Lutris to be runing on same proton then beamng
Dlss not working last time i tried.
1$car when?
Ran out of box
not all only seem to be the main menu
Game crashes on launch
Menus and UIs are very laggy compared to on Windows
Occasionally UI buttons would simply become unresponsive, requiring a restart
Unfortunately the newest major update seems to have broken proton compatibility.
Wasn't able to enter the car or engine editor without the game locking up :(
perfomance is noticebly worse for me than on Windows, but not critically and it's fully playable
Mostly the same performance as on windows. No major issues to worry about. Mods works. Proton 9.0-1
In marketing game slows down a bit. Just use a bit of patience.
More Lua errors than normal in Engine Designer. But just reload the engine or reload from save.
Exporting of cars to BeamNG was not tested.
Completely borked
No versions of Proton work, from Proton 7.0.4 to 9 or even experimental or even GE. They're all borked. No window shows up but Steam says its running.
At the moment of my previous report, when I claimed game to get stuck in "launching" I was using older proton version. Also enabling D3D causes visual artifacts, while running the game with proton 8.0-5 without command for D3D seems flawless.
Used CryoUtilities. Unsure if performance is worse without it but generally I would recommend it.
Some smaller text in the game, particularly when adding fixtures to the car, can be difficult to read but a settings adjustment could fix that.
The major updates to Automation multiple times a year means it is difficult to keep up to date on its stability however generally the small development team are very good at keeping the game relatively stable.
Playing with multiple workshop subscriptions are also possible. It just slows down the game's boot up time a bit.
Gets stuck in "launching".
don't start without switching to 7.0-6
Won't Launch. Steam says It is currently playing when it is not.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Ran on Windows with 60 fps Medium, 11 fps with Proton at any setting
Sometimes crashed DE, forcing restart
Likely due to my card requiring opengl instead of vulkan, significant instability and artifacts. Sound worked, menus worked, could technically play but you just get a black screen instead of an engine/car in a room. Using mesa_glthread=true or other launch options made things worse.
In older versions, the game used to crash more. Now that game is on the Unreal Engine it is much more stable. Game also autosaves a lot!
Sometimes audio fails on start up, but can be fixed by restarting again
Better than native
Works without serious issues, including mods
Exporting to BeamNG isn't a simple one click operation, you have to manually move the exported files to the right location, but it works. Raytracing also doesn't seem to do anything
Unable to run raytracing
The game works perfectly out of the box, as long as you aren't interested in it for the BeamNG export feature.
Attempting to export a car to BeamNG drive crashes the game and fails. Only occurs after the latest major update.
BeamNG Exporting fails consistently. Ever since the latest update, I've been unable to successfuly export a car.
As of LCV 4.2, The game works amazingly!
Game runs perfectly fine with my current hardware as of update LCV 4.2, absolutely no issues yet!
Workshop mods for this game now work without having to unpack them into the game's files, not sure about Beam NG exporting yet as I haven't tested that out yet but I'm pretty sure you might still have to link the export folder of Automation's prefix to Beam NG's prefix or just copy/paste the exports.
Crashes when running in DX11 mode
Game works and plays perfectly, even the launcher worked for me.
Mods!!!! Mods DO work perfectly with this game under Linux. Theres is absolutely no need to install any .Net, DirectX or create symlinks to anything.
By default Steam downloads the legacy branch (v4.24), to use mods either a) Download mods marked for the 4.24 legacy version (incompatible mods can cause the launcher to crash) or b) Right click game in Steam > Properties > Betas > Opt in to the V4 Open Alpha to install the current 4.27 version. Most mods will now work (apart from 4.24 mods)
Exporting to beam NG Copy zip file from ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/293760/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/BeamNG.drive/mods
Into ~.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/284160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/BeamNG.drive/0.26/mods
plays as expected as im playing it on windows
fsr sharpness to 1
i did not play with workshop content
Works out of the box
Runs fine
Works perfectly out of the box, but fails to launch on an NTFS drive. Ran perfectly when I moved it to an EXT4 disk.
Runs perfectly fine out ot the box if you use the "No Launcher" option at startup.
Beam.NG Export
If you want to have your cars exported to Beam.NG, you gotta copy your car files from:"/home/$USER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/293760/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/BeamNG.drive/mods"
To:"/home/$USER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/284160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/BeamNG.drive/0.24/mods"
You can automate this process by creating a symlink with the command:
ln -s /home/$USER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/293760/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/BeamNG.drive/mods /home/$USER/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/284160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local\ Settings/Application\ Data/BeamNG.drive/0.24/mods
Note that Beam.NG's version (0.24 atm) might change, also, it can result in a conflict if you already have mods.
Works perfectly. Use GE and choose the no launcher option if you're playing the opt-in alpha
heavy fps drop upon startup in comparision to windows
Only start without the launcher
I so far had no problems
PRO-TIP: For BeamNG export purposes locate Automation Export Folder in: wherever your steam folder is -> /steamapps/compatdata/293760/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/BeamNG.drive/mods/
Game works as well as windows, just don't go into the beta branch and launch with no launcher.
As summary says, when launching the game, make sure you use the "No Launcher" version. The game won't launch if you try to use the Opt-in beta/alpha branch. Exporting cars to BeamNG will require you to manually move the exported cars from the compatdata folder of Automation to the compatdata folder of BeamNG unless you do something to link the two folders together. Mods don't work from what I've noticed.
No Launcher
Game looks like it launches, 5-10 seconds later the game never starts.
Tried installing dotnet452 and setting system version to Windows 7
Steam launches it like usual, but 5-10 seconds later steam shows the play button as if I didn't launch the game yet. Tried playing with and without the launcher and both had the exact same result. Installing dotnet452 and setting system version to Windows 7 did not change anything.
Game did not load
Both launch options did not launch the game. Tried to launch with proton experimental and 6.3-8
Able to start to main menu, but screen is blank gray
I can hear the audio, i can click the menus but i cannot see what i'm doing.
Screen is gray, it gets brighter or darker, just like when you close your eyes and shine a light to it.
I tried Proton 6.8-3, Proton Experimental (9th Jan 2022), and Proton-7.0Rrc3-GE-1
If you're unable to start the game on NTFS and done the mounting & symlink, clean the compatdata folder and restart your pc.
No real problems
It's was hard to find the save location for the cars
The game seems to be slower in photoshoot
I can't export my cars to beamng because wine doesn't save the export file
3D parts unsusable during missing textures
Missing textures or lightning. Some textures got rendered.
Only starts with directx support or PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 prefix.
some lag with adjustments mostly with configuring the suspension
Game instantly crashes when exporting to beamng even with it installed fully
