Works out of the box with Proton 7.0 and Proton Experimental
There is flickering or glitches, very bright and very dark passages on some tracks, but very playable
Works fine with Proton 5.0-10. Login into RaceNet Account only works after installing Codemasters certificate (see below)
You have to install Codemasters certificate to login into RaceNet Account (needed to play online and Career mode).
- Download certificate https://www.upload.ee/files/9626680/codemasters.pem.html
- Open Terminal in download folder and type in these commands:
- openssl x509 -in codemasters.pem -inform PEM -out codemasters.crt
- sudo mv codemasters.crt /usr/local/share/ca-certificates
- sudo update-ca-certificates
Did not work with Proton 5.13-4 (black screen)

had to set gamescope in launch options to avoid massive flickering on 21:9 screen
I couldn't add @ with my default german keyboard layout at the Microsoft login screen (AltGr + Q didn't work). had to change system language to english, change the keyboard layout to english wasn't enough.
Works great with Proton 5.13-4
First time i tried to start the game i got a black screen. after that it worked.

Game didn't work for me with Proton 5.13-6 and Proton 6.3-3
You need to install WMP11 for the game to work. After that it runs great with Proton 5.13-4.
Follow these instructions to install WMP11. You need Wine/Winetricks already installed.
- Start game (you will get a black screen after Konami logo) -> close game
- Open Terminal and enter command to install WMP11:
- protontricks 304240 -q wmp11
- Wait until installation is complete and start game again
You have to install WMP11 to play the game. The following instructions worked for me:
- In Steam game properties -> compatibility -> force the use of 5.0-10 (if it isn't your default)
- Install wine - https://wiki.winehq.org/Download
- Install winetricks - https://wiki.winehq.org/Winetricks (Installing winetricks)
- Start the game. You will get a black screen after the Capcom logo -> close application
- Install protontricks - https://github.com/Matoking/protontricks (pipx)
- Install WMP11 by typing in Terminal: protontricks 304240 -q wmp11
- After installation is complete, start game and enjoy playing!
My first report was incorrect. The game does not work with Proton 5.13-xx !
Online play for native Linux version is no longer supported. But works great and out-of-the-box with Proton 5.0-10

By clicking "Play" in Steam the game doesn't start directly, it's starting the 2K launcher. But the launcher doesn't work (anymore). You have to bypass it by adding the following command in the game launch options: bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries/Win64/xcom.exe}"' -- %command%
Game didn't work for me with Proton 5.13-4, 5.13-6 or Proton 6.3-2
Followed these steps to open "settings.exe" and save to "settings.dat" http://wiki.sgripon.net/doku.php/run_pro_evolution_soccer_2019_in_fullscreen_mode_on_steam_on_ubuntu_linux
To play fullscreen and/or change some video settings (screen resolution, vsync...) you have to open settings.exe. Follow the intructions in the link above.
Game didn't start with Proton 5.13-4
Game always crashes in pre-match menu (friendlies, Master League)
Tried all instructions I could find, but game always crashes. Game starts with Proton 5.0-10 and command PROTON_USE_SECCOMP=1 %command% in launch options. Editing section works without a problem, team selection in local match worked, and Master League (transfers etc) until match day / pre-match menu. Can't connect to Konami servers, so no online play and live updates
