Platinum experience.
The fixes put into the latest stable Proton make this game perfectly playable!
its a good game and seems to run fine on steam deck with proton experimental so far without any problem arising.
although so far i have only played the game rift on steam deck for a short time it seems to run perfectly fine with proton experimental without any issue/problem arising so far, and although it may take a small amount of time to get used to how the mouse and keyboard layout work through the decks buttons in-game but im please to see the decks buttons do work as the mouse and keyboard using the defalt layout that was already choosen so you dont actualy need to use them unless you want to.
I've had more than 591 hours of playtime (all on Linux, not Windows). Before whatever patch that Rift/Glyph pushed out (I think June 2022), this game ran flawlessly, and with my GTX-1080, the only issues I ever ran into were slow-downs during huge raids. After this latest update, regular Proton didn't work. Other users suggested Proton Experimental, and while that did work, after about 8-10 enemies onscreen (in a dungeon), the game would slow down and that's unacceptable. However, installing Glorious Eggroll 7-31 (it had the wrong SHA512 hash btw) it worked perfectly. I haven't tried it in a huge raid yet, but so far the same dungeon and 12+ enemies did not slow down my game.
A steam --reset may be required as the Glyph downloader got borked in prior releases.
Rift will not run without a specific proton. Right now, experimental is the only one I know of that works. It's a fun game if you can get past that it has been neglected by the owners and is now low pop.
Glyph runs, Rift cannot start, error 1024
This worked perfectly the morning of 6-14-22. Then there was a Glyph update and I could no longer start Rift from Glyph. The error said no windows program exists to open the file (or similar words) and gave error 1024. I tried verifying the files through Glyph but that gave the following "There was an error starting the background update process (Error #1024)". I tried verifying and then reinstalling through Steam which gave no errors but didn't help. Switching to Proton experimental resulted in Glyph not running at all, switching back to Glorious Eggroll gave the same errors as before.
It was working a few months ago. What changed?
The Lutris scripts are a dead end, over a year old for all three. PlayOnLinux didn't work either. Winetricks options
Trying to install with Lutris and PlayOnLinux both resulted in the installer for the Glyph launcher to crash before Glyph could be installed. You can get Steam to download all of the files, but the Glyph launcher refuses to start no matter what Proton version I select.
Idk how others got it running but it doesn't work for me. I've tried all the recommended proton versions but it does not launch.
Tried all the versions of proton people have listed as working, including GE, Glyph launcher still crashes immediately after launch.
I don't know how others got it working, but it's not working for me. :(
Won't start
Tried different versions of Proton (experimental, 7, 6.3, 4.2.9). The game or the launcher won't start. After some seconds, Steam shows the play button again. Can't find anything helpful in the logs. Maybe they fixed it broken on 1st February?!

Use the latest Proton-GE. Delete your old compdata/39120 folder prior to using any new Proton version.
I tend to prefer windowed mode, and switching resolutions did not crash for me, as others have stated. I did reinstall this game and did not record my old configuration. Thus I did run into issues with the vanilla Proton not working correctly these days. ProtonGE without any command line parameters worked perfectly.

Too laggy and too much stutter to be enjoyable.
Could not check the box that I accepted the TOS and privacy policies during installation, but it worked anyway.
Severe intermittent lag and stutter even on the lowest graphics settings.
You'll need to run an earlier version of Proton 4.29, specially! it will error out and not start otherwise.
Tried proton versions mentioned in thread but to no luck. Used latest Proton GE, everything works.
could crash when switching resolutions.
USE PROTON 4.2-9 . IT WILL NOT WORK WITH NEWER PROTON VERSIONS.
RUNS SMOOTHLY ON 4.2.9

Use proton 4.2-9 to install the game.
fr : Utiliser proton 4.2-9 pour installer le jeu.

All works well out of the box with open-source nouveau drivers. My hardware is old, so the game stuttered a lot, but that is to be expected.
I have a previous report of this game being borked because it got stuck when trying to run it on "Preparing to launch RIFT" window. I am not sure if this problem was because of RIFT or Steam in general (RIFT is the only game i tried) but this problem occured when using the NVIDIA 390.141 drivers that Linux Mint recommended. Switching back to the nouveau drivers sikved this problem and the game ran as expected (though slow given my hardware and maybe the driver, not sure)

I get stuck on "Preparing to launch RIFT"
I tried with proton 5.13, 5.10, 4.11. I found https://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/3108014879956241052/ But as I only have 1 graphics card (I use a laptop) I am not sure that solves my issue, or at least I couldn't understand how it does.
I'm pretty sure I had this game work using proton on an even older laptop a year ago so this is weird to me that it is happening now, but as it stands this is what I can report.
Runs great out of the box, no issues whatsoever, great performance.
Fullscreen works perfectly. Windowed Fullscreen reads mouse position as ~60 pixel higher than it should. Need to put mouse cursor below the buttons to click them.

The game finally works properly for me with Proton 5.13.
Rift works just as it would on Windows, even with GlyphClient loaded in the background as well as Discord.
Easy, easy, easy, easy, and fun.
Major stuttering/pausing every 15-30 seconds made it unplayable. Tried running single core and also with all settings turned down to minimum and it made no difference.
Works great out of the box
I only played for 10 minutes but I didn't need to do any tinkering at all, just install the game & play. Game ran just fine, I was getting >200 FPS.
A bit of a performance hit compared to windows, but very playable

20-30% performance hit on FPS coming from native windows. latest version of proton just works out of the box, no tweaks required to get the game running.

What can I say? Everything worked right out of the box, no tricks required or command-line arguments needed.
My main OS is Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon, and my Steam is the Flatpack version

Não precisou fazer nada simplesmente baixou instalou e rodou.

Not working out of the box. The game often crashes. After adding d3dcompiler_43, d3dx9_43 and xact_jun2010, it worked seamlessly. Open a terminal and edit the following command to fit your directory path WINEPREFIX=/path/to/steamapps/compatdata/39120/pfx winetricks d3dcompiler_43 d3dx9_43 xact_jun2010

Not working out of the box (missing textures). After adding d3dcompiler_43 and d3dx9_43, the texture were there, but i got crashes after game launch. After reinstalling old wine stuff, and adding xact, it worked seamlessly. EDIT: Tested with Proton 3.16.7

Works fine with no graphical issues after that. Launcher updates without issues.

Game loads fine, but everything is black. I can see the sky, name tags, and special effects. Buildings, terrain, and characters, however, are solid black.

Solved black screen via using winetricks d3dcompiler_43 d3dx9_43 . There are still a number of issues though, first the launcher crashes upon trying to change server, this can be worked around by editing GlyphClient.cfg and changing depots from US to EU or vice versa. Second is that there still might be some graphics bugs in some cases although it is generally playable.

Lighting is non existent all textures render pitch black.

Game loads however graphics are mostly black making the game unplayable

While it does launch, lighting seems not to work at all (all models look pitch black), and enabling PostFX in the graphic options makes the whole screen minus the UI black. According to WineHQ, it works, so it may be a Proton or DXVK bug.

The game launches, but most textures are black, hence the "unplayable"
