Works out of the box

Game installs and starts, but cannot get to menu
After installing and starting game initial logo animations are shown, but when pressing a key to get to menu, game crashes.

Unable to launch game due to SecuROM error 9000
Apparently SecuROM launch issues can be fixed by installing VC++ 2010 but this made no difference.
When trying to launch the game I get a SecuROM error saying "A required security module cannot be activated. This program cannot be executed (9000)" and it doesn't go any further. The link to the SecuROM site just says to reinstall the program. So I did. No difference.
The official Disney support page obviously has no useful info on it by now.
There's a Steam Community post for Arkham City GOTY which says a missing Msvcr71.dll could be the cause of the 9000 error. This is included in VC++ 2010 so I installed that through Protontricks but it didn't help.
I sanity checked I have lib32-nvidia-utils installed.
I tried Proton Experimental, 9.0-4, 7.0-6, 5.13-6 and 5.0-10 but they were all the same.
I even removed and reinstalled Wine then went through every troubleshooting step again just in case but that didn't help. At this point I gave up.

The game works flawlessly, i only set proton experimental not to have multiple protons around taking up space
Didn't test multiplayer as servers are long closed, but the game runs like native, it should be platinum...

Online in this game has not been working for a long time. This is not related to Proton
Multiplayer over a local network works great, and the good old split screen mode
There is nothing more to add. Like a Swiss watch

Keyboard required in certain menus, including using "Tab" to switch rows
External factor, servers have been shut down for years now.
works as is
Still looks and feels amazing to play, even 15 years after it was released.

I've completed the game campaign without issues using Proton 8.0-5
Side note: the game is internally locked at 30 fps (not Proton's fault)
I have to set graphical settings to "low" to avoid stattering and graphical glitches

gamescope -- %command%
Alt-tabbing works, once, then the game is a small long square in upper left screen, this is fixed by using gamescope.
Just works

The game itself is locked at 30fps, but its not noticieable on the Deck. The game its beautiful. Its almost like it was made for the Deck.
Its a "must play" on the Steam deck, without any doubt
On some maps, occasional, minor microstuttering is present. It"s barely noticable without the frametime graph.

I just installed it and played. Didn't choose proton or anything. It works just perfect for me from the box without any extra settings. It's weird that it tagged as "Unsupported".
No issues, runs at a solid 30 FPS with normal battery usage. Did not encounter any issues in terms of FPS lowage.
Framerate Limit: 30 Watts: 6
Only real tinkering was changing to Proton Experimental, that made the graphical artifacts disappear.

Interface shows keyboard prompts only, which is more annoying than usual in this game since the menu navigation isn't always intuitive. Here's the legend for reference:
Enter = A button
ESC = B button
Space = X button
Tab = Y button
I didn't notice any graphical errors on default 7.0-6 Proton, but might as well use Experimental since it's currently reported as more compatible.
Save corruption glitch (has been happening since the pc release in 2015)
THE GAME HAS A SAVE CORRUPTION GLITCH AT THE EPISODE 6 ! To avoid it you must complete this episode in 1 session, other than that the game is a blast and i would recommend anyone interested in arcade racing game to give it a chance
The game runs great out of the box with Proton Experimental (which is greater than 7.0-6 as of this review).
A few months ago, this game was unplayable. Now it runs great.

Medium artifacts, randomly. Sometimes vertical lines. Maybe a bit less after switching to "Very High" quality in the options.
Split screen seems to work fine with two USB controllers (Logitech F310). Didn't try LAN multiplayer.
Absolute blast (literally), enjoyed it very much.
Translucent grid pattern, large background pixelation artifacts
The graphical glitches (translucent grid, large background artifacts) were disappointing to see, but they don't affect gameplay at all. Multi-player servers are offline so you only get the single player campaign. This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience that made me really disappointed that the sequel was canceled.
Enjoyable single-player, despite pervasive graphics glitch. Multiplayer servers are offline.
Lock framerate to 30FPS, matching in-game performance.
The game features an unusual semi-transparent grid pattern over the top of the gameplay & menus. This pattern is sometimes invisible, and is highly apparent at other times. The size of the grid pattern changes dending on the graphic quality setting. Changing Proton versions seems to have no impact. This grid pattern does not interfere with gameplay, but is noticable from time to time.
Despite having a pervasive graphics glitch in the form of a semi-transparent grid pattern, Split Second has no performance issues. The game is completely playable, requires no tinkering, and is very fun on Steam Deck.
All control prompts use keyboard icons, but are automatically mapped to the logically correct buttons on the Steam Deck.
One of my personal favorite games of all time, and it runs just as well as it did on Windows.
... though it should probably still be noted that, just like on Windows, it's locked to 30 FPS and has none of the DLC it has on other platforms. That's a port issue, though, not a Linux problem.
Grid-like artifacts in the background of gameplay and main menu
Plays like a dream on the Deck - if only the grid-like artifacts during gameplay could be ironed out. It would be perfect. As-is, though, perfectly playable.
Limited to 30FPS as the game is locked at 30FPS anyway
I've never got the LAN multiplayer to work - it would be great if you could play in a lobby on 2 steam decks on the same network.
Game runs at 30fps stock, so limited fps to 30 in deck setting for more battery life.
Game is locked at 30fps out of the box and by design. Onscreen controls are displayed as keyboard, but will work with the recommended control scheme. No online play since servers were shutdown years ago.
Some weird translucent triangle on screen at all times
Save file got corrupted and I abandoned this game entirely
Game was much laggier than on Windows so I just played on that system for a while
Initially completely froze when pressing any button on the title screen, don't remember what I did to get past that
Runs perfectly after switching to Proton Experimental (Proton 7.0-3 only works after switching back to it from Experimental??)
Any technical issues I encountered (i.e. missing controller support in menus and manual binding for races required) are flaws of the game that also appear on Windows. The game occasionally stutters slightly when certain things happen for the first time (building cache?), overall a very enjoyable experience though.

with the last proton experimental that will be stable quickly u have no issue to play that game with all his fonctionality
online server of the game are dead but u can theroically use lan mode with some program that will create fake local network for playing online, like zero tier. Didnt have test that but shoulkd work theorically
the needed proton version is at least 7.03
Hangs after each keyboard input
PROTON_LOG=1 WINEESYNC=1 PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 DXVK_HUD=full WINE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 DXVK_STATE_CACHE_PATH=/home/johnc/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/297860/pfx STAGING_SHARED_MEMORY=1 __GL_DXVK_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE=1 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_PATH=/home/johnc/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/297860/pfx %command% -w 1280 -h 720

Broken in default setup
PROTON_LOG=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command% -w 1280 -h 720
Also every time i press any input from my keyboard, it hangs for seconds
A transluscent square grid overlay-like artefact is always present. Changing quality from High to Very High makes the tiles of the grid smaller. Changing resolution in-game screws up brightness.
The game has crashed my Deck completely once.
The game is playable with caveats.
It crashes immediately with recent Proton versions (7.0-2, GE-Proton7-17). As previously reported, Proton 5.0-10 makes the game run.
It has controller support but prompts are seemingly for a DirectInput controller (button 1 = A, button 2 = B, etc) during tutorial. In menus, only keyboard prompts are displayed.
The framerate is locked to 30fps and there are some hiccups, mostly during power plays.
Meh experience, visible artifact, pc port locked to 30 fps, only keyboard prompt, it's playable but not great
6w TDP and 600 gpu MHZ
visible vertical black line artifact during menu and gameplay
Game only show keyboard prompt
Will simply refuse to start with default proton, game seems really nitpicky when it comes to choosing a proton version
Add this to launch options -w 1920 -h 1080, then switch to whatever supported resolution works best/available in game settings. Couldn't get to launch until I added that option.
I tried a few other versions, it launched on most (including current 6.3-8) but was most stable on 5.0-10. My main issue seemed to be the initial resolution at launch, after I worked that out every seemed to work.
Use Proton 5.0-10
[✕] Proton 6.3-6
[✕] Proton 5.13-6
[✓] Proton 5.0-10
I had to switch to an older Proton version (5.0-10), and since I can't "alt-tab" I avoid playing this game.
Kinda annoying to have to switch Proton versions, and the fact that I can't "alt-tab" is really annoying since it's one of my favorite things to do when playing video games on PC, since I love listening to videos on the background, having music, checking Discord and Whatsapp and the occasional race when on class, but since swapping to Lubuntu I wasn't able to do that with this game, probably for the better.

Vanilla not working anymore either on proton 3.16.-9 or 6.15-GE-2 : the so fancy securom kicks in, preventing the launch
There is a high probability removing securom trough a patched .exe would work, but I wonder if there is any to be found?

Can't reach main menu
Using proton 5.13-6 or experimental, the game freezes whenever I press some key and I can't pass from "Press Enter to continue" screen. With other versions, including 3.16-9, the game changes to "launching" for a few seconds and them closes without showing anything.

Still isn't working on 5.0, but as others have stated, it runs well on 3.16-9
Slightly more stuttering then my windows install. not a big issue, and mostly in menus anyways.
I experienced slightly more stuttering than on my windows install, but it's nothing game breaking, and appears to be better on lower settings. so people with modern hardware likely won't notice anything at all. my xbox 360 controller didn't map automatically like on windows, but everything works, and key binding manually is fine, you just can't navigate menus with controller like on windows.
