After compiling the shaders the game played smooth (on max settings at 144+ fps for me). I Experienced only one crash trying to activate MangoHud which, anyways, worked for the hour and a half previous to the crash.
eval $( echo gamemoderun "%command%" | sed "s/Launcher\/LariLauncher.exe'.*/bin\/bg3_dx11.exe'/" )
After my first 2023 playthrough was completed, I changed the launch options to the ones you see listed, and gained a lot of performance over using the one I saw listed in previous reviews, as other users reported. The shorter one offers great performance.
After the full release the game runs with no extra launch options and Vulkan is working without crashes.
Runs amazingly straight out of the box
I've spent most of my 10 hours in game dead or in the re-deploy menu so I can't really tell much about the gameplay, but for the greatest part it runs at 1440p with all the settings maxed out between 120 and 140fps with an occasion ±10fps sometimes but never exceeding those limits.
I can't compare it to the Win experience as I didn't try it. I know there were reports of stuttering also there so, not sure.
I'm using the WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command% -NoStartupMovies as many other suggested. It solved an issue with very heavy stuttering I was experiencing in the very beginning. Now it stutters here and there, I mostly don't even notice it. Overall, a great experience, getting a constant 100+ fps with FSR enabled.
The game now runs beautifully and it's very smooth overall, after installing mesa-git and making sure it's all properly installed.
Crashes occur randomly but as i updated to the latest mesa-git it's way less frequent.
The bugs that come with the game. I had to write it.
I used to buy first the GOG version and run it in Lutris, with horrible results. The worst one being frying my R9 290X back in December.
I then updated my rig to what you see now and at first I was experiencing the same exact crashes (the screen freezes and all i see is colourful artefacts, leading to a manual reboot through console). I then updated to mesa-git and i saw just a tiny little improvement. As comrade Hebirura wrote, i got rid of all the AMDVLK packages, vulkan-radeon and so on (and used his launching options), before i realised i was missing lib32-mesa-git and i still had some lib32 packages from other drivers.
I fixed that (by making sure i don't have any 3rd party drivers, packages and that only mesa-git is installed in both regular and lib32 forms) and I finally saw the 5% performance difference that many are describing from the Win version. I would say that the overall experience is now comparable to the one I used to have in Windows. Hurrah. Great job!
I followed the GitHub topic and did what some user (don't remember the name, my bad, but all the credits go to her) and got it to run after using a vulkan driver trick i found (using AMDVLK drivers provided by AMD in an Ubuntu package)
It now runs super smooth, super fast in Ultra (with exception of the texture size. it just doesn't let me chose anything higher than Medium for the textures)
the minimum framerate was around 85, but it's in the average around 130fps or so.
Running great, melting my GPU regardless
The game runs great: with my GPU i'm on ultra settings or whatever they're called at 1440p and it runs between 80 and 110 fps. Though, it's melting my GPU a bit and whenever i try to launch it with the FSR arguments it won't launch. Other than that, a great experience
It now runs flawlessly.
I'm running it at 1440p on max settings and the very lowest I've seen has been 80fps with FSR enabled. It's regularly sitting between 90 and 120fps anyways. Great experience and EAC finally allows people to play it!
Butter smooth experience on both native and proton, except for the camera stutter bug, which wasn't there in my first hours of playing.
After around an hour of playing the framerate remains solid, but moving the camera results in the camera being stuttering, not the rest of the game at all. Even in the main menu the rendered background stutters while the rest remains smooth. Bizarre.
Decent performance given my hardware and the expected stuttering.
The game looks gorgeous and I was expecting worse performance, to be honest. It launched after install with no problem whatsoever (it actually didn't work from my HDD but straight away from the SSD). I'm playing (through a R9 290X) using high settings with exception for the blur off and the anti aliasing turned down one step. The game stutters a bit but it's not a shooter and it's a demo. No idea if I could bear it throughout a full campaign run, though. Anyways, seems like a nice game, looks beautiful and it's working well.
Launches fine but can't connect
After installing I launched it and it opened without any tweak. I set the initial options, registered my Apex account and since then it says it can't host a multiplayer session, and that's the only thing I see now, no other menus or options to change.
Game blocked by Anti Cheat
I actually wrote a mail to the devs, who kindly replied to me and said they added three anti cheat softwares, of which, they say, one is proprietary and the other two can't be disclosed. That's a hell of a lot of ACs!
The game freezes in the main menu after a few seconds
gamemoderun %command%
I can't pass through the main menu. Every time I run it, it freezes with no significant logging in the console either. It just hangs a minute before showing a dialog telling me it'll exit.
In order to run it, check a post called "Guide to playing Darktide Beta on Linux." on r/darktide
WINEESYNC=1 gamemoderun %
It runs slow according to my hardware. I am using FSR too and it's just running slow
The game can't be played until its end in its current state. Not because of any Proton bug, just because the heretical developers left such an amount of bugs that advancing can, and will, lead to game breaking situations and you'll get stuck somewhere and abandon it. Frustration aside, it's nice to see such a beautifully smooth experience out of the box and from day 1.
