Game works as intended. Online multiplayer didn't work because .NET framework isn't installed, could be fixed with protontricks
borderless window broke after alt-tabbing, fullscreen works just fine
used Protontricks to install tons of needed utilities
I had to manually map my controller
Game does not work unless some major tinkering is performed. I used this guide: https://gist.github.com/ANBAL534/8057b5200ace9bdd98795b627e550ba0 to help me
Multiplayer is annoying, you need to install tons of mods manually
AC apprears to not work for now. Bummer :(
Followed what appears to be the most up-to-date guide on getting AC to work. No dice.
I'll be skipping this game until someone comes up with a better guide that works for more people.
Exporting works, everything except the text box issue works fine
Certain text boxes wouldn't let me delete characters in them.
ran slightly slower than on windows
Unfortunately the newest major update seems to have broken proton compatibility.
Wasn't able to enter the car or engine editor without the game locking up :(
as long as walking mode isn't used, this game works well
Was difficult to enter and leave fullscreen, sometimes had unexpected frame drops when going in fullscreen
slightly less fps than on windows
Walking mode causes a crash
Trouble going in to fullscreen after alt+tab, unexplained FPS drop as well
Slightly lower FPS than Windows
Frequently crashed on Proton 6.3-8, crashes less with Proton Experimental but still crashes always in Walking Mode
Newest update appears to have borked a few things, might be fixed soon?
Newest update appears to have some graphics changes that break multiple textures/shaders. Changing settings appears to have no effect.
Refused to go in "Fullscreen", "Borderless" works however.
Ran at 60 with previous update (0.23), now runs like garbage, rarely see 50 FPS
There's a native version of the game but it's in alpha and also has significant bugs
Laggy audio probably due to performance issues
Missing PBR textures unless you apply a patch (look for SnoutBug on github)
Frame drops (even more than usual) when entering fullscreen
massive frame drops given my hardware, I see as low as 5fps sometimes
Game crashes often
Not with my hardware specs, which meets minimum on the steam store
Vulkan renderer caused flickering
Unplayable on my system. Seems 32gb or higher of RAM is required now.
System runs out of RAM at 16gb while playing beam
DRI_PRIME=1 %command%
DRI_PRIME=1 to use the dGPU on my Framework 16
Absolutely nothing I tried worked. Couldn't get the game to run for the life of me.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command% -nointro
Tried Winecfg, Proton GE, Older Proton versions, etc. Nothing works
Game ran perfectly on Proton 3.16.9. I've heard bad things about running this game on Proton 3.7 or above however.
Native verison does not work, launches to a black screen and crashes immediately. Using Proton 6.3.7 it will not launch at all
Game only worked when ran (natively) with -nojoy launch flag. Game would not open otherwise.
Set "Raw input", fixed everything
Game was slightly stuttery, also mouse input had issues until set to "raw input"
Crashed once.
Does not launch (native)
Tried "Steam Linux Runtime" compatibility, no luck there, also tried -nojoy launch flag
With my hardware specs (6-7 year old mid-range pc), it will not be an enjoyable experience.
-sdlaudiodriver -pipewire
Until using the -sdlaudiodriver and -pipewire launch options, audio would only work if I wasn't connected to any VoIP chat, including steam chat. Otherwise it wouldn't have audio at all.
Aiming down sights creats tons of black artifacts (luckily not appearing in the scope view, so it doesn't impact gameplay much). Also I experienced some broken textures.
I don't know if this is just the game's performance in general, but it is MUCH worse than CS:GO. I was getting 180-250 fps on high settings in CS:GO but I'm barely managing 50 in CS2
Low FPS significantly impacts multiplayer gameplay.
I hope Valve introduces either lower settings than the "low" preset, or optimizes the game better.
The game only works after verifying game files EVERY TIME I try to launch. Different versions of proton did not help.
Used multiple versions of proton, GE and Experimental
Extremely annoying to play because of the issue listed above
Enjoyable experience overall. Installed and ran no problem.
Controller kept registering as not connected, though it may be an issue with my controller.
Slightly lower frames than Windows, nothing bad
Running natively the game will not start at all, however proton works flawlessly
i don't know why this game stopped working i liked playing it :(
Excellent! Love this game already and it's just as good on Linux.
Save game pictures don't load, instead the picture is this strange colorful glitchy looking artifact.
Photo issue mentioned above
Crashed a few times, nothing unplayable
Game installed & ran completely normally. Workshop worked and downloaded content as well.
Had some minor issues but otherwise had an enjoyable gaming experience.
After alt+tab window would occasionally be black, was fixed by moving window to a different workspace and back again.
Mouse wasn't bound to anything for some reason on first startup? Quick trip to controller bind settings fixed it after that (changed "Keyboard" to "Mouse + Keyboard")
Slight frame drops around starports and other players, nothing terrible (5-15 fps dropped)
It would start up and the shader compilation would succeed, and then the planet generation step would crash the game. Oh well.
WINE_USE_D3D11=1 %command%
Game ran as expected on high settings. No performance hit as far as i can see.
Experienced minor input lag, nothing else to say really
Runs better than native! Nothing to add to that...
Significant input lag was experienced with VSync on, turning it off fixes this
Game did not work unless using "Steam Linux Runtime" compatibility
I'll explain - Native linux support on default - highest graphics presets caused grass + water to become neon... Proton compatibility fixed the issue but caused a performance hit.
Game showed the splash screen for approx. 1 second before crashing. Tried proton vers. 5.0-9 -> 4.2-9 to no avail.
too bad it didn't run I really wanted to use this on linux :(
Game requires multiple tweaks to get working, and it's not exactly an enjoyable experience

I used the SpaceEngineersLinuxPatches jar script from GitHub: https://github.com/Linux74656/SpaceEngineersLinuxPatches after the game initially wouldn't launch with just proton. It worked but there were some bugs
Audio was laggy and cut off
alt-tab kind of worked, i could view other windows but the game still was still controlling the mouse cursor
slight frame drops
every time the game exits, it shows the crash reporter
video in the main menu didn't play
Most menu audio is missing, most everything else works but has crackling (footsteps, tools etc)
Game runs a bit slow. Better than on Proton 8.0 and older
Crashed on world loading occasionally
Didn't try multiplayer yet. It was spotty on older proton versions but i'll make a new report when i get to try it.
Game is not playable on my system. Hard crashes kwin after a few minutes.
Used to work. Will be submitting a bug report to payload
Overall I say this game is playable, but there needs to be an actual linux port .
There were some rare (and brief) graphical bugs
Fullscreen sometimes used the wrong resolution, alt+enter twice fixes it
I have an overkill PC for terraria, and even then it worked so-so on it. Makes sense considering this isn't really a native game, using the original windows executable and all.
Crashed a couple times, also refused to start once
For anyone experiencing no audio, switch your default device to something else, then back. I have had this happen on some other native games too.
Freezes in the jail cell. Can't continue.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
might be an intel gpu issue?
5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Constant frame drops that were not present on Windows was present while using Proton
Unity constantly ran into fatal errors that made it nearly impossible to play with people.
First attempt to run the game natively completely failed, the game did not start at all.
Proton didn't help either, no version i tried to launch worked at all.
If you play Realistic battles EAC simply does not function, and so you can't play RBs in any way.
Heavy artifacts. This is mostly an issue with War Thunder, even the Windows version
I had to map my own controls on first startup.
EAC is the main issue here. It doesn't work properly and so I can only play Arcade battles. Realistic battles require EAC to function.
EAC Sucks. No further comment.
Was working fine before, dunno what changed since then. Gaijin, please fix!
