Scrolling wasn't very smooth
Menu is fine, but crashes after less than 30 seconds in game
Also crashes with Proton-GE and with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
Must use launch command: PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=0 %command%
Recommended but not required to install the OpenGL wrapper: https://verokster.blogspot.com/2018/05/cossacks-american-conquest-gl-wrapper.html
Must use launch command: PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=0 %command%
- Recommended to install the OpenGL wrapper for a more pleasant experience with windowing/fullscreen and changing resolutions: https://verokster.blogspot.com/2018/05/cossacks-american-conquest-gl-wrapper.html
- In contrast with previous reports, audio works well and the game does not crash when setting a rally point
- CAVEAT: Did not test multiplayer - I'm not sure anyone plays this anymore
Occasional texture flickering
Game seems to run slightly slower; may need to lower graphics settings a tiny bit compared to running it on Windows
Throws up an error at launch about being unable to find Arma2.exe. There was nothing I could figure out to stop this, but it doesn't actually cause a problem.
OOTB, game is broken (missing Arma 2 campaign; and missing textures prevent loading save games). Arma 2 itself, OOTB, is also broken and much harder to get running. Follow the below steps to be able to play both Arma 2 and Arma 2: OA's campaigns:
- Install Arma 2 and Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead
- Copy the entire AddOns folder from Arma 2 over to Arma 2: OA's installation directory (this fixes the issue of not having access to A2 content from inside A2: OA)
- To fix the missing textures issue that prevents loading savegames, go to
%STEAMAPPS%/common/Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead/DLCsetup/0ACRlite/Common
and extract all the .xz files into the folder. Now copy all the non-.xz files to%STEAMAPPS%/common/Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead/AddOns
. If you have any other folders under DLCsetup, repeat this process. - Launch Arma 2: OA and hit Expansions in the menu. Enable anything that is disabled. You will be prompted to restart the game. After that, you should be good to go.

Bind Q (Lean Left) and E (Lean Right) to grips
Utterly broken on modern Proton
Worked fine in handheld mode OOTB for me
Issues only occurred when I tried to run the game with Deck connected to an external display. Crashes occurred the first time I tried launching on external display, and when I tried to run the graphics settings benchmarking tool. (To run on external display I changed the display resolution in the game's Steam Properties.)
Playing this game with Deck docked to external display may require minor tweaking, depending on your setup. However, once you do get it running, the game performs well even in 2K (not upscaled) resolution.
Game exits as soon as you press "Ready"
Everything in the menu worked fine up until that point
Works fine. Text is a bit small sometimes.
Very slow-paced game; feel free to bring down the screen refresh rate to 40Hz and turn down CPU and GPU.
It's all readable, but sometimes your eyes may strain.
- Launch command:
command=$(echo "%command%") && s="/proton waitforexitandrun '" && path="${command#*$s}" && path="$(dirname "$path")" && cd "$path" && %command%

Can't play with missing graphical elements
Missing textures, shown as big black and red boxes
7.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
GloriousEggroll's Proton-7.1-GE-2
Initializing new resolution required alt-tabbing out or restarting the game
Works great with Proton 4.11. As on Windows, online multiplayer requires GameRanger (untested).
If your screen goes black in the menu, move the game to a different virtual desktop from the one Steam is on.
TV color bars in GameSpeak menu
The "GameSpeak" option in the main menu doesn't work, but it's pointless and irrelevant. All cutscenes and gameplay worked for me on the latest Proton Experimental.
No change from previous report. Game menu works but boots you back into the game menu whenever you try to start/enter a game.
Plays fine once the launcher is out of the way
Very slow paced game; feel free to reduce to 40Hz and throttle the CPU and GPU.
Text is readable but small
The windowing behavior of Panzer Corps is very strange. I suggest you immediately press play when the launcher opens; don't try to click anything else. Once the game actually launches you should be fine, as Gamescope will hide the launcher window.
Can't play smoothly without alt-tabbing all the time
Need to alt-tab in and out of game to make progress through animations/cutscenes
HTC Vive. The missing text issue (noted in previous report) is now fixed. Performance issues remain.
Go to Display settings, enable 3D Acceleration, then change to Deck's native resolution (1280x800)
Steam overlay wouldn't show up initially, but it started working after a few seconds
Works far better than on Linux desktop
HTC Vive. Regression from previous test: the game doesn't even display in the headset now, and the mirror window on the desktop just shows a blank purple screen.
Game doesn't launch regardless of DX9 or DX11 start option
Starts minimized, but otherwise works perfectly out of the box
I found my desktop felt slow when the game launched minimized. I alt+tabbed to get into the game, and then changed the in-game resolution to my native resolution. After alt+tabbing back to my desktop, the slowness had disappeared.
In Tropico2.ini, set MouseControl=1 and SoftwareDevice=1
