I am playing the GOG version and it ran on Heroic just fine. It's plug and play.
Installing the unoffical patches where a little hit and miss, the game didn't like the "sound and fixes" patch and would crash the moment the thug talked in the beginning cutscene. The actual "build44 to build46" patches worked the first time but then all the sudden started asking for a CD after installing it without the "sound and fixes" patch. Being the GOG version I am sure this version is already patched so I just left it alone, you may need these for the Steam version. The widescreen and texture patch worked great so I kept that on, it does show where the graphics cut off, but thats the patch.
- I am running Proton 9

Did a full custom controller mapping as none of the community ones were all that good.
Some transparent textures darken the surfaces behind them; they shouldn't do this. Not sure if it's a Proton issue or happens in Windows as well, though.
The comptalk hacking minigame requires slightly more precise mouse movements than the trackpads can provide, meaning you'll need a wireless mouse to actually succeed at them.
There are a couple of issues involving a sequence a couple of hours in where you trail a suspect: the autosave mid-way through the trail deletes your photos if you load it (you can restore an earlier save, where they'll be intact, but it renders this specific save useless) and completing the trail will sometimes cause the cutscene that follows it to freeze. Closing and restarting the game, repeating the trail, then letting the cutscene play again will suddenly work.
I had the bad lighting issue mentioned by other reports.
This was fixed simply by forcing the use of a different Proton version; After doing this, I could go back to the original Proton version and the lighting was still fixed (I went from GE 7 as my default, to Experimental, then back to GE again; I even tested with regular Proton 7 and it still worked).
I think the lighting issue only happens at first launch, and 'reloading' the Proton version just once has seemed to fix the issue for all subsequent launches of the game.
I have the issue with the Pause popping up and getting stuck when first moving the character in-game as mentioned in other reports.
I was able to exit the Pause menu with the F10 key and then carry on playing as normal.
I ran the game with the "Widescreen Fix", "Graphical Enhancements", and "Sounds and Fixes v0.1" mods available on ModDB, all without issue.

Had to downgrade to 5.13-6 because on later versions the colors were wrong. Darker and of different hues

Generally works fine, no glitches. Just minor brightness issues, which might be fixable with some tweaking
Game was very dark, turning up the gamma destroyed all colors. Not sure if it's a Proton issue or an issue of the game.
Old but works
Played with Proton 6.3-8

No funciona.
Seems to work fine except for one weird pause problem I had at the very beginning.
After the initial game intro, when I was first given control of the character, I hit W to move forward and the game went into PAUSE. The only way I found to get out of pause mode was to load a save I had made.

This is the GOG version with optional, but HIGHLY recommended resolution fix at https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1549-anachronox/ and only had to replace two files in the install directory. After doing this and starting the game, change Video settings to Hi-Res mode.

Works good
Played with Proton 5.0-7
Cutscenes, dialogues, battles and the game itself run at stable 60 fps, however, frames tend to drop significantly in certain areas (usually outdoors).

No issues during playthrough and no workarounds needed. Proton 4.11-2.

No issues

Working perfectly out of the box.

Flawless.

It had some minor issues in earlier versions of Proton, but with the current beta at least it seems to be running perfect with no problems I can find after a few hours of playing it.

So far so good

Seems to work perfectly in the initial location

Works perfectly

Seems to work perfectly in the initial location, has Alt-Tab problems.
