Native version is awful, use Proton instead
Game ran OOTB without issues at a steady 60 FPS, use Gamemode or you might run into slight frame drops here and there
The demo ran OOTB with no issues
Solid 60 FPS on a RX580, framerate never dropped even when things were getting hectic
If you somehow don't have any issues with this game, it's pretty good
Without MF utils, most billboards will be blank
Game ran mostly fine on GE and on official Proton, but after installing MF utils the game would run at single digit framerates (I'm playing on a Ryzen 7 2700 with a RX580)
Game crashed about 4 times in less than an hour
Unfortunately for me, everything I've tried resulted in either decent framerates but being stuck as trailers wouldn't play, or being able to play trailers.... at 5 FPS on Low settings
If you can stand the awful performance and issues, then it's an enjoyable game.
The native version has severe artifacting, running the game on Proton fixes this.
Both native versions and Proton version ran at around half the FPS than the native Windows version. The game runs at 20 FPS on 5x speed in 1444 and will run below 10 FPS on 5x speed in the latter half of the game.
The game will crash upon entering some console commands (like changing a country's religion). Sometimes the game will crash randomly (though it's only happened to me twice in 250+ hours of game time.
Using PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command% as a launch option fixed it
Framerate will dip into the 40s or lower in large areas
The game crashed a few times during one specific cutscene
Sometimes when opening the map the camera will break and will not follow the cursor, making fast travelling to some places impossible. This can be easily fixed by quiting to the main menu and reloading your save.
Uplay wouldn't install and would crash immediatly upon starting the game, I had to fight with the Uplay installer for a bit until it eventually decided to install properly. Don't forget to disable the Uplay overlay as it crashes the game and really isn't that useful.
Ran OOTB with no issues
Use D9VK for better performance, all in all it ran great (better than it did on Windows on the same computer), however do note that the last mission is broken, this isn't a Linux issue as it also happens on Windows, but you will need to cap your framerate at 30 or lower for one QTE.
Overall a near-native experience save for the performance issues. If your hardware is good enough though this shouldn't be much of an issue.
The main menu is very laggy, this is apparently also an issue on Windows.
Performance is significantly lower than on Windows, the game has a hard time keeping a smooth 60 FPS in areas that ran well above 80 or more.
If you're using an AZERTY keyboard, you're gonna have a bad time.
Holding Ctrl to change key bindings did not work, and the game uses WQSD by default, changing my default keyboard layout did not help. On top of that controllers are not supported.
All in all a near-native experience, a very solid experience using Proton
Pretty bad screen tearing, could be driver-related since this doesn't happen in other games
Alt-Tabbing out and back into the game doesn't work, the screen turns black
Framerate will dip into the 30s/40s on maps with cockroaches and then go back to a steady 60-120FPS, could just be an issue with the game itself
Importing photos into the gallery works but the game will Alt-Tab out and break
Assuming you don't have to deal with the issues listed in this report, then the game runs like native, performance is pretty good.
Ground textures are very flickery, this appears to be an issue limited to AMD GPUs since I didn't have issues running the game on a 1660ti
Alt-Tabbing will set the game to Windowed mode, sometimes the pause menu freezes and will not allow you to resume the game, forcing you to quit and restart.
As stated in other reports, looking around with the mouse can be pretty laggy, this can be solved by either Alt-Tabbing out and into the game, or by lowering your mouse's polling rate.
The game locked up a few times
Ran out of the box and performance was solid
The game runs at anywhere from 85 to 160 FPS on an RX580, with no issues, it almost feels like a native Linux title
winetricks 351990 dotnet452
When I bought the game a year and a half ago, getting Riff Racer to run required some serious tinkering, I originally got it to work by installing Dotnet452, using a 32-bit Wine prefix and using D9VK otherwise it would not launch, and due to a lack of reports it took me a while to get this game to run, now it's a lot easier and much more streamlined
Ran out of the box with no issues
Haven't played the game for too long but it launches, play well and it runs at a solid 60 without drops or stuttering, pretty much like a native Linux title
Native Linux version runs badly, using Proton 5.0.9, the game ran perfectly OOTB
Used to run badly, now it runs like native
I got the game when I purchased the Shadow Warrior collection a while back, back then the game would have severe issues making it pretty much unplayable, that is, if you got to the main menu to begin with, now it runs OOTB like it would on WIndows, it's just one of those games that showcase just how far Proton has come in the last 2 years, going from a broken, unplayable mess to an almost-native experience
Runs well out of the box but needs tweaks
I had to check the integrity of game files because the majority of textures in Kamurocho were missing
The game would always crash when I entered the Millenium Tower in chapter 1, I installed SilentPatch and I haven't had a single crash since
Media Foundation codecs are required or the game will freeze before reaching the main menu
Some cutscenes will play the wrong audio
The game will crash if you catch a turtle while river fishing, preventing you from reaching 100% completion the legit way
