Everything worked as far as I can tell. Played two runs, about 60 turns/days total.
Game launches, but all the text is missing
No flag helped
It's playable, but the lack of audio in cutscenes is a bit annoying
No audio in cutscenes. None of the previously mentioned tricks helped.
On protons prior to 5.13, the game wouldn't go back to full screen after alt-tabbing. After 5.13, this seems to be working.
Crashes on start, after intro videos

1 FPS. No tweak helped.
The game seems to work, but at 1 FPS. I tried various proton versions and flags, but nothing helped.
The game works, but its play area is too small. It's probably no worse than on Windows, but I don't think I can play it like that
The window is 640x480, which on my 2K screen is the size of a postage stamp.
The game is in full-screen only
After setting PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
works great.
Doesn't start at all. Some kind of dead loop according to logs.
Black screen after loading screen
There is music playing, but game doesn't respond to commands. If I task switch back and into the app, it shows graphical corruption.
I tried various versions of proton and a few flags, but nothing changed much.
Doesn't work without PROTON_USE_WINED3D
. After launch, I also had to set to full-screen to get good results.
Only started working after I set launch command to: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Runs out of the box. A bit slower than on Window, some frame skips.
Steams shows it as running, but there is no game window and STOP does nothing
If I run the game directly, using wine "/home/user/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Dragon Cliff/game.exe"
, the game starts.
It seems something is wrong with the proton wrapper itself for this game. I tried the default 3.x, 4.x and 5.x protons, and they all act the same. Other proton games work, so I know it's not systemic.
No videos and some stability issues. But seems fully playable.
There were no videos (intro video), even with Proton GE
Full screen was a bit flaky with borderless, but seemed fine with normal full screen.
The game crashed the first time it tried to show a tutorial. It worked afterwards.
Works with "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%". The sound is crackling a bit.
Needed to set PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 to get it working.
I've set startup to WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
to fix the sound issues, and added "bBackgroundMouse=1" to Fallout4.ini to fix the mouse.
With those 2 tweaks, the game is fully playable. Graphics is smooth and task-switching works perfectly.
There are only two minor issues.
First, audio occasionally has very slight popping.
Second, mouse-look occasionally gets stuck inside a rectangle, preventing me from turning beyond about 90 degrees range. I can get it "unstuck" by switching between cursor and freelook mode (eg. open and close Pip Boy) several times while moving the mouse around.
Almost Gold rating.
Crashes on start.

After running "WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/44690/pfx winetricks" and installing mfc42, the game would start. But it would run so slowly, it was unplayable.
Doesn't show anything, crashes. No tweak helps.

Without mf-install, I was able to run "prologue", but "new game" would freeze when it was time to start the intro cinematic.
The only way to get intro working was the latest Proton (5.13) plus mf-install script. It wouldn't work with any of the older Proton versions, with or without mf-install.
The game feels a bit sluggish at times, especially during cutscenes, but it's playable.
Switched to older Proton version - 5
On newer Protons, mouse is out of sync with the screen on 2K screens. There is some problem with resolution detection. The game is unplayable.
I reverted to Proton 5 and now it works.
The game wouldn't start with the default proton 5.x. Had to switch to 4, then it installed some kind of missing dependency and started working.
Works perfectly with Proton
Native linux version screws up my display settings. Proton version works perfectly.
Works in window with default settings. Works in full screen after switching proton version to 4.2-9.
Just a black screen. I can hear music and menu actions, but no picture.
I wanted Windows version because Linux version doesn't scale nicely to 2K
Help screen gets its text a bit corrupted. Text in general is a bit blurry and hard to read.
"Native" version is not native at all. It's also based on Wine. AND it didn't work on my PC (some kind of wine corruption). I had better luck with Proton.
Proton version had an issue wherein it kept asking me for CD key. I tried running a .bat file that came with game, but it didn't work. What worked was extracting the registry stuff into a .reg file and importing that reg file directly by running protontricks 215930 regedit
.
Everything worked perfectly
Overriding my brevious "broken" report. Turns out the game tries to install some DirectX version when you first install it, and this gets stuck. I killed the installer using process manager, and the game started working.
Not sure if this is due to game or Steam in general, so I'm not reporting it.
Sound is crackling, but it's not too bad. Playable.
Audio is crackling all the time. No tweak helped.
Started working after setting "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" as command.
Works well enough in windowed mode on 2K resolution. Full screen might work in HD, but I haven't tried.
Full screen was cut off to 4:3 ratio on 2K resolution.
When I tried to change to windowed mode, the game would crash on Proton 5+. It only would only work in windowed mode on Proton 4.11. That solved the cutting off issue, but playing in the window mode is less than ideal.
On Proton 5.x, the game would crash when trying to switch to windowed mode.
The game runs a bit jerky during level loading, but that could due to the game itself. "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" seems to help a bit.
The game seems to work fine at first, but when entering a dungeon, I get "loading failed at step 3" error and the dungeon doesn't render correctly. I tried switching Windows version and other tweaks, but nothing helped.
Crashes on startup
Tried a few flags. PROTON_USE_WINED3D
changed the way it crashes a bit, but it still crashed.
Choppy cutscenes
Cutscenes started working after installing this: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install
WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/651500/pfx ./mf-install.sh
However, they played choppily, lots of frame skips.
Works after setting PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%. Cut sceenes didn't work, but that could have been due to other issues.
Works well with Proton Experimental, freezes on Proton Stable
Running mf-install makes videos work on proton stable, but the game still freezes after the bomb goes off.
Works after applying the Media Foundation install, as explained here: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install
I only got a black screen without PROTON_USE_WINED3D
Fonts are a bit glitchy, but readable.
For some reason, the game starts with empty key bindings. Before you start the game, you need to go to keyboard settings in the launcher and add key bindings. Don't try to resize the tool, as it will glitch out.
The game won't start without this
WINEPREFIX=/home/user/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/470090/pfx ./mf-install.sh
The gameplay works fine, but without text it's kind of pointless.
The font that's used in all dialogues and computer screens is borked. You can't really follow the plot without it.
Logs show something like: fixme:font:get_name_record_codepage encoding 20 not handled, platform 1
I presume some font needs to be installed, but I don't know which.
No cinematics
Cinematics didn't work.
Needed to install media foundation with:
WINEPREFIX=/home/user/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/496400/pfx ./mf-install.sh
The game failed to install some "Unity prerequisites" package, but that didn't seem to make a difference.
Mouse in general is somewhat buggy. Sometimes it gets stuck in a "freelook mode" when it's supposed to be a cursor (eg. on a clickable map). Other times, freelook goes super sensitive and I have to restart to make the game playable again. Not sure how much of this is just due to the game itself, though.
Crashes on start unless "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" is set in launch settings. Afterwards, everything seems fine.
Works great, after you resize the terminal.png image
As people have said, you need to resize ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/SanctuaryRPG - Black Edition/Terminal/720p/terminal.png
to get good results in full screen.
It's important to disable "blending" and similar effects when resizing, otherwise everything comes out blurry.
Here's my version, resized to work great on 2K desktop: https://mega.nz/file/zFoFxIrD#CpfQNkCRbIHLDg5Iy6MLPbVNZRYZIv1WCikRmdZhEn0
This game used to work 6 months ago, when I played it with mf-install
. I tried to run it again now, and all I could get was a black screen. No combination of Proton runtimes and flags helped. It was only after I reinstalled the game that everything started working again out of the box.
For those getting a black screen, try deleting the game and installing it again. Beware though, I seem to have lost all my saves (not sure if Steam sync was enabled, though).
The game had glitchy audio, which seems was leading to crashes every 15-ish minutes. With NO_ESYNC
, audio is fine and there are no more crashes (so far).
PROTON_NO_ESYNC
seems to fix it
PROTON_NO_ESYNC
seems to resolve (or at least reduce) crashes
The game doesn't render. Everything is white.
I tried PROTON_USE_WINED3D
and multiple Proton versions, but nothing helped. I presume it's due to AMD GPU.
No audio, graphical glitches in full screen mode. The game unpacked incorrectly, I had to go to the game directory (/steamapps/common/Speakerman/) and move all the files from Speakerman subdir into the main directory.
No audio and borked full screen
Audio doesn't work
In fullscreen, edges beyond 4:3 are corrupted
Game started working after setting PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Game crashes when you try to shoot at things.

I've seen one report of this on Steam, so it seems it's a buggy game exacerbated by Wine, maybe.
After the older proton setup, everything seems to be working. I mean, the game is still buggy, but just as buggy as on Windows.
With proton 4.11.x and 5.x, the game kept crashing with System.InvalidOperationException: Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute.
.
The trick was to revert to proton 4.2.9. Then to install dotnet40
and xna40
:
protontricks 233700 dotnet40
protontricks 233700 xna40
My guess is that the game is coded sloppily and makes threading mistakes that this old version of .NET allows, but newer ones (that come bundled with newer protons) forbid.
Works perfectly after setting PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%. Didn't try gamepad.
The game crashes using a native runtime, but runs fine on Proton 5+, with some audio and desync issues.
Audio is crackling and cutsceenes fall out of sync

Game crashes when accessing settings or saving
Crash on startup
It's the same symptoms discussed here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/445190/discussions/3/1318836262655560659/?l=russian&ctp=2
I am not sure if this is Proton issue or the game just doesn't like my computer. Either way, I couldn't get it to work.
Crashes initially, works after adding "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%". Didn't notice the speed problem others have reported.
Crashes on start. "System.MemberAccessException: Object is busy and cannot state allow this operation [GDI+ status: ObjectBusy]". Nothing I tried helped.
