Valve Index - works ootb
No tweaks added. Modding worked fine using QBeat: https://github.com/geefr/beatsaber-linux-goodies/tree/master/QBeat . DO NOT use the BeatDrop port from that author as they have largely abandoned it in favor of QBeat.
To install custom songs, simply run through that readme, download the BeatSaver Downloader mod and then you can add songs in game.
Game boots and loads missions, but frequent crashes make it unplayable.
This game crashed so many times that I just gave up trying to play.
I'm running this through 5.0.2, so it's possible that some kind of regression happened. I'm seeing a lot of positive reviews, so I'm not entirely sure what my issue is.
Cool game that is also very cheap. Would recommend getting this game on sale (I paid $2.50 for it).
I am on SteamVR beta. At first, on an older version of SteamVR, this game had some audio distortion and it really ruined the experience for me. However, after a few SteamVR updates, it works fine for me. Sound is perfect.
Works perfectly. Co-op'd the entire game with a friend.
Online play, including invasions, messages and cooperative play works perfectly.
After using the "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" launch option on Steam (no quotes), the game runs great. Before that, it would hang on load and crash. Framerate is great, and I'm running at high settings.
Some issues with this game, but overall lots of fun and works well
My Logitech Extreme 3D Pro was not mapped correctly. I had to manually go into the key bindings to set a few of the controls - many WERE set, but for some reason the axis' were wrong.
I have noticed that the game will mostly not let you "Finish" a mission, that is, you can play the mission to completion, (usually) land and click "Finish Mission". You are presented with a summary screen, and the "Finish" button on there just results in the game endlessly loading.
Sometimes, the game will crash. I have noticed it is usually in between loading when I move my joystick, mouse, or head in VR very quickly during these times.
VR works in this game via Proton! As far as I can tell, everything VR related IS supported and works flawlessly. I am currently playing with a Valve Index.
Use protontricks / winetricks to install dotnet40. Then use my (edited from a forum post on the IL-2 forums) bash script here: https://gist.github.com/kedodrill/12449d5d6e7ae5b00b206a9e56c94add - fill out the values and run it. Every time Proton or the game updates, you will have to re-run it.
In VR, there seem to some issues with rendering clouds and shadows on planes. Other Windows users also report this problem, so it may not be Proton specific.
You must use the edited bash script here: https://gist.github.com/kedodrill/12449d5d6e7ae5b00b206a9e56c94add in order to save your game.
This is specific to SteamVR / VR on Linux. This game is nearly unplayable in VR on Linux. It has serious issues keeping up. Other Windows users have reported low framerates in VR, so it could be the game - but SteamVR for Linux is still not feature-complete, and is still in beta, so I think it's fair to blame it on that. Plenty of other VR games that have significant performance issues on Linux.
I'm using a Valve Index in VR. The performance is abysmal. I've tried and tried to get this game running well, but have resorted to installing windows on a different hard drive and seeing how things go.
cd
into the game path and use the following to get the game to run: mv jsrsetup.exe jsrsetup.exe.bak && mv jetsetradio.exe jsrsetup.exe
. Played through the entire game.
Valve Index - Game launches and tries to initialize, but then turns to black screen.
I have added a GitHub issue report here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3326
The Tripwire logo music does play. I have tried all proton options, but nothing seems to be working. If anyone has any ideas please post to the GH issue! :)
Singleplayer works great
When alt-tabbing, game froze
Sometimes the game handles right and middle clicks weirdly, to where you have to double click to get the right input
Controller was not detected at launch and I had to restart the game a couple of times before it picked up. The controls were not mapped at all to any buttons on the gamepad (it's possible this is normal for this game).
Fun game that works best with Proton (on my system)
The native port and the proton version both have a similar issue that other reports mention - the binds are set incorrectly. Don't bother customizing them because they will be reset anyways. You will have to reset them to default each time you load the game in order to even use the controller.
The native port was entirely broken for me. The GUI mouse never loaded, buttons would not register, and the resolution could not be changed to my native @ 2560x1440.
Game boots and runs fine, random disconnects from servers makes play impossible
I had some crashes in this game, notably the cutscene where you first meet Luis it would crash until I finally got past it.
Sometimes mouse would appear to be "locked", and then update a few seconds later.
Annoying crashes, YMMV
Able to view all menus, but loading into a gamemode crashes the game.
The loading screen appears, but after a few seconds the game freezes and crashes to desktop.
Valve Index on Linux - this game works ootb with no issues
Awesome game that just works from install to play. I played 54 minutes according to Steam and everything worked great. No issues whatsoever.
Poor performance and frequent crashes made me refund this game. The audio crackling happened no matter what Proton version I used.
Also tried Proton 9
The crackling is very bad.
Constant stuttering and slowdowns
Crashed almost every 15 mins after getting outside the tutorial area.
Runs great, but small warning for Index controller owners
Possible sounds that play when a character does something important do not play. I'm not sure though, it could've been some other random noise OR the voice recording had some noise in it. It was very quiet.
I'm using a Valve Index and things are running great. Only issue is the bindings. While this game does have "official Index Controller bindings", they are not mapped to anything. This is also an issue on Windows, see here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1031440/discussions/0/1642043096905005180/
When you get into the game, go into the settings in SteamVR and edit the bindings. There are a couple community presets that work fine.
Like other have said, the performance is just awful, and apparently it's a Windows issue as well.
Screen sizes are a little finicky in the settings, I had to swap them around a few times to get things to stick.
The game has serious FPS issues, largely making the game unplayable, or close to it.
Black screen on startup for me, had to Alt+Enter to fullscreen the game for anything to show up.
Works great but has performance issues.
Game works fairly well, but due to the poor state of VR on Linux, the performance isn't great. Hoping to see more updates to SteamVR on Linux that improve VR performance.
I'm using a Valve Index.
