Run OOTB

Works out of the box
Classic game with great story and gameplay. Glad it works on linux without a hitch

As a matter of course I always use GE-Proton for all my games so it may not be required to play Valkyria Chronicles.

Besides the controller (Xbox One) having to be connected after the game, I didn't experience any issues at all. It runs perfectly.
If the controller is connected before the game starts, it won't work. Starting the game, then connecting the controller does the trick.

Haven't finished the game yet, but no problems after a few hours played.

This was a 2 part event.... I had to install lib32-nvidia-utils (nvidia 32bit drivers ) so steam would correctly detect and use my gpu to render, and secondly, I use lxappearance to change my mouse appearance. I needed to disable anti-aliasing in the font category. after that it starts up and I can enter the game with no issues.

window opens then closes
"-windowed or -fullscreen
gpu is gtx 2080ti, I think this is an issue with fullscreen, probably due to my window manager (BSPWM). I tried using different FPS'S but nothing worked. tried seeing if this was an FPS issue, no dice
Funcionou perfeitamente sem precisar de ajustes.

Set FPS limit to 30

In-game 30 FPS cap
Game volume level is quite low; you'll probably need to increase Deck volume to near max to hear everything if your play area has any background noise.
Also some relatively soft "pops" are audible before some lines of dialogue. Distracting but not critical.
I encountered the same crash as previous tester when leaving HQ for the first time.
30 FPS cap is recommended not only for battery saving, but also so character dialogue during battle is properly lip-synched.
Works absolutely perfect OOTB

Ran the same as it did on Windows.
It's a pity one can't force anisotropic filtering through the driver...
Works fine. One game crash when switching from HQ mode back to Book Mode first time but it did not happen again. Recommend!
Crashed once, game closed when switching menus in-game (book mode)
Works flawless. No issues found.

Steamdeck controller was not detected in game until I forced for a moment Proton Experimental, then started the game, confiremd it works, changed back proton version (disabled force specified version) and it is still working, perhaps it re-created something and it works now. Before that I had it fully working OOTB.
Had to change proton version to experimental, start game and go back to get controller to be recognized.
Game works in slow-motion if not using either 30 or 60 Hz, so per-game profile to override 40 Hz is required.

If you don't try to mod the game it should work out of the box. Just don't forget to lock it to 30 fps with 720p resolution.
Installed a quality of life mod
Minor audio stuttering, thankfully very rarely.
When modding the game or changing game files the game would crash on startup for me (black screen then immediate crash). Reinstalling the game still left the game broken. The solution was to completely remove the 'Valkyria Chronicles' folder from Steamapps/Common/. If you want to install a mod (graphic or rebalance mods for example) first make sure that you're save is backed up (Steam Cloud). Then install the mod and check if the game launches, if it crashes with a black screen follow these steps: Uninstall the game from steam, remove the 'Valkyria Chronicles' folder from Steamapps/Common/ in desktop mode then reinstall the game. DO NOT LAUNCH THE GAME, INSTALL THE MODS YOU WANT FIRST. Once you're done messing with game files you're free to start the game. After figuring this out I haven't experienced any instability issues. According to PCGAMINGWIKI there are a few bugs when playing with anything other than 30fps and 720p, so I'm currently playing with those settings.
Is stable as long as you play 720p/30fps and don't try to mod the game.
Le jeu se lance parfaitement dès le premier lancement. J'en suis à 7 heures de jeu sans aucun bug.
The game is launched perfectly from the first launch. I am 7 hours of play without any bugs.

I played the game with default settings but it wasnt until mission 4 when the game started to randomly freeze
Game is natively capped at 30 FPS. To be sure I limited framerate to 30 FPS too.
Game is turn by turn so it is clearly adapted to the Steam Deck.
There are framedrops. Limit frames to 30fps and turn on vsync
Not using Esync and Fsync command line args and limiting frame rate to 30 with vsync made experience better

Works great out of the box with minor issue mentioned
The time played shown as 00:00:00

Runs perfectly out of the box.
Audio very ocasinally out of sync. Hard to say if it's proton specific or just a bug in the game
Mouse does not work in menus, but all necessary actions can be performed with keyboard navigation.

Game doesn't launch
Steam thinks it's running, but nothing happens. Tried Proton Experimental, 6.3-8 and 5.13-6.
GE 6.15-2 , 6.10 + Proton versions not working
Used this particular version since a recent report said it would work. Proton versions are stuck at downloading Microsoft DirectX.

Proton-6.15-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.15-GE-2
The graphics settings menu runs at 1fps.
Proton 6.3-8 has crackling sound issues if you choose the wrong graphics settings.
Working without tweaks with latest Proton
The commands are no longer needed to play this game flawlessly
as long as you stay in the game it work's.
game break's sometimes when switching screen modes or alt+tabing even when in window mode. not consistent
shader compiles seam's heacyer on this game than most. fine after the first time a new thing is on screen if you have shadercache on.
alt+tab can sometimes crash the game
Flawless experience, no tweaks needed.
Window Manager used: Qtile
Runs flawlessly
Seems to run perfectly fine. It no longer seems to be necessary to add runtime options for perfect audio without stuttering.
Runs surprisingly well on low end hardware, audio problems
Audio keeps crackling even after dissabling Esync. Sonic Generations also has this problem.
Only special sound effects get weird like in menus while selecting an option. Voices and music are save from this audio crackling. The rest is totally playable.
Launch Options: PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 %command%
Sometimes, there are small, thin, white vertical lines between the letters. This is present in the menus. But not in the subtitles.
