Just works, no tinkering needed
My kids love this game and it runs great on linux with all defaults.
About 5-10 FPS slower than on my windows boot
Hoping for performance updates soon from the Devs or RTX 30 series to actually be in stock
On Windows or Linux it's pretty much around 30FPS or worse for any resolution over 1080 at medium or higher without newest GPUs or the ability to use DLSS. (In it's current state)
v2.7 Works Great with default run, workshop and AI generation even works!
Only issues I ran into (and may be a pop issue) is it constantly told me the steam app was not responding until the game fully loaded. I just ignored it (like I have with other games) and it went away and game ran as expected after 15-30 seconds for everything to load. Once at in game main menu, no issues.
Launcher still has the weird shading box over it, best to just do the no launcher option %command% /nolauncher
and just ignore that whole situation
Run excellent, even with mods I have no issues.
Once and awhile, while trying to sleep & save it will crash but not convinced this is a Proton issue.
Ran through the first hour (mostly tutorial). Runs great, I have most stuff maxed out and run a 3840x1600 monitor, was averaging 88 FPS. Some minor glitches in the character textures (getting near the well of souls duplicated character briefly). Super excited to beat this game again, remastered, and on linux this time!
Just worked, no tinkering needed
Played through whole game without any issues.
I installed the 200+ PFS and Slow Loading Texture mods and it resolved all my performance issues.
Only minor startup annoyance, otherwise runs flawless
Worked in every scenario I tried, only issue I ran into is at launch (with or without launcher) is it claims "app not responding" I just ignored it and waited like 10-15 seconds after that message and the game started and the message went away. No issues after in game.
Just works! Not tinkering needed
Kids love making solar systems in this game... simulator?
Add this to launch options -w 1920 -h 1080, then switch to whatever supported resolution works best/available in game settings. Couldn't get to launch until I added that option.
I tried a few other versions, it launched on most (including current 6.3-8) but was most stable on 5.0-10. My main issue seemed to be the initial resolution at launch, after I worked that out every seemed to work.
Resolved by changing launch options to PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Fails to exit the game with esync off, but wouldn't call it significant
No more ESYNC issues using zen kernel (or any fsync enabled kernel) and performance is now 60 FPS 4K w/ Med/High mixed settings
Still freezes when you try to exit from title screen, have to force close. But that's only a minor issue
If your card can handle it, set unlimited draw distance if you have odd stuttering here and there.
6.5-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Ran at 80+ FPS with settings mostly maxed, but had stuttering issues. Tried all kinds of settings (and proton versions), but eventually changing draw distance to unlimited made it run fairly smoothly.
Running Linux-Zen so I don't have to disable ESYNC or anything like that (had those issues initially in ToCS III). GE 6.5-2 does have issues closing the game, have to force close when I'm done, but not affecting anything having to do that (not sure if the other proton versions did as well)
Still testing options, started experiencing crashes. Disabled ESYNC to fix, but still getting random hang ups/crashes but nothing in logs to suggest why
On 6.5-2 GE I did notice an odd green artifact in the initial village at the center. I haven't noticed any other oddities yet.
Crashes at random intervals even with ESYNC disabled, still troubleshooting and will post updates as I try fixes
Draw Distance at unlimited fixed some stuttering issues I had initially (I'm running at 3840x1600 Ultrawide with 6800XT, so may be unique to me).
Random Crashes (even after ESYNC Disable) may also be due to my 6800XT and support not being fully flushed out on Linux

One issue noticed in the beginning town at the center. Green line running randomly from center piece out through bridge. Haven't noticed anything else yet.
Stuttering/Stability issues are now gone with 1.1 Update. Had to clear my mesa shader cache (rm -rf ~/.cache/mesa_shader_cache/) and now the game runs very smooth.
Still have ESYNC disabled, getting 80+ FPS (3840x1600) mostly maxed out settings
