A couple years ago it would try to use some other Ubisoft connection method, it wouldn't see a connection to the Internet and you couldn't get into the game. With Proton GE-Proton8-22 it runs fine, no tinkering other than using GE. (I have a feeling it would work with some earlier versions of GE or even Proton at this point, just letting you know what I'm using and that it works fine.)
Assigned Quicksave button
FPS limit to 40
Sometimes the FPS slightly drops and the cooler works on max speed
Sometimes the game freeze and requires a device reboot
The game sometimes crashes. It's better to test & try different versions of Proton to find out which works best for you. I tried Proton 7-49, 7-55 and 8 series. The standard 8.0-2 in my case seems to work best, even better than Proton GE. With a proper controller setup you will enjoy the game!

The game had to be launched 4 time before ubisoft software would update

Trying to do windowed mode causes the game to crash.
It can take quite a while for Uplay to update, but the game will install it for you.
stuck at Uplay "Looking for patches"
The game seems to start. I get a Uplay window. I never reach any login window. It says "Looking for patches", but it never finds them. It perpetually displays the spinning icon until I close the window to end the game.
Game Crashes On Startup
Dialog box says, "The game crashed. The crash report folder named 2020-030210175244 next to game executable. It would be great if you'd send it to the developer of the game!
After 1st launch to install / update Uplay client, need to log out / relogin to Steam client before real launch of the game.
Worked perfect. Once fully installed including Uplay, log out of steam and reboot PC. After reboot game will start no problems.
Other than having to create a Ubisoft account, installed and runs with no problems at all.
Had to fight UPlay (I really considered installing a cracked version, but finally I copied the game's Uplay "secret" from Windows install and it works. Why Ubisoft bothers so much paying customers...). The game works flawlessly then, even the problem with glittering of some enemies with current Nvidia drivers is solved. There are some really minor graphics glitches in HDR mode, the same as in Windows. Haven't needed any additional Wine (Proton) tweaks.
UPlay must be manually updated to connect to server. I did this by downloading the installer from their website and copying then renaming the UPlayInstaller and game .exe files to trick steam into running it for me.
Must use WineD3d11 or else the game will hang shortly after launch.
Played at near maxed out settings at 1440p. Was able to go through and clear out the first dungeon and leave town with no performance drops or crashes. Saving and loading works fine.
Launches uPlay login but unable to login to account "A ubisoft service currently unavailable"
