Works perfectly out of the box - just choose Proton
Didn't run it on native, switched to Proton (at that time 7.0.2). Worked perfectly out of the box!
uplay://launch/4
AC2 is stilll developed fot Uplay. This is why the game always whats to run Uplay but Uplay is deactiveted and never finds a connection. So, you need to install Ubisoft Connect (the new crappy launcher) first via Steam or Wine and remember where they installed it. In my case it was under Wine drive:c/Programm 86x/Ubisoft. Then you search (if steam is installed as flatpak) for home/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/33230/pfx/drive_c/Programm Files (86x)/Ubisoft Within delete the whole folder (in my case) "Ubisoft Game Launcher" and paste the folder from your new Ubisoft installation before in there. Then it works automatically out of the box.

Freezes sometimes. Thats not related to Proton but to the game itself as the CPU overclocks shortly and causes the game to freeze. There are multiple guides to fix that.
Problem was that Uplay is still part of the installation. Had to get Brotherhood Ubisoft Connect and copy it to the Wine path of Revelations to get it running. See AC2 workaround.
At night, the entire image was displayed in a bluish filter. However, reloading usually solved the problem.
The game has quite some bugs, which are all related to Ubisoft not Proton. With Experimental the game just works fine. Windows can't display UW correctly. Proton can. Very funny. So all in all, good experience on Zorin as it was not possible on Windows.
Worked without any problems
Worked perfectly fine out of the box
Lags every minute or so BUT this is related to Ubisoft! The game tries to contact servers which do not exist anymore so either you change config files (wwhich didnt work for me) or deactived the internet... So this has nothing to do with Proton!!
-playoffline
Nothing to complain
Cannot reccomend it right now
I ran the benchmarks with the same settings, both on Windows and on Zorin. Had an average fps on Zorin around 18 while I have 84 fps on average on Windows.
Unfortunatly its marked as gold and "Deck Playable" but due to the significantly high difference in the performance, I can not recommend the game with Proton right now

Changing from Proton 7.0-1 to GE-Proton7-14 gives me average fps of 44.

Works perfectly out of the box!
Nothing to optimise - works out of the box
Worked perfectly out of the box

Perfect
Never had any issues at all!

Some suttering in new areas - therefore limited framerate to 70 via launch options
Worked perfectly out of the box
Its not related to Proton. You have to set MSAA to 2x. Above 2x heavy lags.
Works perfectly out of the box
No problems at all - just launched the game with Proton 6.3.8 and it worked perfectly fine.
Worked perfectly out of the box
Nothing to say. Just used the 8.0-3 and everthing worked perfectly
Heavy lags after 45-60min of gameplay. Had to restart the game to fix it. Not sure if its related to Proton...
Unfortunatly does not work
Tried a few steps recommended below but none of them worked.
Ubisoft Connect installs nice and boots but the game always crashes during the loading screen. Not even killing the game stopped it...
Works perfectly out of the box
Sometimes light fps drops but can not say if its the game or because of Proton. Absolutly playable, so not significant at all but noticeable
Everything works perfectly even with a xbox controller via cable.
Highly recommendable!
Everything was absolutely fine! I compared the fps on Windows and here and they are just the same! Only thing - I realised that the scenes where everybody is drinking with you where not displayed. I don't know if this is a bug by Proton or in gerenal but I realised this after watching one or two videos...
eval $(echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/pc\/Mafia II Definitive Edition.exe'/")
Micro lags every 3 seconds or so. Not a huge deal but for me very annoying.
Tried every available Proton version. GE 47, 7.0.5, 7.0.6 (next) and Experimental. Non of them fixed the micro lags problem
eval $(echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/mafiadefinitiveedition.exe'/")
As previous players mentioned: Launcher needs to be deactivated via the command. The rest worked perfectly out of the box!
gamemoderun MANGOHUD=1 %command%
As mentioned before I also got flickering plants and items (like a croud) in a few scenes but all together three to four scenes in total
Compared to Windows with the same settings, I got around 10-15 fps less on Zorin (Windows 50- 60, Zorin 40 - 50 fps).
After all I did not have any problems at all. The flickering in some scenes is but perfect and I recogonzied less fps as on Windows but after all - absolutely playable and recommendable!
I played the game at the beginning of the year and everything worked fine. Although I never changed to OS nor the graphics driver, now I am getting an error message "No suitable D3D12 adapter found. Please check minimum requirements specified on the store page." I tried every Proton version (Experimental, 8.0.3 and GE 8-16) but non of them worked. Finally I got the game started setting up the Steam Tinker Launcher als Launch option with and definded Proton Experimental within the Tinker Launcher and after the Guardians of the Galaxy Launcher started I manually changed the settings in the options to "Low". "Medium" also seemed to work but had longer to wait to load into the game. Worked from there on, if anybody encounters the same problem...
Used Steam Tinker Launch only to get Flawless Widescreen to work. Experimental worked out of the box without any issues during 90h gameplay. No crashes, no bugs, nothing! Perfect!

Very few players - therefore not too much info. But worked fine!
Nothing to complain.
The steam in game overlay with GE 41 wont work perfectly but is fine.
Works perfectly out of the box
Just use the default Proton version. No tinkering, nothing. Its just working perfectly fine.
Works perfectly out of the box
Excellent
Same, excellent
Great experience - works out of the box! Without any issues. even with excellent performance
Works perfectly out of the box
Perfect
Also perfect
No issues at all!
Crashes around 15min after launch while in game
Works perfectly out of the box
Only in the Blood and Wine DLC. Had around 5-10 crashes in 25 hours. No problem but conspicuous. Not sure if it is related to Proton or the DLC itself. Not a single crash in the main game or Hearts of Stone!
Proton 6.3.8
I compared the performance with Windows. Absolutely equivalent and no problems at all. As mentioned, I had a few crashes in the Blood and Wine DLC, otherwise no problems in 120h during the main game and Hearts of Stone DLC.
