It's so refreshing to see a developer care so much about Proton compatibility.
Arguably a native Linux game
It is so refreshing to see the developer put so much care in Steam Deck compatibility. Even the touch screen has support which is awesome.
Solid native game, no problems so far.
Worked flawlessly with my friend who plays on Windows 10.
Windows: Refuses to load with Ultra graphics. Requires external DLL libraries (not guaranteed to load!) and the modification of a registry entry as well as the compatibility file in the game's install folder!
Linux: Fucking works
Now you tell me this isn't a good time.
Install dotnet48 and faudio
The music will not play if you do not install both dotnet48 and faudio through winetricks.
When launching the game, you will get a pop-up saying that the application could not be launched. Click "No" on the dialog and the game should continue as normal.
If you're using SteamTinkerLaunch, note that installing dotnet48 through Steam first-run setup does not work. You need to do it through winetricks.
I mean, it's DOOM...
Broken with GE-Proton9-11. Use the base Proton 9.0 instead.
Yeah it works. The re-release is pretty much just makeup on a 60-year old man but it's still DOOM and it runs as expected.
Sometimes, the loading screen from initial launch may take a little longer than anticipated. Otherwise, the game works well though.
Use Luxtorpeda so you can launch this game using the native Linux build of the source engine. Requires Source SDK 2013 Singleplayer and Steam Linux Runtime to be installed through steam, though.
"Can't handle DX12" my ass
Here's the related GitHub issue on Valve's Proton issue tracker: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8300
Use winetricks to instal VC++ 2022 and VKD3D, otherwise the game may refuse to boot with a VC++ or DX12 error.
Winetricks using Steam Tinker Launch. Installed vcrun2022
and vkd3d
.
Optimization is rather garbage and the video quality can't tell what graphics card you are using. But other than that it's fine.
Shouldn't have taken me this long to get this game to work.
Awesomem stuff. Demo save data doesn't immediately carry over though (you have to move it yourself)
Demo saves are not immediately moved over due to the main game and demo being housed in different Proton prefixes by default. You can move the save data over from the prefix's %APPDATA%. I made a Steam guide on more details here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3346646813
Can't wait to spend the next 100 hours of my life on this video game!
This version of the game is kind of like Doki Doki Literature Club Plus where it uses a fake OS to allow manipulation of game files. Very happy this is now properly supported on Linux and Steam Deck.
Newer versions of proton do not work at all with this game. Proton 7.0 is the last version that will work. Even tested with GE 7-55, and that one doesn't work either.
It's ok
This game is locked to 60 FPS. I have the OLED, so I changed the screen's refresh rate in the performance settings in quick settings.
Ubisoft Connect can lick my taint
First the game was windowed. I changed it to fullscreen in forced 1080p (internal) and it didn't fit the scree. Rebooting then setting it back to fullscreen seems to have worked, though I can't really reproduce the issue anymore.
If you use GE-Proton, the game will not recognize Steam Input (i.e. your Steam Deck)
Steam Cloud not supported. Ubisoft Connect cloud sync doesn't seem to work either.
The SteamOS beta does not play well with this game. Stick to stable.
Ubisoft servers for this game are offline.
Hellish Red Nightmare
Steam Tinker Launch
Completely unplayable. The main menu is a jarbled mess of misplaced sprites and red text. I've tried so many things from switching Proton versions and trying out the various Proton and DXVK suggestions posted in previous reports. Unfortunately, nothing as worked. Such a shame, this game is such peak. If anyone else can get it working, please post a report soon!
Good, but bogged down by bugs in recent update
Using GE-Proton with this game causes severe audio crackling. Switch to base Proton and this issue should be resolved.
The Seekers of the Storm DLC came with noticeable performance degredations not present in the previous state of the game. I am still unsure if this is inherently a problem with the game or if it's a Proton bug.
The crackling experienced in this game right now makes it completely unplayable. I am told it's part of the game's current FPS-related issues. I play on a 72hz FreeSync monitor, so this is probably part of the problem. I have tried running this game on both GE and standard Proton and still get the same issues. Forcing the FPS through Gamescope is also unhelpful.
The current patch this game runs on is atrocious.
My previous report on this game was marked as negative due to egregious FPS-related bugs and also incompatibilties with non-60Hz monitors. This has been resolved.
-vulkan
Using DirectX 12 with this game along with V-Sync will cause an unbearable video delay (~300ms). It is possible that variable refresh rate played a part in this. Forcing the game to launch with Vulkan solved this issue for me. I am using a 1080p 72Hz FreeSync display.
When opening a GUI, the game will free the mouse from capture, letting it roam other monitors or windows outside of Satisfactory. Sometimes this is not handled well when re-entering first-person perspective, as it is possible to click outside of Satisfactory when this happens.
Fine with mouse and keyboard, but kind of unplayable with controller due to some input bugs.
Steam Input seems to inconsistently nuke this game. Also, having more than one controller plugged in makes the game indecisive on what controller to actually listen to inputs for, regardless of the status of Steam Input.
Perfect
No issues on Steam Deck! The controller input bugs I've encountered on desktop linux are absent on the Steam Deck, and even playing with an externally connected controller has no problems.
The game runs at 60FPS, so you should cap your screen at that to save battery on the OLED.
Multiplayer in this game is just jank in general.
They removed the 2K Launcher in a patch introduced two days ago. The previous reports' launch arguments are now pretty much unnecessary with the exception of the additional env variables they might have used.
The native linux version of this game is still outdated and doesn't work with online multiplayer. You must force Proton.
Multiplayer will have a hard time with cross-platform, specific with Nintendo Switch players. Other than that, it's fantastic.
I used SteamTinkerLaunch to launch the playlunky launcher to get mods installed. Other than that everything works as intended.
The shadows can look really weird, dark, and blocky in the outside world (3D areas). It very much screams "proton bug" to me, though.
Controller was not properly detected on first launch. After restarting the game, this was no longer an issue. It might have something to do with needing to install the UE prerequisites on first launch?
We should all strive to be like Jot.

In my first report I said that shadows artifact and look blocky in the 3D-scape. This is untrue, oops. Simply restart the game after making any video effects.
We should all strive to be like Jot.
The experience you'll get will be just as bad as it would be on Windows. Likely worse. If you have this game in your library, I am sorry.
I still have no idea what exactly is needed. Here are the packages I guestimated were needed and made the game work: dxvk1102, d3dcompiler_47, d3dx10_43, d3dx10, d3dx10_42, d3dx10_43, d3dx9, vcrun2013, vcrun2015
This game has no fullscreen video option. You need to enter it with Alt + Enter. When you enter, it is recommended you fully restart the game so the UI can cope with the new screen size.
This game has no raw mouse input support. Your mouse cursor WILL escape while exploring in first person if you are using more than one monitor. Using gamescope will solve this issue.
Do not expect this game to run well at all. It is buggy, unfinished, and very obviously not made with Linux in mind at all. The fact that I had it running in Proton 7.0 at all as an experiment is but a blessing, yet the price I had to pay was being able to play the game.
Genesis of the Void died for this.
A relic of its time. Fullscreen crashes. Use a Steam Deck if you want the best experience.
Fullscreen does not work in this game. It works on Steam Deck (or Gamescope session) though.
