Autism Attack

The game was unplayable before I forced proton experimental.
Slightly choppy but did not rule out possible internet connectivity issues
Mostly works great without any tweaking, but had to do some work once I got closer to and into Act 2.
--skip-launcher
Crashes upon reloading or general scene transitions when using vulkan. Switched to DX11 for more stability.
The switch to Dx11 really saved me. Also use the launch option (once you figure out if you want to use Vulkan or DX11) so you don't need to wait on the launcher.
Only when not using experimental
Could not participate in multiplayer until I switched to Proton Experimental
I remember having many issues on Windows and have not had that much trouble playing it on Linux. :)
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Slight stuttering in certain spots, like when turning a corner or going up a floor in the school.
Turned primary monitor black while the game was windowed on my secondary monitor, unplayable as is
Not able to find a fix and I wish to maintain usage of my secondary monitor during play.
Returning from alt-tabbing renders screen black and game must be forced closed.
Any time mouse was moved, game would freeze momentarily. Game plays fine if I don't touch my mouse.
Returning from alt-tabbing results in black screen. Game must be force quit.
Mouse movement causes lag in-game.
Had to change the poll rate of my mouse from 1000 Hz to 125 Hz, but it now plays fine.
Only becomes an issue when shifting focus to another window (clicking into another program with the game still running)
Game wouldn't function prior to forcing Experimental. Got spam errors regarding internet connectivity.
Alt-tabbing causes CTD
Sometimes mouse and keyboard input isn't detected
I often experience CTD before loading up a save (about 10 seconds after reaching the main menu). If a save is able to be loaded, however, it seems to be stable as I haven't yet experienced a crash during gameplay.
FYI - It took quite a while to get it up and running. I'm estimating that I had around 10 crashes during the EA App, VC, and DirectX installation process, plus some after the fact. I spent about an hour troubleshooting this section of the install process when all it really needed was to be brute-forced, essentially. I just ended up re-launching after every crash to nudge the process along. At one point I did also delete the Proton prefix in order to allow it to rebuild it from scratch after a few failed installations of the EA App.
My session is at risk of crashing during all loading screens. If I had to estimate frequency, I'd say I generally experience about 5 or 6 crashes per hour thus far.
I'm one of the lucky few who doesn't have severe FPS drops and stuttering, somehow.
Had to do the below in order to resolve crashing at every loading screen.
"Create a file as root in etc/sysctl.d called 99-max_map_count.conf and in the file place the following line: vm.max_map_count=1048576 after that save and exit and reboot system. Crashes on loading new areas and fast travel will be eliminated. For a short explantion on what the setting does https://sysctl-explorer.net/vm/max_map_count/ keep in mind the value needs to be above 1 million for this to work and setting above matches the steam deck."
During combat, I sometimes temporarily lose functionality in some of the movement keys (WSAD) and/or camera movement. This resolves itself after a few seconds.
Noticeable, though infrequent, FPS drops at times.
Would not launch until I forced experimental, but works flawlessly now.
Literally did nothing and it plays just fine. I might try to iron out the crackles, but it's not that bothersome, honestly.
When stuttering, audio crackles.
Minor stuttering at times, generally only in parts of cutscenes.
Game takes incredibly long to launch most of the time.
No go, uninstalled from Steam
Tried four versions of Proton and couldn't get to the menu. Didn't want to spend forever on it so I uninstalled from Steam and got playing on the Jagex launcher flatpack on github, like someone else here recommended. Standalone Wine install works too, but it's stupid about new accounts. otherwise, you can probably play on Wine just fine.
Alt-tabbing causes game to have unresponsive elements when returning (like borked menus and unresponsive movement keys)
Followed the instructions in this comment https://www.protondb.com/app/3590#qFmv1xsjp8
1 to 4 FPS during plant selection / intermediary
Ran pretty well before the fix was implemented, but after doing so and restarting the game it's truly flawless now.
Hung during gear assignment before the second (first non-tutorial) mission.
Just had to switch to experimental after the hang/crash and was able to progress further.
Had to change mouse poll rate from 1000 Hz to 125 Hz to eliminate cursor flickering and inaccurate input.
Game either would crash as the vulture landed or it would crash prior to launching.
Music cannot be played, as it is distorted. Small SFX like menu sounds are slightly distorted, but I've opted to leave them on. Other audio such as coaster noises, ambiance, and guest noises seem to be intact.
Not sure most people would enjoy having to mute a game's soundtrack because the audio is garbled. I am stubborn.
I am stubborn, but I feel that most gamers wouldn't have the patience to keep redoing parts of missions due to crashes.
Changed Display.ini line "DisplayIndex" to 2 to force it to use my main monitor when in full screen.
Followed below instructions to bypass the DX selection launcher: Rename the "game_launcher" application file. Rename "SaintsRowTheThird_DX11" to "game_launcher".
Cursor flickering
Brief frame drop on cell load
Manually saving during the first mission causes a crash, attempting to skip some cutscenes crashes the game. Seems like both happened when they were moreso transitional elements in the game and not actual cutscenes, like when you can't control your player character because they're stumbling or interacting with something else.
Skip crashes can be avoided by being more patient I suppose, but I don't trust any autosave system so knowing my manual saves may cause a crash is a bit annoying. I tried a few Proton versions but they didn't provide a different experience than Experimental, so I just left it on Experimental.
When alt-tabbing, returning results in background textures being black until loading a new area.
Slowdowns/lag at certain spots
Wouldn't launch until experimental was forced
export WAS_DO_NOT_DISTURB_OFF=$(/usr/bin/gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.notifications show-banners); /usr/bin/gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.notifications show-banners false; %command%; /usr/bin/gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.notifications show-banners $WAS_DO_NOT_DISTURB_OFF
In certain instances, a group of NPCs will repeat the same phrase during combat. The dialogue stops being repeated once combat is over.
Launch option is to prevent Gnome notifications, as mentioned 6 months before me by another Pop_OS user. Notifs can cause the game/OS to crash.
No complaints
Small border around the screen and (not surprisingly) the resolution is small.
Consistent hang/unresponsive screen at end of December 23rd cutscenes. Couldn't get past it for a number of attempts, as it wouldn't save my progress. It eventually (after replaying the whole day + assault multiple times) marked the day as complete and let me move on to December 24th though.
Unsure if switching is what let it finally let my checkpoint register, but I know I forced experimental and was able to progress.
Impressively stable considering I didn't have to do really anything at all.
In game mouse acceleration doesn't line up with where my cursor actually is, leading to me clicking out of the game quite often during mini-games.
I have to avoid the big monster truck in Throttleville, as it is guaranteed to crash my game anytime I go near it.
Laggy at loading points when using this version of Proton
Submitted another report earlier today, but I absolutely had to go down the list of Proton versions until I found one that didn't cause me to crash when certain circumstances were met. All newer versions of Proton cause me to crash when I'm near the monster truck in Throttleville and when my character/the camera is close to the bucking bull and show your strength games. I also could not play the tank frenzy game, barring me from full completion of one of the parks. This version of Proton is laggy at times, but I'm able to play without worrying about crashing. Other option is to finish off what would normally make me crash, then switch back to Experimental for less lag to play the rest of the game.
Could not rebind keys at all. Was not recognizing my keyboard input. Found out turning off NUM LOCK was the solution. I was able to rebind all keys after doing so.
Major FPS drops at times, suspected to be Uru not playing nicely with my CPU
Check your number lock if you're not able to rebind your keys to your liking.
Only issue is the notes kind of lag when fast forwarding the timeline
SteamDeck=1 %command%
Parroting everyone else here. Game is unplayable without the launch command. Framerate is incredibly low, audio is choppy, and input is laggy or completely misses the mark. With the launch command, it's flawless.
Alt-tabbing breaks the game
Jittery video, audio clipping, screen did not change when attempting to navigate
