Out of the box, I got a black screen (audio only). This was fixed by running the following:
protontricks 366270 d3dcompiler_46
Other reports recommend installing d3dcompiler_47
as well, but the game seems to work perfectly well without it (and, when I installed it anyway, it didn't seem to improve anything).
Note that the game's local multiplayer requires two controllers, because if one controller is plugged in then the game assumes it's for Player 1 (so it's not possible to control Player 1 with the keyboard and Player 2 with a single controller). This is a shortcoming of the game itself, rather than a Proton issue, as it was mentioned in a Steam forum post that predates the release of Proton.
The fact that the game runs at no more than 58 frames per second is documented on PC Gaming Wiki as an issue with the Steam version of the game, and is also, therefore, presumably unrelated to Proton.
Needed to use protontricks to install d3dcompiler46 and d3dcompiler47. It works perfectly. Used Proton Experimental 7.0-20230208 Flatpak community build.

You can hear audio and press buttons but no video
Black screen with sound.
Still unplayable through Proton.
Absolutely borked for right now. (To be fair, it was already borked on Windows). There is sound and the framerate/frametime counter is detecting something but nothing the player can see. This holds true with the default Proton profile and Proton Experimental. Any older build of Proton shows an "Assertion Error."
Can't launch; throws assertion error
Same as everyone else says. Runtime error and fails to open
Game will not open, shows error upon start and immediately exits.
Even if you ignore the start-up errors, only shows a black screen.

After ignoring the three errors, it launches a black screen. That's it.

Sound works, but there's no picture. Got a bunch of compiling errors at the beginning stating to check Visual Studio C++ for details.

Black screen with sound

On game start several errors are indicated - after pressing "Ignore" on all of them, game runs, but the screen is black. You can hear music in the background and input triggers menu sounds, but the game is unplayable. Tried using various PROTON_* variables, but it didn't work.
