Game works perfect if you run without BattleEye, which is borked. However, since many servers do not require BattleEye, the game itself I consider Platinum since it's stable and has no issues.
No longer working flawlessly. Update to proton must have bugged it. Tried proton versions 4.11-6, 4.2-9, 3.16-9, and 3.7-8. Additionally, removed myself from Steam Beta and tried wined3d.
Used (WINEPREFIX="steamapps/compatdata/8170/pfx" winecfg) and set the compatibility to Windows XP, yet still launches with just a black screen and hangs. Game is currently unplayable.
Attempted to use PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
, as well as PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
; looked to see if there was potentially a beta that would help, but to no avail. Game does launch, however it just launches to a blackscreen and I have to SIGTERM the PID. I believe this is actually an issue with the game, and not proton- being I was unable to get the game to work in Windows.
One winecfg, must add bfp.exe and battlestationspacific.exe to WinXP. From there, you should receive a black screen. This is an issue for people on windows too, and this is no longer an issue with Proton... sort of. Proton should at least be able to replicate the black screen. Though, a fix to get this to continue to work is the following: " Make sure you have this installed

Launches, but being it's dependent on EAC to run the game; borked until EAC fix
Game runs well, however menu is very slow and in addition, sound does not work post first cutscene. I have tried adding xact via protontricks (on 0bs1d1an overlay), and added xaudio2_7 with winecfg, but it still continues to not play audio post first cutscene. Thus, while it is able to run, it is with issue on the audio (and doesn't even display subtitles post cut scene).
Update to my last report: It is necessary to add WinXP compatibility through the winecfg menu (WINEPREFIX="/steamapps/compatdata/298110/pfx" winecfg), which will fix sound, however the game now crashes in either second cutscene where they are having a meal, or post second cut scene where you are searching around. I disabled d3d11 and enabled wine d3d11 via the launch options with: "PROTON_VARIABLE=1 PROTON_NO_D3D11 PROTON_VARIABLE=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D", however crashing persists.
Cannot find UPlay which is required to launch the game. I verfied files, and still does not work.
I didn't get the audio to work nor the multiplayer, so either way the experience really isn't there
Have tried both:
protontricks 962130 -q dotnet472
and
protontricks 962130 win7
Both are able to bring sound in the game, and not cause it to crash.
However, the sound quits playing after about 15 seconds of in game actual play. and didn't allow me to sign in to Xbox Live after which is required for multiplayer.
I believe we require to wait for the next GE/Nilla Proton version to be released and hope it fixes some stuff for this game
Also, some minor performance issues
Crashes in terms of Audio and multiplayer
The only issue is the frame loss on any quality setting. This is for Halo CE and Halo Reach so far.
Has small frame loss issues on modern hardware, but probably because it is single thread dependent? Though DXVK should correct that issue.
Have not tested with a controller, multiplayer, or any other game besides CE or Reach.
Has noticeable frame loss, even on lowest settings, but still playable. Has a big issue with crashing as well. When I disabled vsync, it seemed to increase frames, yet the noticeable frame loss is still there.
Still has noticeable frame loss, but is much more comfortable to play with from last report. I did experience a crash after at least an hour of game play. Now, the biggest issue is save points. Perhaps this is a game issue itself? I read up online that the save points are at weapons lockers. But I captured a ton of strong points from the KPA, and used a weapons locker each time. And I believe it is also supposed to save when you "wake up" after dying. Instead, once the game DID crash, it returned me to the starting point of the first mission after you defeat the convoy with the barrels. This is frustrating, however I don't know whether it's an issue with Proton-- or if it is an issue with the actual game.
Here is a similar/the same issue: https://steamcommunity.com/app/223100/discussions/0/154645539344397564/
Blocked from multiplayer due to Easy Anti Cheat, I am able to join a multiplayer game for roughly 1-2 minutes, then times out and kicks me. Everything else is fine!
Game fails upon launch stating to run it as a user, and not administrator.

%command% -ignorepipelinecache
Did not test without -ignorepipelinecache due to other reviews stating to use it, my only stability issue was the game crashing randomly which was resolved in an IRC chat with sam_ in #gentoo, which we have put into the Steam troubleshooting wiki https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Steam/Client_troubleshooting#Games_immediately_crash.2Fdon.27t_start
When I didn't have pulseaudio running, and Jack2 was the only audio server up, Rocksmith detected the cable immediately and let me continue. However, that means you can't hear anything since your sinks are also not up. This is mostly because I don't understand Jack, ALSA, and PA enough to get it to work effectively.
You absolutely require to have the sample rate at 16-bit 48kHz however, not the default 16-bit 41.2kHz
In Cadence, the sources seem to just be from my Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd gen, not my rocksmith cable
Jack as well is for Professional Audio, thus should eliminate the audio lag other users are reporting.
I will write another report/guide on how to get this to work when I figure out what to do.
In summary, this seems to be more so an issue with Linux Audio/lack of understanding of Linux Audio, not Proton itself, and the game is running well under current Proton.
Seems to require a proper Jack audio configuration for the correct frequency (48kHz), and lack of lag.

Services issue required for multiplayer
When I launch the game, it gets stuck on "Updating". I've attempted to switch to different version of proton, but none seem to work. I've also tried disabling ESYNC, and I get the same results.
Runs perfect on Ubuntu 18.04LTS, have not tested on Gentoo yet. If you have an Nvidia card, you NEED to install the proprietary drivers nvidia-drivers, not the open source Nouveau drivers. It is also a requirement by steam to be running Nouveau. I wanted to add this in, because two other comments on here with the borked rating are running Nouveau.
Absolutely no problems with Proton at all, it's a buggy EA game, but a good buggy EA game.
NOT PROTON RELATED
Just want to help others debug this. Occasionally some sims will get stuck in a task, e.g. teaching their kids how to do something in the toddler stage. What you do is the following:
- ctrl+shift+c, a blue box will appear at the top left corner.
- Enter in
testingcheatsenabled true
and press return - Once again, ctrl+shift+c
- Enter in
resetsim <firstname> <lastname>
and press return, that will resolve the issue
As far as the saves crashing goes, pretty sure that isn't a proton issue either and has the same problems on Windows. Just ensure you save often. It's an EA problem.
Don't get me wrong, this game runs mostly fine. Only issue is after probably about 30 minutes of playtime, the game will crash. Afterwords, it will launch back into safe mode and you need to reconfigure your graphics options again.
Used the launch screen bypass beta work around, as well as wined3d, and it does launch; however, when the shark comes up to bite it immediately crashes and just repeats that cycle whenever I continue to attempt to run via bypass. On regular launch, it crashes immediately upon launch.
I am placing this in Platinum since this is the buddy pass/trial version-- Not the full game. It starts up just fine, but when it gets to the menu it is stuck on authenticating.
I THINK this is because I don't have a friend with a buddy pass to where I can actually play the game, thus making this a non proton issue. But I can't verify that being I don't actually own the game yet. When I do, I will submit another report.
