While the game is playable, the graphical bugs are very hard to ignore
3D Models flicker in and out of visibility
Native and SteamPlay versions borked
Tried everything, -novid options and such, this video with native which seemed to be popular (https://youtu.be/RM9VIVmBVTY), reinstalling, proton experimental, latest stable proton, nothing got the game past a black window at best.
After trying the fix in the video, in fact, the game would show as running but nothing would be visible anywhere, on any workspace, and I'm on a single monitor. I had to SIGKILL the process to get it to stop, since the "STOP" button on Steam did nothing.
Notes: I'm on a recently re-freshed install of Pop_OS!
Set controller options inside "properties" to "Enable Steam Input", otherwise fails to properly recognize Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers
Clicking the stick caused the game to pause
Some keybindings (Like the pause button being on a stick push) make the experience a bit of a slog, but if you're not heavy-handed in controlling the game this can be avoided. It's annoying, but depending on how easily frustrated you and/or your friends get, this might be easier or harder to get over. If you have enough alcohol during your play session you can probably laugh it off.
I hope you like remapping keys, try setting this game up before game night if you want to avoid people sighing at you while you troubleshoot this instead of playing.
Works fine, but not ideally
Setting Pulseaudio's default bitrate to 48000 made it disappear
DOOM 3: Vsync mentioned DOOM II: Hell on Earth E1M2, you can see some barrels "phasing" through the ceiling when you descend into the drain system
DOOM 3: Vsync very noticeably shoddy when walking forwards or backwards
Refused to boot past splash screens with Proton above 5.13-6
Swapping weapons in DOOM II causes the game to stutter, this is consistent and replicable
DOOM and DOOM II are definitely better played in their original incarnations if you want to play them as designed (eg: the standalone vanilla versions available in Steam), I don't own DOOM 3 outside of this release so I can't say much about that one.
Some users posted about compiling a Linux native version, I might try that if I grow too frustrated with this.
Downgrade to driver 470
Refused to run with 495 Driver (latest available as of writing), works perfectly fine once you downgrade to 470:
If you're on Debian, it should be: sudo apt install nvidia-driver-470
Has crashed twice so far
two crashes in two hours of gameplay
If 495 is the latest nvidia driver, remember to downgrade to 470 for the game to run
Works fine with some minor quirks
Character Select backdrop missing
Must alt-tab to two different non-GGSTRIVE programs before focus is lost
Didn't detect xbox 360 fight stick as Player 1 at first, rebooting the system seemed to fix it.
Works well, I don't remember my game settings for when I ran it on Windows, but I think it runs slightly worse, about 10 frames or so when maxed out, not that the game looks any worse at full resolution with middling settings.
Alt-tabbing doesn't immediately focus the desired window, but then again, lots of Windows programs had that issue for me.
My fight stick wasn't recognized at first, I reinstalled and rebooted the game and it started picking it up. I believe rebooting would do the trick fine.
Note: More precisely it's a Hori Xbox 360 Tekken Tag Tournament 2, but the PCB inside is basically a wired 360 controller.
Wine error pops up saying I need at least 4 GB of VRAM (which I have), the game opens for 2 secs, then crashes without any visible errors
I am using Secure Boot for proprietary drivers, so far it has been such a pain that I'm switching to Manjaro, I'll post my results with Manjaro later
Warns about insufficient VRAM, then crashes
I am able to install, and once I click open, I get a Wine error saying I have less than 4 gigs of VRAM (which is false), the game opens, I see a moment of the loading circle on the bottom left corner, then it crashes.
I can run it at a stable 60 fps with higher resolution than on Windows. Multiplayer works great, I was able to play Ranked.
Will not launch, do not even bother
PROTON_USE_EAC_LINUX=1
This should be trivially easy to fix for a company the size of motherflipping Amazon. It's not like they even have a vested interest to keep the game locked to an OS like Microsoft would, they could probably have an intern fix this in a laughably short amount of time
The first or second match after opening the game will always freeze for a solid two to three seconds, but works flawlessly after that
The steam overlay does not work
Nothing besides that 1 second freeze I mentioned
Works with Proton Experimental better than Native
Native ran horribly, definite slowdown, it was a distinctly strange type of slowdown I've never experienced before. Natively, the game ran at 5 FPS regardless of settings unless I spammed some sort of input, then the game would run "smoother" at upwards of 40-something FPS. This was even true for splash screen logos like the Unreal Engine animation.
With Proton Experimental I can max out the game and get over 60 FPS, no problem at all. It did take installing, forcing Proton to run, launching, waiting for the game to never launch (it said launching, then it had the "STOP" button, implying the game was launched even though htop didn't show me a Spec Ops process) and then rebooting for it to finally work as expected.
Shame the Native build is unplayably and so strangely bugged, but at least Proton saved the day with absolutely flawless performance.
Great experience out the box, no tinkering required
Works with absolutely no issues for me
BattlEye still blocks multiplayer
I thought it would work cause I heard that BattlEye Proton support was already on, but I think I'll just have to VM this one
Works perfectly well out of the box
Note I am currently running the 470 Nvidia driver to be able to run Doom Eternal, I haven't tried it with the latest drivers
Occasional stutter, stopped after about a mission or two
If you're not the host, you'll be constantly kicked
I have to host to be able to play with friends
Flawless performance out the box (with an absolutely irrelevant glitch)
Missing texture, flat magenta on the extra deck as cards from banish return to it en masse. Absolutely infrequent, nothing important
Game stays in fullscreen fine, but upon closing and opening, it always returns to windowed
