Works out of the box.
I was hesitant to get this game since there were no other ProtonDB reviews but decided to go ahead and get it and test it out. I am not disappointed, it works great! Didn't see any slowness!
Tried installing
Open GL installed, tried some other common Window DLLs (basically I decided to throw a few things and see which one will stick). In the end, I still had to set the graphics to low despite having a 3050, I should be able to run this with ultra settings, but I have no choice but to run this with low.
FPS drop
Have to set the game's graphics settings to low despite the fact that my computer exceeds the maximum system requirements for the game.
So long as the games graphics are set to low, this game works fine. It won't matter the hardware. Though it is a huge disappointment that I can't run the graphics higher than low, makes it a bit of a bust but, the game overall isn't bad and has it's own hiccups.
Game worked like it would on Windows without messing with anything.
Worked great out of the box
Definitely works the way you'd think it should work on Windows. Played it on Linux Mint, it worked beautifully.
Tried throwing everything at it, nothing worked. Tried from oldest to newest proton. Tried Protontricks. This game just wasn't launching.
Launcher started, game did not.
If I had friends to play this game with, it would be worth tinkering with. I don't have friends to play it with, it's not worth tinkering with it.
Run game with Proton Experimental and it works great out of the box. Don't bother using the linux version if it gives you issues.
Native version of the game had some windowing issue that caused problems with not recognizing the cursor properly. Switched to Proton Experimental and it works just fine that way.
The native version didn't want to resize the window correctly. Had to switch to experimental Proton to get the game working.
Native version of the game does not act stable. Do not run this game native if you are using Linux Mint.
Native version of the game is buggy. Proton is the way to go with this game if you experience issues with the native linux version.
The game runs great but it doesn't play well natively on my system which is a little bit of a bummer. I still enjoy the game in proton experimental so if you have issues with the native version more than likely switching to proton to play it will make it work just fine.
Borked and unplayable, won't even get past the loading screen.
I tried installing the protontricks for dotnet40, I tried several different versions of Proton GE, I tried switching from recommended to Expirmental. I tried using gamemoderun %command%. Nothing, and I mean nothing, worked.
Will not load unless you force experimental, otherwise it hangs at loading screen.
Gotta force experimental to make the game work, otherwise it hangs at the loading screen.
Apparently my computer hates this game.
Nothing worked.
I tried native, and it caused an issue while I was playing where it was stuttering so bad that the audio was echoing. I tried installing Proton GE, I tried so many different things. Using any form of Proton caused the game to outright crash when I tried playing it. Using Native the game launched, it would go into the game, but it stuttered so bad I couldn't play it at all.
I was able to play this on my old build of my system JUST FINE. I used the same Operating system! I do a new computer build and now it's not even working. This really sucks, I was hoping I could play this tonight and it doesn't even work on my computer.
Works out of the box without an issue.
Needed to put it on the lowest graphics settings so the game didn't trip on itself. Otherwise the game works just fine.
I noticed crackling when the FPS drops.
The screen sometimes jitters - FPS drops occasionally
Had to change the settings from 'Ultra' down to Low. The game chugs on itself. According to my friend who has similar specs as I do, this is a problem with Windows as well so probably not the actual OS itself being a problem.
You have to switch it over to experimental for it to want to launch otherwise it hangs. That kind of sucks tbh.
I don't mind playing it with the mouse issue, but my mouse needing to be above the buttons would drive most gamers mad.
Have to set graphics down to low to play.
I have to move my mouse a little above the actual buttons to get it to work correctly. other than that, it's playable... mostly.
It works, but I would recommend playing a different game that is more compatible with Linux than this if you're wanting to play a colony survival game. It's very jenky on how it plays, and after doing some other recommended tinkers from previous reports, this game still doesn't want to work nicely. I had to exit out of my game because I forgot how to open up some windows that the game has. I had accidentally exited a window due to the mouse issue I was having.
Other than the issue with Voice recognition, it works great. No issues outside of voice recogniton.
Voice recognition is not a thing on Linux with Phasmophobia. Do not use a cursed objects that require your voice like the Ouija board. Even without voice recognition working, the game will still recognize your mic working. This can be a problem with the Ouija board as you MUST say goodbye in order to NOT instigate a cursed hunt.
Do NOT use this item in the game. Other than this small issue, the game works splendidly.
Mentioned above, VOICE RECOGNITION DOES NOT WORK WITH THIS GAME.
Rumor has it that the devs are looking into a way to fix the issue with voice recognition so this might not be a problem in the future.
Tried 3 different versions of Proton and it would not work.
gamemoderun %command%
Tried 3 different versions of Proton, it did not work.
I tried Proton 7.0.6, I tried experimental, I tried Proton GE 8.16
Nothing would launch the game.
With further looking into on ProtonDB here I have come to the conclusion that whatever is wrong with launching this game has something to do with Debian Base OS, or specifically Ubuntu since my version of Linux Mint is Ubuntu base and the problem OSes that can't launch this game are at the very least Debian, if not Ubuntu base.
This makes me upset because I haven't even gotten to try the game.
Game works right out of the box. Haven't seen any issues with the game.
The game works well on Linux Mint. No issues spotted.
Have to do some tinkering to get it to work. It doesn't play online well with public servers due to the EAC.
__GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATION=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 gamemoderun %command%
Have to change launch options to get this to run smoothly
Framerate drops
Using Gamemode and the optimization as well as wine full screen gets rid of the slowness... Running it out of the box with an RTX 3050, it was slow as heck.
EAC still an issue, had to configure my own server to not deal with EAC
EAC - Had to configure my personal server to not be secure.
EAC is the major issue with this game. Everything else is okay if you're willing to tinker (and let's face it, 9 out of 10 times if you're using linux, chances are you are willing to tinker). In order to get the best out of your graphics card you have to change some configurations to get the game to play nice.
I would not recommend this game to someone who is wet behind the ears when it comes to Linux and doesn't want to learn how to make your computer behave.
For those who enjoy tinkering and finding ways to get your computer to do what you want, this game is just fine for that and it is not only feasible but possible to get this game playing really well.
It works well, it plays well, and it's overall one of the best stories I've played.
The frame drops are an issue if you don't have experience googling things and have the bravery to try tinkering.
FeralInteractive/GameMode
Game acted laggy
FPS drop
Frame drop
Gamemode is almost a must to get this running pretty. Definitely would recommend getting it to run this game without too many frame drops. https://github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode
gamemoderun %command%
PROTON_NO_D3D10=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
Frame Rate Drops are very nasty
With the frame drops my mouse would slow down as well
FPS Drops before switching to GE
Follow the Proton GE instructions given by others here on ProtonDB and you should be fine. The Frame Drops suck and if you want to fix that, this should be good.
The game installs, but it wants to install Microsoft C++ and then it won't run after that.
Install Vistual C++ 2016-2019 to get running. Works nicely after using proton tricks.
If you have the same bug I have with audio options tab, avoid it. The game runs just fine without configuring it.
Under options, clicking Audio makes the game crash. Tried everything under the sun I could throw at it to fix this. Will not fix. Game crashes trying to configure audio. Can't even open the audio tab.
If you run into the same bug I have with the audio options, make sure that if the volume is too loud you use your native sound options to lower the volume. That is the only suggestion I can give you. I tried ProtonGE from the other reports on here and the version, I tried changing the launcher options, etc. Nothing worked to fix that glaring bug. Audio crackles if you don't use the right NVidia driver. All in all, I don't know what I can really say. Out of the box without changing anything the game runs fine, though audio does crackle sometimes. Trying to change audio options made my game crash every time. I don't know if there is anything I can do outside of following the steps I found here on ProtonDB to fix that issue.
