I had constant hiccups making in unplayable when using Proton Experimental so I switched to GE and it seems to be basically fixed now and it runs really smooth.
Minor crackling at times.
Extreme lag when first entering a level, but goes away after 10 seconds or so once everything is fully loaded
Not sure if this is normal but when browsing the pause screen i noticed that there are no sound effects.
Everything seemed to be functioning immaculately, except there were no sfx when navigating the pause menu?
Launches but is basically unplayable
Game was very laggy especially when moving the mouse cursor
Just generally lags a lot and framedrops constantly wouldnt surprise me if it suddenly crashed aswell
gamemoderun %command%
First of all when downloading the game for the first time it kept saying "Validating" and the progress bar said "Updating" or something. It was stuck like this basically forever and I had to basically stop the update and then re-launch the game and then it worked fine for some reason.
Other than that I had one random crash where the game just suddenly didn't want to open anymore even though it was showing in the taskbar and I had to kill the process and restart the game.
For the most part though when it was running like it should it was running flawlessly.
Great experience in the end but ran into some weird roadblocks.
Ran slower than windows for me but it works like intended
Just generally speaking lower framerate than windows
Was experiencing frequent crashes while using Proton Experimental so tried switching to GE, but it still crashes albeit not as often.
Audio cut out for some reason during a cutscene. Doesn't appear to be a persistent problem though.
Constant Crashes. Barely Playable.
Endlessly stuck on "Running install script" for VCRedist 2005.
Stuck on "Launching"
Was able to install fine but when I press the play button it's just endlessly stuck saying "Launching". Probably the steam client not being able to verify something or not being able to find some files idk. I tried verifying the integrity of the files in the properties menu but it was just stuck on something like "resetting install script" or similar.
Most other games launch fine though. e.g. Little Nightmares I'm getting flawless performance. But the issue does persist over a few other titles. So far I've experienced it with this game and Resident Evil 7. Both the exact same issue.
Probably worth mentioning... I'm running Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon. My GPU Driver is the Nvidia proprietary driver v.535 running a GTX 1660Ti in an MSI Laptop (Model: GL65 9SD). Prime profile is set to force using the Nvidia card.
Doesn't start at all?
Installs fine and when I press play the game "starts" but the game window never pops up and nothing happens.
Basically don't use Gnome. Not sure about Plasma as it's also kind of a heavy desktop but I had crashes on Gnome specifically.
Used these launch options but I'm not sure if it does anything in non-enhanced edition:
VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_2 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr,dxr11 RADV_PERFTEST=rt %command%
Constantly crashes on Gnome. Had to install xfce to run the game. Big bummer as I love gnome.
Definitively "Gold" Rated. Works perfectly after "Tinkering"
gamemoderun %command%
When running the game natively all I saw was some flashing colors on the screen and the menu didn't even pop up. Had to switch to forced Proton Experimental and run the Windows version for it to run normally. When ran through Proton however it simply ran flawlessly
gamemoderun %command%
The game would always show the keyboard icon for interactible items until i pressed some button on the controller then it would flash the controller button icon for a frame and return to the keyboard icon. It didn't matter which button on the controller i was using it would flash in this manner so basically if i was using the thumbstick then it would just flash constantly kinda spazzing out. Not gameplay hindering at all just quite inconvenient and distracting.
Seemed to have pretty low framerate for a game from 2017
gamemoderun %command%
Would show the incorrect glyphs until controller was being used then it would spazz out and flash between keyboard and controller glyphs.
The fix for this issue I found is that you have to enable steam input then everything seemed to work flawlessly.
Slightly more laggy than a game from 2017 should be but not a big deal.
Crashes so often one might want to take a sledgehammer to their pc.
Seems to crash very often. Might be related to me using budgie desktop. Ever since I tried gnome a while back I've noticed apparently different desktop environments matter for gaming on linux. Basically for me on budgie the game just randomly decides to poop itself out of nowhere. Even during cutscenes where the pc isn't really doing any work. I checked to see if it might be my pc overheating somehow but no it's extremely stable at around 40C under load so my cooler is functioning perfectly. I will also check some other things but for now I will just assume some desktops just dont work well with games :/ I've had the best experiences on KDE and XFCE so if you wanna do gaming on linux there're some recommendations for ya even if i personally dislike both.
For some reason when I put quality to max for testing purposes it was like the terrain was stretching all over the place. Like the grass that should be rendering on top was flying all over the scene. Not a big deal and might just be me running outta vram tbh.
Don't Use Budgie DE (I Think?)
Had to opt into dx11 beta version since my game save from windows had raytracing enabled and it wouldnt start.
The game for some reason lags badly after changing some of the graphical settings. The way i deal with this is just to either change them to something else or just restart the game.
Some objects weren't shaded correctly
as described before when changing some certaing graphical settings the game lags really badly until restart
I was originally using "gamemoderun %command%" in the launch options
When running the game through gamemode for some reason all audio except cutscenes was completely gone. I have tried changing my /etc/pulse/daemon.conf settings so the audio would run at 48khz but it didn't work. So far the only thing that has fixed it was running the game without gamemoderun %command% in the launch options which I prefer not to as basically all games have worse performance when you don't use gamemode.
