Game ran smoothly. Only mode tested so far is swam mode. Will report on story mode at a later date.
Random freezes and crashes in the campaign. We're waiting, BI.
The crackling mainly happens when the radio voices in the campaign are speaking even when they aren't talking on the radio.
While trying to load into the game after a crash right after finishing the mission taking out a mortar team with a drone. The game would try to load but would freeze and lock up to the point the only way exit is to kill the application.
While in the campaign the game would freeze for a few seconds and then resume at random times.
Able to play on the few servers that don't have anti-cheat enabled. Suggest to just spin up or find a private server that doesn't require anti-cheat
All we need to do is wait is Battleye to fully implement Proton and for for BI to "press that button" to enable Linux anti-cheat support. Mods work, but you have to run the Arma 3 unix launcher to get them to load in unless you want to manually input every mod you want to use in the command line options on Steam.
Have a clean prefix with generated GE-Proton9-1 by running the game once with GE-Proton9-1 selected (it will crash). Base game: protontricks -q 244210 dotnet48 protontricks -q 244210 d3dcompiler_43 d3dx11_43 protontricks -q 244210 vcrun2015 win10 Run the game, it should work.
Connected to a server using Content Manager, no issues loading any mods or assets.
There are some tweaks that need to be made to make sure things like Content Manager, CSP and SOL to work. (These are all typical requirements for most servers now adays)
For Content Manager to and multiplayer to work: If you haven't already, run the game and exit. Install Conent Manager into your Assetto Corsa game directory Ex. /path/to/your/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/assettocorsa/ Change the name of 'Content Manager.exe' to 'Content Manager Safe.exe' Needed so that CM recognizes your steam account: ln -s ~/.steam/root/config/loginusers.vdf /path/to/your/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/244210/pfx/drive_c/Program\ Files\ (x86)/Steam/config/loginusers.vdf Set your launch options to something like: /home/yourname/.local/share/Steam/compatabilitytools.d/GE-Proton9-1/proton waitforexitandrun /path/to/your/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/assettocorsa/'Content Manager Safe.exe'; echo %command% Launch the game as normal CM will ask for an install directory: Z:\path\to\your\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\assettocorsa Make sure to use \ and not / as this will cause bugs in content manager.
For CSP to work: After opening CM and installing CSP through CM, close the game. protontricks -q 244210 corefonts protontricks -c winecfg 244210 Libraries -> DLL Overrides -> dwrite.dll (native, built-in) -> Apply and/or 'Ok'
Install SOL as instucted in their guide. You are all set to play and mod AC to your heart's content.
Game works fine as long as you avoid tabbing out in KDE.
KDE's taskbar will be over the game if you tab out.
The game runs fine Nvidia driver issues aside. Although still not playable due to missing terrain.
To get this game to run on Lutris you must use winetricks within lutris to ensure that the windows version being run in wine is windows 10. You must also make sure that v8.dll, v8_libbase.dll, v8_libplatform.dll, VRfreeC.dll, and webrtc_plugin.dll
are symlinked from bin
to the dcs game folder using ln -s bin/[dll file]
in the dcs game folder.
There is currently a bug with the Nvidia 495.44 driver causing terrains not to render as well other major artifacts with smoke and clouds. Downgrading to the Nvidia 470.74 driver has been shown to fix it though I have not been able to test it yet.
There is some frame stuttering related to Wayland on nvidia drivers which should hopefully be fixed in the next driver update. These issues are non-existant when using Xorg.
Get occasional crashes, and random white artifacts other than that the game runs smoothly.
The Game itself runs great after installing xact, the only issue that is a real pain is the sound goes completely out when in combat with ghouls in particular or if an explosion happens around you. The sound effects typically go out first and then a few seconds later the music goes out.
Game works it just crashes when attempting to go fullscreen in i3gaps. Works with both XBone S and PS4 wireless controllers connected via bluetooth. Both controllers tested simultaneously in versus mode with no issues to report.
Can't save game due because Rockstar Social club won't connect.
Couldn't sign into Rockstar Social Club so I couldn't load or save any progress at all. Gotta love the "always online" requirement /s.
Can't sign into Rockstar Social club which completely breaks the save game system.
This game crashes after the tutorial. I really hope valve fixes this as I really want to experience this game and change my review.
Lag while loading new areas.
Crashes after the scene in train as it fades to black. Completely shuts headset off.
SteamVR completely crashes after the initial tutorial level.
Frequent crashes possibly linked to Nvidia graphics cards when transitioning between areas.
Stutters when loading into a new area.
The game crashes when loading from one area to another. The only work around is to save just before the game is about to load the new area, exit the game and then load into the save.
From looking at all the reviews it seems like this is mainly an issue linked to Nvidia hardware.
Game ran flawlessly after copying files as said in other recommendations. Frames never dropped below 30 FPS even on ultra high settings. Made it through the intro no problem
The game does take a little while to load with the --nologo --waitforpreload --gc 2
command-line options but they definitely are better than the stuttering that would be experienced if they wheren't added.
This game runs well straight out of the box
The only gameplay experienced was against bots on random servers using "quickplay".
Game runs perfectly out of the box, no issues to note other than a small loss of frame rate a few minutes in but after that everything ran smoothly.
Game runs fine in flat mode, unable to play in VR mode at the moment of writing this.
While using VR trying to load into a race will cause the game to freeze and then crash, the initial view of the cockpit will render in VR but the game will not accept any further input requiring me to kill the application.
Other than aforementioned bug with freezing, this game runs great out of the box with controller and just needs a tweak to get a wheel working as mentioned in other reports.
Eternal Logging In Screen
The game starts up fine in both VR and Flat modes but gets stuck trying to log in or create an account.
Works fine right out the box!
No issues to note in the few hours I've played so far; everything worked as intended.
EAC works with the work around. VRAM issues can be fixed with a command.
Sometimes TABing out will cause the game to not allow you to select menu items.
When frame rate drops expect laggy mouse input even in the menus.
Mainly happens after loading into another map. HighResShot 32x200 usually fixes it. Avoid AA and Shadow Quality more than "Low."
When loading into new maps there is a chance the game will crash on you.
There is the work around other people have stated to get EAC working by changing the permissions in the Temp folder to "read-only."
Black Screen and No Further
Tried both Proton Experimental and Proton Latest Stable 8.0. Upon launching, the game attempts to install EAC and I assume finishes. The game then opens to an eternal black screen, no audio and no input response. The game process must closed via steam or killed to exit.
Hangs on startup
All versions of proton don't work, game hangs on startup before even reaching the main menu with Proton Experimental, Proton 8.0-5 and GE-Proton. The game completely crashes out before reaching the main menu using Proton 9.0-2.
Crashes out with the default proton config, had to use GE-Proto9-10 to get the game working.
Command line options were: gamemoderun %command% -dx11
If I didn't add the -dx11
flag I would get an error saying that dx12 is not supported and to run the demo without -dx12 or -d3d12.
During more graphically intensive scenes the audio would cut out.
There were a lot of issues with LOD's on certain objects, especially larger ones like the fountain and the truck. Most other things loaded in fine.
Everything works as it would on windows. Use proton instead of native if you want multiplayer.
Was able to connect to my friend's session with no issues.
It is best to use the Proton Version if you intend to play the game on multiplayer since the Native Linux version tends to lag behind on updates.
Shader compilation takes forever, and if you skip it you will have to deal with loading stutters.
Attempting to compile the shaders for the game takes hours, if you don't compile the shaders you will be met with stutters with loading into a new area. Shader compilation has to be done any time the game gets a major update or there is an update for your system's drivers.
If you launch into the Windows 8/10 version of the game the audio is completely broken, it is best to launch the game in Windows 7 mode on the launcher until audio is fixed.
Having this game at minimum settings makes it look like a muddy mess and is the only way to get a playable FPS.
There would be times the game wouldn't register me trying to pick up an item and the sighting of some of the guns tested felt a bit off.
The game was playable, but I had to set it at the lowest graphics settings and even then I had stuttering throughout most of the gameplay.
Had a couple crashes trying to adjust the graphics settings.
This game is in Early Access so there should hopefully be some improvement in the future. Multiplayer Co-op was working as far as I tested so that's a plus for this VR shooter.
Avoiding anti-aliasing the game runs decently out of the box with only a little tracking issues.
The tracking is still a tad inaccurate especially when crouched, it definitely isn't game breaking but it is still noticable.
Loading certain scenes triggers a bit of lag, but once everything is loaded the game runs smoothly.
I was able to tweak the graphical settings and found the source of the poor performance was from the anti-aliasing, once that was disabled the game ran at a more acceptable frame rate on the "excellent" quality setting and moderate resolution, with anti-aliasing (edge blur) turned off.
Multiplayer co-op works when you can find a host.
The game works flawlessly out of the box.
Was able to see another player's boat and chat with them using the "VHF radio" text chat with no issues.
This game runs fairly well aside from the stuttering which in my opinion is not enough in most areas to be game breaking.
There is the occasional missing animal call. But it is very rare.
Early on, the region labels of places I've explored would not be revealed upon opening the map after just starting the game even though the lodges and lookout points were still unlocked.
There is an almost constant stuttering on the larger reserves I've played (Layton, Yukon, Silver Ridge Peaks and Hirschfelden) with a lot of vegetation even on the lowest settings. Especially noticeable when traveling at high speeds using the ATV. The stuttering was almost non-existent on Cuatro Colinas even at on Utlra.
The only crashes I've experienced are when once when I was exiting straight from the game instead of going to the menu first. And once when switching directly between reserves.
Works out of the box. No issues to note
I used gamemoderun %command% in the command line options.
