Must install UbisoftConnect using Protontricks, but once you do that it works perfect
Runs great out of the box once the launcher gets installed
gamemoderun %command%
The game crashes if you use a pipewire "pro audio" sound card. Such a card does not report the nr. of available channels to the game. Fix this by creating a stereo virtual device that the game can understand: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/wikis/Virtual-Devices#virtual-sinks.

assassin's creed + proton + ubisoft connect is not working
ubisoft connect does not work properly. several attempts with protontricks were not successful as well. NOT running.
After try and error with different proton versions and with protontricks I gave up. The game was not running, and the ubisoft connect launcher worked only once after installation with protontricks. At the next launch nothing at all happend. :-(

If your pc is close to the minimum requirements for the game, you might encounter a few problems
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command%
Audio becomes weird right after a stutter
The game sttutters for a few seconds ramdomly
The game totally freezes or closes after 3-4 hours of gameplay
Random fps drops during loading phases we're frequent, and sometimes the game crashes, but I believe those problems are only found on weaker pcs

Mapped L3 and R3 to the backgrips
In AC3 Liberation, the are frame drops when using the map during the early game.
Both AC3 and Liberation crashed randomly.

Functional without problems

Ao iniciar pela primeira vez o inicializador Ubisoft demora um pouco mas ao fechar e abrir novamente funciona normalmente.
Seria ótimo ter uma configuração automática de pular outros inicializadores dentro da Steam.
Had no issues, with this title. You can still feel some performance drop, once you get into the bigger cities (but its the same with normal PC as well). Lightning still feels bit off. If you have the original AC3, just stick with that.
Liberation also works great. Looks so much better on the small screen, despite this is the "HD" version of the original.

I had to enter my Ubisoft Connected info once after it installed the Ubisoft app, but after I didn't have to enter it again when starting the game. No big issues, I have tried it at 60fps and 40fps/40hz. I would probably say the 40fps/40hz worked best, as you won't have to turn any settings down. Good experience so far
Ubisoft Connect stays open after the game is closed which means steam still sees it as running, annoying because in Steam Big Picture you can't end games, not the end of the world but not ideal. One way of closing properly is, in bis picture mode, pressing the home button on your controller and selecting end game, however then I've found it makes steam become windowed and hides the taskbar...
Still great work though!!

Uplay does not get automatically installed regardless of Proton version. Easiest workaround is to manually install via protontricks.
Install Uplay in game's Proton prefix via protontricks.
If you got this as part of AC Odyssey's Gold or Ultimate Edition, remember to install and launch Odyssey first to activate both games. The problems I faced as described below occured in both AC3 Remastered and Odyssey.
I kept getting a "Uplay installation not found" when trying to launch. This is unusual as Proton should have automatically installed Uplay in the prefix. Deleted the prefix and tried various versions of Proton (including Experimental and GE) to no avail.
Protontricks (https://github.com/Matoking/protontricks) has both a CLI and GUI. I used the GUI and it allowed me to select the game easily. Go to 'Install an application' and select Uplay. On the next launch, Uplay will update to Ubisoft Connect and the game runs flawlessly. I had my account already linked to Steam when I was still on Windows, and Uplay didn't even ask for credentials.
The Uplay in-game overlay is a little laggy, but works as expected. Launching and synching game data after closing it is ok. Steam detects that the game is still running if Uplay is still running, so you'll have to exit Uplay completely.
Game works great, no problems (not played much, because i have already played normal AC3)
Runs perfectly, works fine with an Xbox 360 controller.
IMPORTANT: If you bought the game as a part of the Odyssey Gold edition, you need to start Odyssey first in order to activate AC3.
Runs out of the box gracefully. There's some micro freezing in the first run, but reloading the game fixes that.

Runs on Kubuntu 21.10, Uplay loaded from install.
Uplay loaded first, muddled through that install, then closed out. Reloaded and the game started right up. Runs well, played for about an hour with no issues at 4K.
used Proton 6.3-7
Works out of the box
Game sadly needs the Ubisoft connect DRM software to be able to run the game. But at least the game worked now without a workaround with DXVK (DX11).
Works great without any tinkering

Proton-6.15-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.15-GE-2
I didnt even test with normal proton. Just used the latest proton-ge I had and everything works perfectly.
The controller configuration is slightly screwed up. The game is playable this way, but there have been some gameplay issues due to that.
The controller configuration could not be changed within the settings, as it only showed keyboard and mouse configurations. Buttons X and Y were reversed and A I believe is bound to right trigger (sprint). There may be more binding issues as well.
Only thing I noticed was in the opera when you have to kill the guy, the loop of saying press x to assassinate
flashes black when it restarts the loop but that may be on Windows as well. Definitely not game breaking.
It works fine.
GE Proton. Had to install and launch Odyssey first to get the Uplay key installed. Then game ran perfectly, inc 21:9
there is no real reason why some one will not be able to run it as all of the graphical options was maxed
mostly small copping and micro freeze but not any big problems, the problems are most in cut scenes and when the game first load.

Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll

required virtual desktop
requiered virtual desktop now mouse input doesn't work
None of the workarounds suggested worked for me.
Works with this custom version of Proton https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/4.20-GE-1
Requires adding dxvk.conf in $HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Assassin's Creed III Remastered/ with option d3d11.maxFeatureLevel = 11_1
Also installed d3dcompiler_43 and d3dcompiler_47 with protontricks.
Fullscreen did not work for me, but borderless works fine.

Black screen, no video. Uplay overlay disabled.

Install d3dcompiler_43 and d3dcompiler_47 with protontricks. Works fine @63fps all setting maxed out.

Black screen, tried disabling the Ubisoft overlay

Black screen as soon as launching (no startup videos) but Game seems working, I can hear sounds and musics
