Freezes on black splash screen
None of the workarounds change anything. Game just opens a black rectangle, I guess it's a failing splash screen, and nothing ever happens, must close game through terminal.

Never, ever buy EA games on Steam, they do not launch anymore thanks to the shitty launcher, and every time Proton contributors find a way to fix, EA purposefully breaks it again. Don't give your money to these predators.

What the hell is EA doing with this completely useless, unnecessary and not asked for launcher, it does not work at all, and the game does not launch. Tried multiple Proton versions (5 through 8) and Proton-GE for no luck.

Yet another game that used to run and was ruined by the trash EA app, it does not work at all, and the game does not launch at all. Tried multiple Proton versions (5 through 8) and Proton-GE for no luck.
Never buy games from EA, and try to refund them as this is a bait and switch fraud.
You need to follow instructions from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1538, otherwise the game will have no numbers at all (money, angles, resolution, etc).
The game randomly drops framerate by half for a while, up to a minute, then goes back to fluid framerates. There's no other type of stuttering or performance loss.
The game needs a specific version of ucrtbase.dll that's not the one bundled with Proton/Wine, but can be obtained from Windows 10 or VC Redistributable installers as explained on the Github issue.
Runs out of the box with expected performance
The game is running smoothly for several versions of Proton now, it started working with 5.13 and currently runs at great performance, out of the box, no tinkering needed. I have also tried Proton-GE and had success, but didn't see significant benefit.
Does not launch at all
Such a shame considering how great Planet Coaster runs with no tinkering. Planet Zoo won't even open a splash screen, it just keeps "running" but does not start. Tried several Proton versions (5.0 through 7.0, experimental, several Proton-GE releases) and no dice.
I did NOT tinker, the form seems bugged. Works out of the box since Proton 8 is available, just as good as Planet Zoo
mf-install is only required to play end game videos.
