Works Well, even with Normal Proton.
The game is playable on Mouse/Keyboard, but it's highly recommended to use a Controller. I haven't tested it on controller, but so far the game works as it does on Windows. I haven't taken time enough to progress to the first possible Search Point, which allows actual movement.

No audio on startup movies
Switching to the newest Proton-6.21-GE-2 release makes playing Agarest Zero now actually possible. Had no issue with movies, audio or graphical glitches so far. No need to tinker with protontricks anymore.
Movies are borked but I believe the game actually runs.
Looks like none of the movies want to play - Shows what looks like a picture testing image from the 1950s (squares of different colours). I was able to click through to the main menu and choose to start a new game. Sprites load in fine, sound seems fine, dialogue works as expected.
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST
Videos play poorly, including the main menu which is some sort of video, I think this can probably be fixed by installing a codec pack as I did this on Agarest War and it works much better, videos play well.
Because of resolution issues I emulated a desktop so it could play in a window.
Controller works intermittently, keyboard/mouse seems best, although a bit wonky. Still, consistency is better than intermittent weirdness.

Seems to have the same issues as the other Agarest games (hangs on startup)

Causes Wine/Proton to stop responding at start-up sometimes. Has identical issues to Agarest: Generations of War regarding missing codecs and inability to play the game because it crashes at start-up.
