A bit of stuttering from time to time. Nothing too bad.
Flawless as far as I know. P2P is great and no issues with the networking of the game.
Depending on your Desktop Environment some problems may arise with the windowing. (Just turn off Xorg compositing).
When alt-tabbing, at least in XFCE4, some keys might not work after resuming gameplay (to fix, just enter the Steam Overlay and exit. At least that works for me...)
The game does not launch in native nor with Proton.
gamemoderun %command%
Menu sensitivity felt extremely slow, while in-game sensitivity was 3x as stronger.
Crashed each time I opened my game to multiplayer.
Crashed each time I set my game to anything but single-player.
Multiplayer is borked here.
5.9-GE-6-ST GloriousEggroll
Significant input delay (30-75ms), inaccurate and slow.
35% FPS drop compared to other DB Builds.
Maybe average FPS/GPU load for more precise notes. Suggesting an advanced programmer section for more experienced users to describe their problems in further detail.
The game runs significantly slower.
Even in low-res the game still runs >50% slower.
Good experience, minor inconveniences.
Switching tabs while on Fullscreen Mode moves the screen a bit to the bottom-right while the input is still at the center. Had to play on Windowed Mode.
Although probably my fault, Ctrl Key for crouching doesn't work.
setxkbmap -layout us -model pc105 && gamemoderun %command% ; setxkbmap -layout us,latam -variant dvorak, -model pc105 -option "grp:win_space_toggle"
Interestingly for its silver
rating, my experience has been flawless so far...
gamemoderun %command% --no-sandbox
For whatever reason my character is stuck in a perpetual sprint. No re-binding, alt-tabbing or tinkering has helped so far...
Save games from my Windows VM would not carry over to my machine (might be a feature that's not even implemented).
All bugs carried over 1 to 1, so it was too much fun as usual (not being sarcastic/cynical, it's genuinely amazing).
I'll keep tinkering, but for now I'm unable to play this on Linux with perpetual sprinting.
The game doesn't even start at all, no matter what Proton version I use...
5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
The game shares keyboard shortcuts with the Desktop environment, causing GNOME to interfere.
The game does not launch
The game could not launch at all, no matter what SteamPlay version is set.
If you run it in KDE, in my limited experience, make sure you configure it right. Also, _helpful advice_: **_DISABLE THE OVERLAY_**.
setxkbmap -layout us -model pc105 && gamemoderun %command% ; setxkbmap -layout us,latam -variant dvorak, -model pc105 -option "grp:win_space_toggle"
Way too slow loading of base/freigther components, trade posts, settlement details, etc.
Alt-Tabbing resets my setxkbmap
overrides, but might be a KDE thing instead of Proton(?).
Switching graphical settings or the unusual alt-tab every now and them will make the game stutter much more and causes FPS to drop like crazy. KWin may be a partial culprate.
After playing for a while using the portal or switching systems in any way will make a permanent "portaling", no loading.
My KDE configuration might be at fault for some stuff here, but not the loading portal bug I mentioned, for sure.
5.21-GE-1
Lower-Res fullscreen persisted after exiting game.
Occasional, but I think it's more on the game itself rather than (in)compatibility.
Will try installing mods and write another report.
This game runs better on proton than natively.
Even Downsizing the resolution worsens performance.
Just make sure to play with resolution and advanced graphics to make the FPS bearable at least.

Some of the cars (at the very least in Trumbull Valley) flicker either from certain angles or constantly.
This happened to the entire Steam Big Picture ecosystem. Xbox One controller connected through USB is either undetectable or, when detected, was persistently missing the X
and B
mappings. Haven't tested this in a while, though, but I have the xboxdrv
package installed from the AUR.
Stuttering, though I have no comparison with a Windows build. Reducing both Anti-Aliasing and Effects quality improve FPS significantly.
DISABLE STEAM OVERLAY!!!!
setxkbmap -layout us -model pc105 && gamemoderun %command% -devmode ; setxkbmap -layout us,latam -model pc105 -variant dvorak, -option "grp:win_space_toggle"
NOTE: My command-line options are a single line.
After a lot of debugging I saw the ERROR: ld.so: object '/home/REDACTED/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32): ignored.
message too often, so I disabled the overlay and there it goes, it launches!
Looked at the terminal output. You should launch steam
from the console from time to time, particularly if you feel the need to debug. My recommendation, redirect STDERR
output as STDOUT
, then use tee
to write to a log file if you need to look for specific lines:
steam 2>&1 | tee -a /path/to/your_steam_log.log
[GloriousEggroll's Fork] Keyboard was not detected at all, plus a lot of mouse input lag and overall inaccuracy.
Proton-6.5-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
GloriousEggroll's Fork
Keyboard bounds were not detected at all (whether playing on dvorak or default US layout)
Despite experiencing mouse input errors, those would occur unfrequently. Other than that, couldn't notice a difference between OS!
Installed all D3D Dependencies, including dinput.dll
After some time of playing, mouse input would suddenly and unexpectedly become inaccurate, and super janky (currently no way to replicate reliably, except for a long playthrough). Also, input lag was noticeable throughout playthrough.
All good and stable, to the point I couldn't tell the difference between OS!
Native can't run. Proton can't run either :/
setxkbmap -layout us -model pc105 && %command% ; setxkbmap -layout us,latam -variant dvorak, -model pc105 -option "grp:win_space_toggle"
A C# exception is handled, so I'm not sure what is going on exactly. This is a masterpiece and it pains me that I can't run it.
