Playable and can be completed, although with minor issues
There's a TV in-game which should play a video file, but instead plays static. I was able to finish the game without knowing something was wrong. The video adds context to the story which might have been helpful.
No audio, but otherwise seems to play perfectly.
No audio at all
Screen goes black and does not recover after Alt-Tabbing
Has no issues with importing local tracks or using the radio channels. Used launch parameters: "-Linux -SteamBoards"
Occasionally the game will become unplayably laggy after starting a new song. Restarting the game resolves the issue.
Played and enjoyed most of the game, but an unavoidable crash near the end forced me to use Windows to get through the last hour.
Has a similar audio crackling issue as Heavy Rain, but here it's a lot more tolerable. Most of the time it was hardly noticeable, using launch parameters: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" %command%
Game will sometimes stutter when switching to a new scene.
There's a part near the end that my game would always crash on.
Native version had issues playing the "Half Sided" levels, where the controls weren't working properly. Proton runs perfectly.
After more testing, scratch my last report. I prefer the Native version. Just make sure to run the game in Fullscreen.
The control issue with "Half Side" can be resolved by setting the game to run in Fullscreen. With that issue resolved the game runs better in Native than it does in Proton. The Proton version has some minor graphical differences (parts of the level selection screen render with black bars on the sides), and also suffers from infrequent freezes.
Full release version runs perfectly, just as well as it did in the beta
Game sometimes hangs on the qualified screen, but never during the 1st or 2nd match. Restarting after 1st or 2nd match avoids the issue.
Latest updated added EAC, attempting to queue now produces error "Anti-cheat is not initialized"
Used the bash script https://gist.github.com/rokam/3fb8b768606eef1ddd696cd0bc02e6df/raw/6a0f3a502b2722c87e92ea9cffb8a00144f8a76a/fix_fallguys.sh
Used Proton Experimental (bleeding edge).
During initial setup, let "Installing Epic Online Serivces" complete step 1/2. Close the window when it begins step 2/2. On all subsequent launches of the game, close the window whenever you see it attempting step 1/1.
The game must be run at least once on Windows, even if you've already connected your Steam account to your Epic account. Elsewise you'll get an infinite loading screen.
Intro video appears as a black screen and cannot get past it.
Fully playable with Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF. Alt-tabbing will sometimes cause the game window to go permanently black.
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Plays perfectly. No audio issues.
This game doesn't have fully voiced dialogue, which some reports seem to have mistaken for missing audio. The game also has a unique animation style, which has been mistaken for graphical glitches. Comparing to gameplay on Windows, the experience using Proton is seemingly identical.
Playable, but degraded. Game uses many video files, which can stutter. ProtonGE seems to improve stuttering somewhat, but not completely.
Video stuttering
One of the startup videos rendered incorrectly with default Proton, switching to GE-Proton7-24 fixed it. I tried at first using a newer GE version (7-31), which played the startup video correctly, but then immediately crashed. I did not test if these video render errors effected the actual game.
Without the following, the game will crash when attempting to start the Campaign:
cd /home/$USER/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/pinned_libs_64
mv libcurl.so.4 libcurl.so.4.bak
ln -s /usr/lib64/libcurl.so.4 libcurl.so.4
First session went fine, but subsequent sessions would crash randomly after a few minutes of gameplay. Deleting the prefix seems to have fixed the issue, and was able to complete the game.
Performance was noticeably better using GloriousEggroll. Sometimes the game would freeze for a few seconds, but it would always recover.
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Unplayable due to crashing
Reliably crashes when interacting with certain game objects
Seems to play perfectly on Proton 5.0-10. Native version crashed on startup, and game doesn't render text with Proton 7.0.
Game must be downloaded with Steam Play compatability turned on. If you download the Linux version and then switch to Proton, the game won't start. You'll need to uninstall and re-install.
Framerate sometimes tanks after opening menus, but can be easily fixed by saving and reloading.
Game plays better with Proton than Native
Audio stutters and goes out of sync during intro cutscene. This is a problem with both Native and Proton.
Native has an annoying graphical glitch which causes characters to dissapear during combat. This issue doesn't exist in Proton. https://steamcommunity.com/app/606680/discussions/0/1291817837636792234/
Game has cinematics which will not play on Default Proton, but will play properly using GloriousEggroll
Runs perfectly after installing Media Foundation. Without it, the game will freeze after completing the tutorial.
Runs perfectly
Game has wonky mouse acceleration that can be improved by running "WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1141580/pfx/ regedit
" and under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Mouse
" setting MouseSpeed, MouseThreshold1, and MouseThreshold2 all to 0. Then in-game changing the "Alternate cursor speed" to "slower".
Apart from save file issues, the game runs perfectly.
It's known that this game doesn't save properly when using Steam flatpak.
I was not using flatpak, but I also had issues with save files. The first time I loaded the game I played for a while before quitting. When I came back my save was gone. Started a new save and then immedately quit; re-launched the game and the new save was still there. Was able to recover my progress using publicly available save files.
I'd recommend for anyone to quit the game after starting, and then to verify that the game is saving correctly.
Save files are located at ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1677770/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application\ Data/Godot/app_userdata/The\ Case\ of\ The\ Golden\ Idol
Game fails to start on latest version of Proton (8.0-2), but works with 7.0-6. Cutscenes seem to play properly.
Hangs at the ending cinematic, as mentioned by others. The game has a sort of New Game+ mode with alternate endings which won't be unlocked because of this. You also won't get Steam Achievements for completing the game.
Plays perfectly
On startup it shows a black screen and won't do anything until you click.
Native version has issue with not locking mouse cursor to the window. Issue resolved by switching to Proton, which runs just as good.
Launches out of the box, no playability issues encountered
