It's recommended you keep it on Vulkan to avoid crashing. Requires Propietary Drivers as per usual.
Tried to run, Update Manager Failed
Immediately closed the game before it could even run, the "Update Manager" failed, and asked me to send a report to Funcom.
See the last few tests/reports for information.
See winetricks tweaks.
Slower response time than native Linux. Increase mouse speed in-game.
Requires some polish still, game can stutter and hitch enough to hinder gameplay randomly. Menus can become unresponsive.
Occlusion is Very Aggressive in this game to help deal with the high fidelity. So it can seem like there are missing textures.
Stutters and Network Hitches/Rubberbanding
Game can take up to 2-3 minutes to fully stop after exiting. During this time, the Desktop Environment cannot be interacted with using the Mouse. The only indication is the mouse cursor changes from First Descendant style to System style when the game successfully stops.
Besides an Audio Issue, the game is exactly like it is on Windows.
When certain characters spoke too high in volume, they could cause a sound corruption.
Like with most games, you should be using the propietary/non-free drivers.
Doesn't Run after selecting 64-bit mode
Opens a 720p window that is black, and immediately closes. No error dialogues or any errors shown visibly.
Medium Amount of Stuttering, otherwise same as Windows
Medium Stuttering when moving the camera around and when cut-scenes load assets.
Has native support for Linux Kernel DualSense without SteamInput. Change Controller Buttons to Type 1 in the options if using a DualSense Controller.
