never gets past the update manager
Crashes with the message "The Update Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close"
On first launch, it got stuck for minutes trying to verify add-ons. I eventually killed the process. On second launch, it got past that screen, and I selected Window mode for graphics. It worked fine until I changed the size of the window. Then, I think the map for detecting mouseclicks was wrong, because nothing worked afterwards. I killed the process again. Just use the defaults. It seems fine that way.
Unable to connect to Xbox Live. The halloween event, for example, lets me play and win rewards, but those rewards will disappear from my game unless I successfully link with Xbox Live. (Or so the event itself tells me.) I click the button to link, get a new o.s. window with a button to "Sign In", but nothing ever happens.
Game launches to a solid black screen, plus mouse and launch music.
I launch the game and hear the music, plus I can see the mouse icon on screen, but it's just a solid black screen. I can successfully move the mouse around the black screen, but there doesn't seem to be anything to interact with on screen. I end up having to kill the game from the Steam menu.
I upgraded from LinuxMint 21.3 to LinuxMint 22. The game works fine afterward. I'm just on the Proton Experimental option.
installs but doesn't play
I tried both "standard" Proton 5.0-9 and also Proton-5.9-GE-6-ST. No difference. Click Play, it seems to try doing something, then Steam shows it's not running.
unable to play game since patch 9
The launcher works fine. I tried both Vulkan and DX11 options. Both will change the mouse to a new icon, make the screen black, play a brief audio sound, then both get stuck at a black screen doing nothing. I never get any other display to appear. I end up killing the game process though the main Steam client.
Steam acts like it's going to launch the game, but then... nothing. No error screen, just nothing.
It's back to not working again when I hit Play.
Each launch, I get a window saying that Steam is installing "Microsoft .NET Framework (step 1 of 1)". It finishes, then nothing happens.
installing .NET then nothing
New distro version, new graphics card, so I thought I'd try again, but same problem as always. Each launch, I get a window saying that Steam is installing "Microsoft .NET Framework (step 1 of 1)". It finishes, then nothing happens.
Is this game still not fixed because everyone keeps giving it Gold ratings? Stop doing that. I uninstalled the game, deleted the Steam folder it left behind, then reinstalled the game. I press Play, it installs .NET, it says it's running, then... nothing.
Says it launches, but then nothing happens.
Click Play, steam shows it running, then a few seconds later, steam shows no game running. No gui popup windows anywhere. Just nothing.
I tried uninstalling the game from Steam and reinstalling. It downloads, I click Play, and... nothing happens. No windows (after the Steam license key window), no errors, just nothing.
Steam says it launches, then nothing happens.
Click Play. Steam status window says it's running, then a few seconds later Steam says it's not running. No gui popup windows, just nothing.
After midnight, at the beginning of day 3, the game just crashes. I was able to save game before midnight. Each time I load it or the earlier auto-save point, the time advances to day 3 (00:02, to be precise), then the game crashes again.
It worked, sort of, until I switched to Proton beta 3.16-4. Now, the game never launches. I press the Play button, Steam seems like it's preparing to launch, then nothing. No game screen, nothing. I tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling, but still nothing after pressing Play.
EA Origin says there's something wrong with the game install
After signing in, Origin simply says there's something wrong with the game (no specifics) and to reinstall it. It took 7 hours to download in the first place. The current version of Proton in my Steam app is 6.3-4.
stuck at Uplay PC
Window appears "Unable to locate UplayPC. Please reinstall Uplay PC."
stuck at Uplay "Looking for patches"
The game seems to start. I get a Uplay window. I never reach any login window. It says "Looking for patches", but it never finds them. It perpetually displays the spinning icon until I close the window to end the game.
launches to black screen then game exits
I'm using Proton 5.13-1. The game launches, one of my monitors briefly shows a black screen, then I'm back to Steam which says the game is no longer running.
Proton-5.9-GE-8-ST
The program crashes or freezes randomly, 5-20 minutes into play. Also guaranteed to happen during tutorial when I move too close to the next planet. No matter the mode of travel (pulse drive, booster, or standard), the game locks up when I get very near the destination planet. I cannot progress the game beyond a save point on the starter planet.
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_LOG=1 %command%

Here are the logs from my most recent session with the Glorious Eggroll version of Proton. Plenty of interesting errors that might help someone more knowledgeable than me. https://termbin.com/i7u4
Black screen then failure. Set Launch Options: "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" Launch fails once. Launch again, and it works fine.
Does not work since the tameable pet update.
Complete freeze of my computer whenever I visit any planet with animals (since the animal pet update a few weeks ago). I can go to 2 planets in my network without tameable pets. Any other location freezes my computer, requiring a cold boot.
Error message at launch: Windows 7/8.1 are no longer supported. Multiplayer features will be disabled. If on Win10+ please ensure NMS.exe (and steam.exe) is not running in Compatibility Mode. Please refer to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ for details. Debug details for HG: OS Version reported as 6.1.
Multiplayer is disabled automatically at startup as indicated in error message.
Selling items requires holding down the ALT key and then right-clicking the item in inventory while at a vendor. The ALT key seems to work (mouse icon changes) but clicking does nothing.
I tried both Proton Experimental and Glorious Eggroll 9.12. Neither allows me to sell items. This bug was previously identified in a Reddit post and reported in an official Discord channel somewhere. Apparently some people (not everyone) can work around it by using CTRL-ALT-RightClick. It worked for me.
Game loads fine, but everything is black. I can see the sky, name tags, and special effects. Buildings, terrain, and characters, however, are solid black.
Launcher display error message "error:Invalid or missing parameters., parameter:steamid" then it just disappears.
brief black screen, then nothing
I launch the game, my screen blinks, then I get a fullscreen black display, then displays return to normal. Steam says the game is running, but I see nothing. I click "Stop" on Steam gui to kill the program.
The game played fine until I landed on system Narion planet Andraphon. Now, the game crashes apparently randomly and frequently.
display settings problems, but otherwise quite playable
I have 2 displays. The game utterly refuses to use the 2nd screen. Normally, I can force an application to the other display, but with this game I have to set my screens to Duplicate mode to play on the correct screen.
I had to reduce graphics to lowest settings otherwise system cpu was sludge.
It launches to the config screen, but various options there just lead to a solid black window (fullscreen or not, as selected) that never actually loads anything. The process isn't using cpu, memory, or disk space; it just sits there as a black window.
The game would launch and run (but no character audio) on earlier versions, but I get no response at all on Proton 4.2-1. There's a very brief window like it's preparing to launch, then... nothing.
The trick to rename the launcher works fine, but the "Downloads Dashboard" doesn't work at all. I went and bought a World package ("Dragon Valley") because the main game seemed so stable and playable, only to discover that I just wasted $35 because I can't actually download it to my Linux system. There seems to be no way to manually download packages from their website, so the Downloads system has to work in-game.
I see the Play option menu but nothing else happens
I run the game and get the popup menu to choose the version to run. None of the options work. The Play button turns to Cancel and then a few seconds later back to Play. I tried switching to manually selected compatibility options (Proton 6.3-8, 5.13-6, and experimental) but nothing helped. I verified the integrity of local files, but that Steam option found no problems with my installation.
Stops at first startup screen
No response on native Linux app, so I switched Steam to use Proton. After long delay, it finally showed a full screen image with a spinning sheriff star. It never recovers from that point. I end up just killing the app.
stuck at black screen after selecting new game difficulty level
There's a Steam thread with people on Windows having the same problem. Someone says that the "Microsoft Media Pack" codecs must be installed. Any idea how to convince Proton to do the same for this game?

launcher works, but game doesn't
The launcher comes up fine. I click the Play button on the launcher, then either nothing happens or I sometimes notice an extremely brief image in the center of the screen before it disappears.
