After configuring ALVR ran on quest 3 with no noticable issues.

Slight lag when moving head in menu, fixed when in game
VR using Oculus Quest 2 with ALVR over USB

This game is working perfect with the Valve Index Headset now.
I am using the Valve Index headset. This game plays similar to how the PSVR2 runs it. I could not play this game at all in 2023.

PRESSURE_VESSEL_FILESYSTEMS_RW=$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/wivrn_comp_ipc %command%
I use WiVRn/OpenComposite, bypassing SteamVR entirely.

Seems like downgrading the game is not required anymore.

Working great again! Missed playing it.

It's working again with SteamVR Beta 2.5.1. Not sure if that's due to a fix in SteamVR or in Pistol Whip itself. Regardless it now runs perfectly once more.

Doesn't work with Steam VR 2.3.1 (beta) and Proton experimental-8.0-20240111c
Game used to work (you can downgrade, how to in the other comments), hopefully gets fixed when the issues with OpenXR and/or the plugins on Linux get fixed.
had to downgrade to an earlier version of the game xdg-open steam://open/console download_depot 1079800 1079801 5098729832460671664 then replace all the files in your pistol whip installation folder with the depot files and to make it easier to downgrade in the future "git init;git add *; git commit -m'lastworking version' " in the pistol whip folder

The game starts up with graphics issues with the Valve Index. You can not play the game.
I tried Proton 5 and 6 (sometimes works for VR games.) and that did not fix anything.
Ran @120hz out of the box with no issues!
New update broke it
Now GE doesn't work
Only works on GE8-2, if not then you'll crash at the logo screen. It plays great when you get it working.

Played with Valve Index
SteamVR crash at the Cloudhead Games logo
Unplayable since the latest update on 29 November. Crashes SteamVR during start with an error -203. No known fix.
Doesnt display on headset when started, audio and image appears on monitor
cant play
Game worked flawlessly prior to recent holiday update; now borked
gamemoderun %command%
Tried running Proton 7.0-5, Hotfix, and Experimental. Nothing shows up now in the Valve Index HMD and on the monitor you see a few colors and some movement to the beat of the music, but can't make out what it might be. Music starts playing as normal. There is no menu or any ability to navigate.
Worked fine but new update breaks the game
Was working fine with steam index but new update breaks the game Game screen only draws to monitor and headset stays blank
Feels like native
Works perfect.
HTC Vive.
Works only with proton 5.13-6
Runs exactly as expected
Ran at less than 60fps initially.
I have two 4k monitors hooked up to my computer, and it displays a desktop mirror of the game. Switching the monitor the mirror opens on to low resolution resolves the issue.
Seems to crash ~25% of the time during scene change, crashes reliably in the settings menu.
Runs just as good as Windows. No issues.

works excellent ootb
Ran out of the box on my setup w/Valve Index. No tinkering, no tweaks.
Win 7 users are experiencing the same issues linx players are, Changing Windows versions will not be required once Win 7 support is fixed
Running winecfg and setting the windows version to Windows 10 Makes this game run perfectly
WINEPREFIX=/mnt/storage/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1079800/pfx/ winecfg
Like ITGaz mentioned, set prefix to windows 10, I used winetricks for that:
WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1079800/pfx WINE=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ 4.11/dist/bin/wine64 winetricks win10
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a 3rd person view up for mixed reality streaming. LIV doesn't work on Linux.
Like ITGaz mentioned, you have to set Windows version to Windows 10
WINEPREFIX=$STEAM/compatdata/1079800/pfx $PROTON/dist/bin/wine64 winecfg Windows version: Windows 10
Runs perfectly after using the workaround ITGaz mentions with using windows 10 mode
To fix display only on the left eye change the game's prefix to windows 10 compatibility
WINEPREFIX=$STEAM/compatdata/1079800/pfx $PROTON/dist/bin/wine64 winecfg
Rare stuttering not encountered in other VR games on this hardware, or when running Pistol Whip on Windows with less powerful GPU.
Game does not render properly. Both eyes are displaying on the left lens.
Doesn't display correctly in VR
Eyes squished to the left, not aligned with real eyes.

Game does not render properly
The game starts and you can kinda see the menu. However the game does not render properly and the view port that should be in front of your eyes displaying the world is rotated on the horizontal axis towards you by about 70 degrees. Horrible to look at.
