Thief: Deadly Shadows works fine with Full Sneaky Upgrade Patch if you follow the steps provided, enjoy the game!

Finished the game on linux, and it works out really well just install the sneaky upgrade mod.
Its a fun stealth game with some fresh ideas coming from thief 2 unfortunately it is a rushed game with consoles in mind and it is not on the same level as the old thief games.

Install protontricks for for further installation of sneaky upgrade
reassigned the keys to match the settings from dishonored
Other manuals didn’t work for me, so I’ll write how I set up the sneaky upgrade setup
- go to desktop mode
- open discover
- type protontricks and install it
- download sneaky upgrade full herehttps://www.moddb.com/mods/thief-3-sneaky-upgrade/downloads/sneaky-upgrade-fat-edition
- put downloaded file into your game folder (where t3.ini located) Z:/home/deck/local/steam/steamapps/common/Thief Deadly Shadows\System
- run the installer and select thief deadly shadow in the window that appears
- In the same way we launch the configurator, selecting our thief deadly shadow in the window that appears
- Сonfigure everything as you wish and before exiting, click Apply and Close
- Return to game mode and launch game :) Enjoy
I noticed one thing that if you move in a straight line, the character moves very slowly, and if you add diagonal movements, then the speed increases significantly, which makes the game a little unpleasant. Unfortunately, I don’t remember whether this is correct or a steamdeck problem
Replaced runme.exe first the Sneaky mod Installer, then with a copy of T3.exe to start the game patched.

Sneakypatch
Need to disable 'Audio Hardware Mixing' within options for in-game sound to work.
Menus are missing some buttons/textures but still navigable. (Sneaky Upgrade / Minimalist Patch)
To install Sneaky Upgrade:
- Install TDS via Steam
- Go to desktop mode and download the mod installer
- Add the installer exe to Steam as a non-Steam game
- Set the installer compatibility (within Steam) to your proton preference. I used experimental.
- Run the installer via Steam (using your proton compatibility version, and still in desktop mode)
- OK the error
- Point the installer to your TDS location. Usually something like Z:/home/deck/local/steam/steamapps/common/Thief Deadly Shadows
- Apply the mods as you see fit and apply all settings. I would NOT update the save location (meant for windows)
- Run configuration after install and set the config however you like.
- Go to the properties of the installer within Steam, change the target path to the actual TDS location (rough approximation of this path above) and to Thief3.exe, NOT T3.exe
- Change start in location to match the above path (as opposed to for the Sneaky Patch Installer)
- Run the game and test it, disable hardware audio.
I recommend copying a controller template of one of the user control profiles over to your 'non-steam' Sneaky Upgrade so you don't have to configure controls from scratch.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command%
Customised controls further for all keys.
Too dark with Wine's d3d8 implementation. Fixed by using the one from the Sneaky Upgrade mod.
Game crashes with Borderless from the Sneaky Upgrade mod.
The Sneaky Upgrade mod is not strictly needed, but makes the game much better. Just remember to adjust the launch parameters to use its d3d8 wrapper.
If you want to use Reshade use version 5.2.1. Newer versions crash on exit.
Works but only works
Output is forced to 16 bit.
Proton 5.13-6 has no such issue.
Opening locked doors is not stable work - need several tries to start unlocking.
Played with Proton 6.3-8/5.13-6.
Proton 5.13-6 works better.

For a pure vanilla experience, dgVoodoo2 are mandatory. For a modded experience, install TF2-fix.
Requires to change the game executable to the non-ddfix one. Then install dgVoodoo2 and set the WINEDLLOVERRIDES for ddraw to native. Start the dgVoodoo2 configuration applet and remove the alt-tab lock, mouse lock on DirectX tab. This will prevent the game to stall just in a few seconds of gameplay. Finally on General tab disable mouse capture, to avoid the mouse been locked on the top left screen, if you set an upscalled output. Optionally set an upscalled screen resolution and save the dgVoodoo2.conf on the game's directory. With this wrapper the game runs with higher framerates, that otherwise would perform poorly.
Too much slowdown
Works best w/ Proton 3.7-8, but the slow performance is still present
Could not install the Sneaky Upgrade patch (installer can't find the Windows registry entry).

Works good
Played with Proton 5.0-7
No issues.

It works in its purest form. The game has problems but they are not related to the proton. These are problems of poor development of the game itself. Unfortunately, I could not play on Linux because I can’t install the mod on the game Sneaky Upgrade Full Edition. And without it, the game has many bugs.

Game works out of the box on Proton with WineD3D. I copied manually dgVoodoo2, run protontricks GAMEID winecfg, set d3d8 to native and then the game worked on Vulkan with DXVK even when testing it with the new ACO compiler

The game runs perfectly and no tweaks were necessary, one thing that happened it's the mouse was kinda flickering but as strange as it sounds it don't bothered me too much, the resolution is low (4:3) , and also i didn't tried to install the mod yet, but here's the link if anyone wanna try: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138607 .
PTBR:

Works out of the box, only the resolution is a little low.

Working perfectly out of the box.

Ran fine from a clean install but decided to install the sneaky upgrade which fixed some game issues like widescreen along with giving the ability to change the mouse speed. For those having problems with the game being too dark you can use xrandr to change the gamma like so: Before running the game open a term and pater the follow (without quotes)into it. "xrandr --output DVI-D-0 --gamma 1.5:1.5:1.5" You'll have to change DVI-D-0 (which is my primary monitor) to whatever yours is.You can find that by simply running "xrandr" in a term. If my settings are too bright (or dark) then feel free to adjust the gamma settings to your liking.

The game runs perfectly. It has some bugs however, which are not related to wine/proton

Game runs perfectly out of the box, with only one minor issue, the game is too dark and brightness option doesn't change anything. Maybe it's something to do with my driver but I could never figure it out.

Runs out of the box

Runs perfectly. The Sneaky upgrade also works to allow widescreen resolutions if you want them, and you probably want the bug fixes in any case:

The game runs pretty much flawless, out of the box. I didn't do any tweaks. The brightness setting doesn't work, though. And of course, it's an old game, it's only playable in 4:3 resolutions. There are black areas on the left and right edges on the screen, so the game is not distorted.

Flawless. Zero tweaks. Works out of the box. Graphics, audio, controls, videos all work perfectly. Excellent performance.

Played Flawlessly. If only we can play in widescreen resolution :(

Game launches without issue, but mouse cursor is mostly invisible (flickers visibly in certain areas of the screen), making it very difficult to navigate the options menu or the pre-mission screens. In-game works 100% (except for when tips pop up, which makes the cursor flicker). Tried disabling esync and in-game vsync to no effect.

I don't know if everything works exactly as under real Windows, but it seems to run great.

Game seems to work, not sure if it's flawless, but seems to work well
