- Had to install Visual C++ for the game to run.
- The Bandai Namco Online JP launcher also closed with an error while installing but it still worked.
The game really lags in town and sometimes in dungeons. (Played on Steam Deck)
The game seems to eat a ton of RAM on my Steam Deck and crashes every now and then when it exceeds 12GB.
The game never disconnected and the ping was very acceptable. I played the Japanese BNO version since the Global Amazon release is not out until 2024.
Dark Souls II Scholars runs flawlessly on the Deck.
It works just like any PC running this game.
No 16:10, engine is locked to 60fps, will run at 720p 60fps Max Settings. Docked it will run at 50-60FPS 1440p Max Settings.
The game plays well enough without modification. Slowdowns in certain areas and when certain visual effects are shown. The credits cutscene did not load but all other cutscenes has worked flawlessly. This game does not support 16:10 resolutions but it's fine.
Modding the game seems identical to playing on PC. DSFix is installed the same way but will need you to enter the following Launch Option into Steam > WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n'b" %command%
Using custom textures with DSFix introduces freezes when you try to enter new areas that may last half a second or more. Certain areas are more prone to freezes than others.
Certain visual effects and areas produces slowdown.
The credits cutscene uses an unsupported codec or something that makes it unwatchable on default Proton 7.0-6
This game is fun.
The game used to not boot when I got my Deck but it now does. It also used to have problems rendering the News pages in-game but that has been fixed in Proton. The game is now flawless on Deck.
Used Decky Loaders "Storage Cleaner" plugin to erase the games Shader Cache after each update since the updates lowers peformance otherwise.
Turn off the FPS Limiter and turn on Allow Tearing in the QAM menu to improve input latency. This is an SteamOS issue and I recommend doing this in any game which may require accurate and fast inputs.
While playing ranked I have once been kicked out from the game by the Anti-Cheat Xingcode so that could happen if you are unlucky. Otherwise no issues.
No issues here. The game is Always Online so you need an internet connection to play.
Works great docked and 60-80 FPS should be doable unless you play in 4K. I play with background videos on but disabling them may increase performance.
Everything works perfectly. Played both docked and handheld.
2 Player Mode works. Just connect your controllers and play. Steam should set them up for you.
It supports all manners of aspect ratios including 16:10 (though the game itself will appear in a 4:3 box in the middle of the screen with art borders). Don't know why others said that it did not have 16:10 support. Maybe they fucked something up or changed some setting? You can also modify how the game box appears making it smaller or bigger etc.
Playing this game handheld is incredible.
30FPS for more hours of playtime. SteamOS built in V-Sync that gets enabled when you lock framerates adds way too much input lag and is kinda annoying in games like Elden Ring. It's very noticeable for me when fighting faster bosses so I always set the Framerate Limit to Off and turns on Allow Tearing for minimum input lag. When docked there is no real reason to limit battery consumption so I always use these settings there.
Easy Anti-Cheat sometimes does not boot the game. If you get stuck on a infinite SteamOS Loading Screen or White Screen for an extended time just close it down and attempt to start Elden Ring again.
The game has crashed a few times while attempting to play Online. Does not happen too often though. Otherwise there are no noticable network lag or connection problems.
Playing docked you will be able to get away playing in 1080p but any higher and framerate issues will pop up. A small amount of areas has lower performance than others but not as many as Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition.
Played using the games Keyboard & Mouse UI option. Left trackpad was scroll and right was mouse with left click. Backbuttons was Tab, Shift+F1 and other usefull binds to make it feel more familiar to K&M. The controller part of the Deck was default Xbox button and sticks. Together it all felt natural to play.
Locked to 30 FPS when wanting a few more hours of gameplay.
The Launcher has another controller preset made specificaly for itself. When you login and enter the game you may have to enter the Steam Menu or QAM for Steam to realize that it should switch over to the games own controller preset. Minor issue but still annoying. Non-Issue if played docked.
The internet connection is identical to running the game on Windows 10.
Playing it docked also works great. Played in 1440p with Dynamic Resolution while docked. 1080p yields much better performance but I liked the crisp UI and HUD so I just dealt with the slowdown that came with the buggy Dynamic Resolution option. Expect around 30-50 FPS in 1440p DR Docked.
Plays perfectly on Linux.
The game does not allow the Mouse to be used at the same time as a Gamepad so I had to use a janky Controller Layout. Gyro & trackpad without mouse sucks and left stick as WASD sucks so this issue is just super annoying no matter what.
No issues.
This is one of the best optimized games that I have played. I will never learn how to aim with a joystick as long as Gyro and Trackpads exist.
The game runs perfectly.
You may find some minor graphical issues on the "Bomb" bar on the bottom of the screen at certain times of the game. It does not hinder your gameplay in anyway.
2 player mode worked perfectly. Just connect your controllers and let Steam handle them.
Please try this classic Cave shmup out, it's fantastic!
Changed trackpads and D-pad.
Only in Desktop Mode.
The game ran and played perfectly in Game Mode. Highly recommended.
Just like on Windows.
Added jump button to the back peddals, enabled Mouse Gyro, turned Right Trackpad into Mouse and when pressed in it presses E (for looting).
I do lock it's framerate to 30 in order to gain a few more hours of gameplay.
You can modify the UI scaling to some degree to negate this issue.
Late into runs your performance will significantly tank into very sometimes single digit frames.
Online play is perfect through Steam.
Works great docked too but the new Desktop Steam Overlay crashes the game. Every cool update to Steam comes with issues so it's just like Valve to f___ stuff up lol.
The game runs perfectly on Deck with no issues.
While playing Online Multiplayer in the past I did notice it locking the framerate to 36fps for no apparent reason until you restart the game. It may have been fixed since then but it has happened. Otherwise the game runs a perfect 60FPS in handheld and 80-120FPS docked while playing singleplayer/local.
Played using two players. Just connect your controllers and Steam should be able to handle the rest.
The game does not support 16:10 so you will have black bars on top and bottom.
Tinkering is required for LAN Multiplayer to work.
You need to enable DirectPlay for the Multiplayer menu to work. You can do this in desktop mode using Protontricks.
Fantastic game. I hope Stronghold Definitive Edition will be good since Firefly Studios haven't had much luck in their last 10 years of game development.
Terraria works just fine on Linux.
I found the default control scheme to be annoying to play with so I spent quite a bit of time changing everything. This game is way better played on an actual mouse and keyboard.
No issues connecting to servers.
Multiplayer on Linux works just like Windows.
Handheld 800p 60fps. Docked 1440p 40-60fps. I have had graphical issues on a past version of the game but my most recent play through had no such issues.
