Appears to work fine, didn't notice any video missing compared to default Proton (probably later in game due to the tweak applied).
Proton-5.11-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Made Assets/Videos folder (</path/to/steamlib>/steamapps/common/AoEDE/Assets) unavailable, by renaming (or removing) it.
All Audio is missing using a default Proton version (currrently 5.0.9).
For the time being, removal of [GameDir]/Asset/Videos is necessary for the game sound to work. It will show a warning when starting, but will run afterwards.
Running on a non-gaming laptop at 720p ~30fps. Some drops happened between scenes (shaders?), but everything ran exceptionally well.
I ran this from an exFAT formatted 128GB microSD (with some tweaks done to allow execution), so performance would be probably better from internal disk in a machine that barely covers the minimum requirements. Gladly surprised on the fact two Steam Controllers (with in-game prompts) were supported out of the box in Duo mode. Looking forward to enjoy this game with my partner!
When you get it to load, the game runs great (got it running with Proton 5.13-2)
It's common for the game to incorrectly render character 3d models after a while playing (here's an example: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2300443066 ). No idea if it's my hardware or the game itself, but the game is perfectly playable even with these and restores correctly after simply reloading from the main menu.
It's common for the game to freeze my PC on first load (specially when compiling shaders), but after a while it loads normally. A couple of times, switching tty back and forth helps to force rendering the game window. From the second start on, the game loads just fine (may be related to my especific hardware).
As indicated by other users, after installation just replace EAC dlls (EasyAntiCheat_x86.dll & EasyAntiCheat_x64.dll) in the game EasyAntiCheat folder using the ones from Paladins. After this, the game is basically Platinum (ran in max settings at max available resolution with 0 problems), no bugs, no hiccups, all controllers supported (including multiplayer), all DLC (to date) working.
Previously, after following the old Paladins EAC replacement method the game worked flawlessly offline in any and all machines I tested it (I personally rated it Gold 6 months ago), but sadly after latest update (Janemba DLC, I think), EAC appears to have been updated to a version that doesn't recognize the old Paladins EAC dlls (an error message report "EasyAntiCheat_x86.dll" as missing if using this method) and using the default dlls (or even replacing with current latest Paladins ones) gives a "Fatal Error" message after the Goku banner.
As described in other posts, a similar procedure as to get RE2 running is needed. Just had to manually install mf through winetricks and then copied a Windows 7 mfplat.dll to the game folder using these commands:
WIN7LIBPATH="/path/to/win7libs/" STEAMAPPSPATH="/path/to/steamapps/" #replace with your own paths WINEPREFIX="$STEAMAPPSPATH/compatdata/601150/pfx/" winetricks mf cp "$WIN7LIBPATH/mfplat.dll" "$STEAMAPPSPATH/common/Devil May Cry 5/mfplat.dll" After that it works as good as native, Steam Controller and Big Picture included.
Resolution must be set to the maximux available (but it can be forced in the game properties to a lower one before starting the game)
game bug: mouse movement may unfocus character, but it can be easily repositioned
Menus may need mouse, but everything else works fine.
As indicated here: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Legacy_of_Kain:_Soul_Reaver_2 this game doesn't play nice with CPUs with more than one core (this can be evidenced by playback errors in dialogs and recurrent minimal freezes of a couple seconds in the early game). Luckily, processes can be easily be contained to one core in Linux, so adding the line "taskset -c 0 %command%" (without quotes) in "Set launch options..." solves these issues. After this, the game is practically Platinum.
Works great using Proton 4.11
Proton 4.11-13 has to be forced in order for the game to run. It will simply not start using Proton 5.0.9
Just as native. Tested with Steam Overlay and using a Steam Controller with Xbox bindings without any problem. Integrated perfectly to the desktop (using i3wm could be treated as any other window, including toggling fullscreen and moving to other workspaces).
As indicated in another report, following this guide > https://youtu.be/pcCJSm3IoMY < the game worked as good as native. Just had to tweak turn down graphical settings, but got playable framerates for less enemy dense areas consistently and just minor hiccups in other areas so far (note that I played on a laptop and my GPU is below the minimum specs).
Running on low settings due to hardware limitations, but getting playable framerates nonetheless. No need to configure anything, runs "out of the box".
While the "save room" bug persist, avoid this game. It makes Shibuya a nightmare to visit the shops (possible restarting the game 4 times).

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/4843 Potentially game-breaking bug if you're not aware of it (and very difficult to keep track of).
If you account for that and take precautions, is still a great game. But suspend and backup savegames often.
Just as native. No issues found, even with Big Picture Overlay enabled and active.
