Everything works as intended, right out of the box!
gamemoderun %command%
I did not find any issues at all, worked like a dream out of the box. Linux gaming experience is better and better each day :) I only added one launch parameter, which I always do with my games to natively further increase its performance: gamemoderun %command%
PROTON_USE_WINE3D=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n,b" %command% -SPEEDCONTROL
Used this user's method, to make the game run smoother + increase the resolution: https://www.protondb.com/app/2229850#6G8XQ3PQxY
Works out of the box, no tinkering or launch paraming needed!
I was so curious by seeing others screwing with dgvoodoo and all that. I just installed, hit play and started playing, no huss or fuss. Sure, the resolution is natively 1024x768, but believe me, its scaled to your screen, and it totally gives to the retro experience. Everything is readable, perfectly sharp. If you want to make your life harder, then you can start playing around and tweaking.
works on opensuse out of the box!
Again openSUSE Tumbleweed KDE Plasma 6.1+ wins!!! I had no tinkering at all, I dont know why almost everybody here writes that it must be set to dxvk fps limit to 60 while vsync is there default in the game!? Why overcomplicate simple things? I have no screen tearing, no stuttering at all, buttersmooth experience, on an NVIDIA (!!!) card with proprietary (!!) drivers - that "supposed" to be "unfriendly" with Linux per sé the community, well I see how much it is, all I see here that people with AMD cards have these issues. Also that mouse acceleration config, I dont know why peoiple keep suggesting this, my mouse works just fine, yes it truly accelerates by default while in PIP mode (just as on windows), and I got used to mouse acceleration - in fact, I couldn't live without it! People suggesting to turn it off, maybe because THEY are uncomfortable with it, but that doesn't mean that it MUST be turned off at all perhaps other people out there like me, who are perfectly comfortable with that.
also reacting to this to the person who wrote it: "You need to limit the frame rate to 60 FPS, otherwise lips will be desynced and the physics will go crazy. Proton GE is required for music to play on radios." - what lips desync are you talking about?? plese when you write reviews, at least re-read what you wrote and assure it makes sense... vsync is on by default, its not gonna stutter, unless you downloaded your nvidia drivers from nvidia's website - oh you're using arch, well that's just too sad, its way on the edge and your distro is unstable! open your eyes! also proton GE is NOT-NOT-NOT recommended at all to bother with, radio works fine as well with proton experimental (again default that steam provides)!!
Out of the box experience on my opensuse! <3
protontricks 6900 directmusic
All you need is: protontricks 6900 directmusic
, then you'll have music too. Everything else works, leave all settings at default. For me both openGL and Direct3D works.
~ I'm using openSUSE Tumbleweed btw.
works out of the box!
I had no problems at all! Its plug and play, using everything as default. The game uses Uplay, and its super easy to connect, then the game launches and go ahead and play. Runs better than on windows!
It just works right out of the box
No tinker, no huss and fuss, just install and hit play. Runs buttersmooth
This game would be so good if it would work on LINUX!!!
volume for speech is low and is supressed by other audio such as shooting
Shadows behave oddly, for example, when a soldier runs and the sun shines on him, the shadow will be left behind him as a trail...
The game is unplayable. It crashes out whenever it wants to autosave itself, thus it is impossible to progress from the first mission at all!
Game randomly closes without any warning
as previously mentioned, shadow bugs, but since theres no save in multiplayer, it is rather playable, but sometimes it crashes out of nowhere without any warnings..
Steam Proton needs to adress this issue asap, there are multiple reports on this bug on proton's github and nobody answers it! The game works on windows, but I'm using linux for a good reason and not using windows for another good reason.
Whenever the game tries to save automatically (or you try to save manually) the game crashes, because it wants to create a screenshot of the actual game view, but it instead creates a 0byte file and boom, self tee-ball. I used this guy's workaround https://github.com/kanroot/men_of_war_assault_squad_2_linux
but then it never ever saves your game, which was ok for a temporary duct-tape quick fix (WAS) because 6years have passed and this isn't still fixed officially by Valve's Proton team.
Now when I use this script, the game progressed well without crashing from wanting it to save (because it no longer saved), but then 5-6mins into the game and the game just randomly closes itself with a "sound" error and an "unknown level of volume thickness" error lol. Yes I'm banging my head into my desk.
I literally tried everything. Here's what I tried + many other things that are not listed here but listed on bottm of this protondb report - an exhaustive list:

Here's my report on VALVE'S PROTON GITHUB and the ticket was opened by ghost 6 (SIX!) years ago, and still no solution.

I contacted them on discord, no answer.
I tried to contact GloriousEggroll if he could fix it, because he's a "wizard", but got no response.
I really want to enjoy this game on linux, but I just cant, and I'm crying a river now :(
Did all my best I could since a week, researchingthe whole internet for solutions but no luck. Tried this on different kernel versions too, no luck.
Just works ootb!
The game natively uses Ubisoft launcher, and it went smoothly! Register, activate cd key and boom, you're in the game, runs super smooth. I use openSUSE Tumbleweed btw.
works out of the box
again, opensuse wins! no tinkering, no huss and fuss, just plug n play, install n play
Out of the box experience again!
Yet another game that runs super smooth and super OOTB! I remember the times when I was a windows users long time ago, and I had to use this dgvoodoo thing to get this game running. Guess what, here on linux, I just installed the game and hit play, and everything just worked. Better experience on linux each single day!!! Enjoy
gamemoderun %command%
cursor remains the system cursor (I mean, the looks of the cursor), this make it hard to know when you're attacking units (cursor not chaning to sword for example, it's just my Bibata-modern-classic styled cursor that is visible)
It just works, really easy setup
Works out of the box
Bought it, installed it, and basically started playing. Works like a charm!
Out of the box working
No cutscene audio
Except the audio which does not play in the cutscenes, the game itself worked out of the box
gamemoderun %command%
FPS is rock solid, works like a dream, its like native, gaming experience is now better than it was on windows!!
-f -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -intro:off
Reading all the comments people screwing around with the cpu affinities and overcomplicating everything with "9000" lines of launch parameters and such, meanwhile me sitting here, looking at people, and just going on my own way - doing it plain simple...: I'm using only this basic resolution changing one, even without it the game would perfectly run, but then at lower resolution obviously. My observation is that it just simply works out of the box.
Also, alt-tabbing does not break my UI, I don't get it what is wrong with other people's pc, but I'm running this with nvidia proprietary drivers, and as opposite to radeon users, im having a better out of the box experience it seems!
Default launch params detailed:
-f -> to force fullscreen
-CustomResolution:enabled -> to enable the next line which will use custom resolution
-r1920x1080x32 -> set to your monitor's resolution (x32 is the color depth, leave it like that)
-intro:off -> well.. intro off :D quicker game startup
works ootb
On my tumbleweed its literally install & play and it just works, its that easy, ootb experience keeps rolling ;)
Works out of the box natively
I read that some has issues with dual monitor + wayland, I experience none of that! In fact I'm using nvidia proprietary drivers too!
So for my experience, it works out of the box like a charm, using dual monitors + wayland + nvidia prop drivers.
gamemoderun %command%
Turn off browser hardware acceleration in order to access the shop.
No needed to tinker at all, install and play. I just put the feral gaming mode into the launch params because I'm used to it. Only thing that needs to be turned off as others mentioned too (and is not proton or steam or linux's fault at all) is the browser hardware acceleration within the game's graphics settings because otherwise the store won't open up, just the wargaming logo spinning. Out of the box experience
Everything just works, the game utilized from all my CPU cores and GPU aswell. No tinkering at all. Perfect experience.
out of the box experience on opensuse tumbleweed!
everything just worked right ootb
on my opensuse tumbleweed it just works like a dream
use opensuse, out of the box experience!
