Works very well
Runs like native, doesn't crash like on Windows when you Alt-Tab which is great. Multiplayer has been long dead, so use a service like Hamachi or ZeroTier to play with friends.
Game runs fine, launch RACE 07 and not any of the DLC theme shortcuts from the library.
All DLC for RACE 07 is properly detected when installed, albeit using the menu themes by launching any of the DLCs from the library is broken. I haven't had time to try multiplayer with other people yet, but when it comes to multiplayer, RACE 07 only detects the first network adaptor it finds so you'll need to find a way to force ex. ZeroTier to be the one it finds first, or be the host. Windows clients can detect a Linux host with no additional changes on the Linux end if the clients all have their network adaptor priority changed.

I don't use a wheel and peddle set, so I can't say anything about that. But, controller works fine.

Force feedback only worked with collisions out of the box, but does work fully with installation of new-lg4ff driver.
Despite the performance loss compared to Windows with my hardware, it's still an enjoyable experience.
I was having 100 to 150 fps in Windows with max graphics settings but in Linux I am having 60 fps with medium graphics settings.(resolution is 1920x1080 in both of them)
In Windows, I can connect my gamepad(Logitech F310) and start playing without changing the controller settings. In Linux, pre-configured controller setting for my gamepad is a mess. But you can edit the controller setting and you are ready to go.
Error message at the beginning saying I don't have enough video memory
It says I need 32mb of video memory. I have 6gb of it. It's probably a simple tweak for someone more competent than me.

At the moment you only notice it when you crash your car. I would like to say that this game has is a lot of fun to play on Linux, and also that although it is quite a few years old, it's still a high quality game, so I don't hesitate to recommend him to play with Proton.

Unknown(< 15 minutes with Proton)It runs fine after I installed Protontricks, started Winecfg with it and switched the Wineprefix to Windows XP. If you don't do that an error message with insufficient memory pops up. You might choose to switch back Windows 7 later on.

Then starts and runs on my Potato Linux machine with with 20+ AI cars at 80+FPS with AMD/Nvidia Linux (low power) ondemand setting. Needs no tweaking. Fullscreen and Windowed. Racing Wheel Xinput. XBOX controller with default xpad. Only tested vanilla game (without DLC or user mods) but that would not change the game engine behavior, since all those run on the latest vanilla Race07 patched version on Steam.
