Slight lag at start of missions, does not happen under Windows
Occasionally locks PC up completely. I've not encountered this since switching to Glorious Eggroll but it was quite rare so might not be resolved.
Using Proton, game crashes on startup if system settings (e.g. screen resolution) are edited. Workaround is to delete My Games/EDF5/SAVE_DATA/[user]/SYSTEM
folder and then set resolution again each time the game is launched.
Switching to Glorious Eggroll resolves this.
It works as well as on Windows - there are crashes and disconnects, but an identical experience to Windows.
The issues I had with Proton might be uncommon, they're not common in other reports. But switching to Glorious Eggroll seems to have the game working perfectly. EDF!

Weird artifiacts in the distance sometimes
Game will occasionally crash on start, or randomly in game.
Works fine. will sometimes just crash on multiplayer screen and not let you join. issue exists on windows as well.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winmm.dll=n,b" %command%
install vcrun2019: protontricks 1007040 vcrun2019
Online multiplayer worked out of the box
local multiplayer worked out of the box
It just works out of the box!

Fix for black screen when tabbing out:
Alt + Tab causes screen to go black
Multiplayer works without issue
Running xorg you can press alt + f2 and then r to reload the display manager. This will allow you to tab back into the game and not have a black screen. It does appear that the game window gets shifted down the distance of your top bar however.
Worked fine with both traditional couch co-op (2 controllers) as well as Steam Remote Play Together with a friend who doesn't own the game
Game turns black on alt-tabbing

I didn't change a single setting. Runs perfectly on the Steam Deck. I'd put more here but I don't know what to say.

Isn't running after installing new, experimental, older, and GE versions of proton. I even rechecked my drivers.
This game doesn't run properly with any version of Proton from my cursory search as it gets a page fault everytime the game loads into a mission.

works better on linux!
default proton experimental, works out of the box with MUCH less fps drops compared to win11, unfortunately no way of installing mods yet

Downgrade your linux kernel to a 6.3.x version until the bug in regards to AMD GPUs are fixed. This is a warning for all games.
This is an update to my previous report. Due to an issue in the 6.4.x versions of the Linux kernels, AMD GPUs are often restricted in their performance which can cause significant FPS drops throughout the entire play session. Initially I assumed this was an EDF 5 only problem, as it was the only game where I had FPS drop by half (60 to ~25-30). However after playing around in Baldur's Gate 3, it seems to be a wider issue. For my system personally it only occurs some time after my PC has started, but it will eventually occur and cause me to restart it. The best course of action is just to downgrade to a 6.3.x version of the kernel until it the bug is fixed.
I've played co-op and we had no issues a part from some interesting translations of the UI that made it confusing in regards to how to actually start the match.

Games is fun, when it isn't slogging mysteriously.
On the first few play sessions it had a consistent 60 fps, but recently it has begun to slow down to sub 30 fps at times, which is totally incongruent with my hardware.
When I reinstall it the FPS is fixed for the first play session or few, but then it is ruined on the second one I believe. Another reporter mention the pre-caching causing slowness.
Basically works out of the box
Sometimes after Alt+Tabbing I can't alt+tab back to the game. The game itself still runs and all inputs can be processed (with appropriate feedbacks and result) but the game itself doesn't show any video at all. The only fix is restarting the game
Alt-Tab sometimes leads to black screen

Originally was using the latest Proton version with no issues, but there appears to have been a regression recently at the time of writing. Now, after an inconsistent amount of time (sometimes immediately after entering a mission after launching the game, other times as long as 30 minutes after launch), game performance will begin to gradually deteriorate, dramatically reducing frame rate.
This affects the speed of the game and control of the camera, and will persist until the game process is terminated.
Proton version 7.0-4 does not have this issue, nor any other noticable faults.
40hz/40fps cap
Works out of the box with no problems
Runs flawlessly, but Steam Controller profile might need to be disabled for certain configurations
Xbox Series X controller did not function correctly in wireless mode (BT or dongle), controller had to be connected via USB
Enabled 40Hz refresh rates and 40fps limiter
To save our mother Earth from any aliens on Deck, you'll have plenty of options. Out of the box, performance is great and while there is a verification warning about small text, rendering of this seems to have cleaned up significantly in the latest OS updates. And now with 40Hz support available in the stable channel, you'll get some nice solid performance out of the game even while you're being chased down by hordes of giant alien invaders!
For people with smaller hands, customizing the back grip buttons can help a lot by moving some of the functions from the top of the console to the back instead.

It Just Werks
I don't know if it's the updated GPU (Radeon RX 6600), bumping up my CPU from 3.50Ghz to 3.90Ghz, or if simply the latest version of Proton (7.0-1) did the trick but the game now runs flawlessly with no need to change any settings in Proton. The game didn't suffer any visual hiccups compared to previous attempts and multiplayer worked as well. One of the fixes for the previous game in the series required a dxvk.conf file to be made to remove vsync and I suspect that previous versions of Proton might have needed that as well but as of now, you don't need to create this file to disable vsync to get it running.
Game is running excellent, works out of the box
Minor mouse cursor stops moving for just a milli second sometimes
Works out of the box. Control layout defaults to gamepad and the game features full controller support. Framerates varies depending on scenes, mostly between 40-60 fps.
Game seems to be alot smoother in Linux than on Windows
Gameplay video: https://youtu.be/B3XtWawyJEo I only convered the single player aspect on the video but later on I tried playing online and it seems to work fine.

Created dxvk.conf in the game's directory and added dxgi.syncInteral=0 to it
On my first couple of launches of the game, I needed to wait for some noise before clicking to skip through the developer splash screen. If I didn't, the game would crash.
Ran flawlessly with no changes required. Missions loading near instantly compared to Windows which was taking a good 30 secs.

proton-6.16-GE-1 custom GloriousEggroll
prtoton ge custom
If you run it with proton 6.3-6 the game pad is not detected
On the base game directory, add a text file called dxvk.conf, containing a single line: dxgi.syncInterval = 0

Game works really well with a supported version of proton and by turning off v-sync with a dxvk.conf file.
Proton GloriousEggroll 6.5-GE-2 https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.5-GE-2
Turning off v-sync with dxvk massively improved performance. https://steamcommunity.com/app/410320/discussions/0/1747898397219502826/ explains the process.
Short version. Go to base game directory, create a text file called dxvk.conf
. Add this line to the file dxgi.syncInterval = 0
. Save the file. You're now good to go, no need for launch flags.
It seems like certain combinations of proton versions and likely Nvidia cards leads to crashes when there's too much going on. I got crashes with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
on Proton 6.3-2.
5.13-6 works with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
, but has bad (but consistent) frame rates.
Found out the quick menu now works properly as well!
Quick note for people new to playing this game with Proton. I've found that when the game boots I get a black screen until I click the mouse or press a keyboard button. After that it loads the normal splash screens.
Runs as well as native since Proton 6.3
6.3 has resolved whatever issue I had that severely hampered my framerate, and now all but the heaviest missions stay at 60. Just as on Windows.
Seems to just work.
No issues whatsoever. Fast load times, no stutter, no glitches, no crashes.
Only played single player, though.
Perfect port!
Adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% fixed the constant menu and game stuttering, everything else just worked
Many people suggested also using PROTON_NO_ESYNC, but I found it ran fine without that flag
The reflective surfaces in a level with rain look metallic red. I am fairly certain it's supposed to be transparent, based on how strange it looks. Other than that, I haven't seen any issues.
Levels loaded in a bit slow, but once all the textures were loaded everything ran fine, even in massive battles

use "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%".
Steam Shader Pre-caching make FPS drops.
Low FPS in initial menus and headquarters, no problem in missions. D-pad shortcut chat don't work in headquarters.
"Playable," needs more work.
On Windows, I get 60 fps in most missions. With Proton, I get stuck in the 30s or worse.
Can't select messages from the chat shortcut wheel.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11 is giving worse performance.
Tried GE 5.8 Proton, game won't make it past the initial "Now Loading" screen.
Works fine ootb

I also used RADV_PERFTEST=aco for my AMD card just in case there were performance hitches. I'm unsure if this is necessary. Altogether, the game runs perfectly.
