Works good with build in Proton 9.0-3
env OPENSSL_ia32cap=~0x20000000 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
env OPENSSL_ia32cap=~0x20000000 PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
the game seems to have problems with Intel CPUs of 10-13s gen to fix that: "env OPENSSL_ia32cap=~0x20000000" must be set. Thanks to this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2538025880
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
Performance was not onpar. It ran around 50-80 fps which isn't bad, but in some cases it would drop to 35 to 45fps. Usually this would occur in intense battles and on servers with a high amount of players.
Multiplayer is the only option in this game. Multiplayer is okay, but with high ping and occasional high ping spikes. These high ping spikes usually occur on every server I played and varies from server to server. This problem even happens on Windows 10, it might actually just be the game itself and not Linux/Proton.
Overall the experience was ok, but performance needs improvement.
Fun game for casual pirate game fans and runs well on Linux
Game won't load after 2 minutes
-force-d3d9
1645632810 proton-7.0-1b
Because of sluggish controls, I will never be able to become a great player but for casual play, it is manageable.
some on the in game screens are missing a chunk of the left and right side, like they are chopped off. Maybe a resolution problem?
Controls very sluggish.
Game crashes

Won't launch after tutorial
Game is still playable if you lower settings down and play TDM. Siege is very hard to play due to the slow downs.
Game runs but with significant performance degradation. As soon as you get into close combat situations FPS drops down significantly. Still trying to tweak settings to get things playable.
worked for me out of the box better as on windows i friend for me has some issues on window xd
The game has many bugs even on the Windows version. So things like forced mouse acceleration, crashing, randomly tabbing out and unresponsive controls are actually functioning identically to the Windows version
Somewhat playable around 40-50 FPS with common 10-20 FPS drops

Major glitches and crash after 3 minutes. Unable to switch windows smoothly.
New bug after latest updates
Game ran unreasonably slow/choppy without the use of the 'PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%' Proton launch flag.
Using the '-force-d3d9' launch flag as suggested by the developers broke some graphics. I couldn't see fires, the mortar's range indicator, or the tooltip when mounting swivels.
The game ran slowly/choppy without the use of launch flags.
Loading the game and returning to the menu takes an unreasonable amount of time. After leaving a server, the game stops running smoothly. It runs so slowly that I need to reboot my computer before joining a new server. Even after leaving the game, my computer still runs significantly slower than usual.
I only tried the '-force-d3d9' and 'PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%' launch flags before I was satisfied with the game's performance. I see that other users have reported success with other launch flags. Try a few, yourself.
Added the launch option -force-d3d9
The FPS would go down a lot in boarding and gunfights but this could be improved on by lowering the graphics settings.
Played on a couple of full (54 players) servers with a bunch of friends for 5 hours and noticed no problems besides the FPS dips before adjusting graphics settings.
Game Launch Options were "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" (copy without quotes)
Low FPS during boarding and gunfights
Water wouldn't draw with "-force-gfx" option. Water will be drawn with "-force-d3d" without big problems
ame Launch Options were "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% -force-d3d9" (copy without quotes)
don't know why
Use PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
in the launch options to be able to play the game at a reasonable framerate. Otherwise the game is unplayable
Unless you use the launch option. Other commands like PROTON_NO_D3D10
don't work anymore in the current proton version
Works perfectly with the launch option -force-d3d9 (the developer recommends this launch option for windows too, so it is not a Proton related problem)
Choose one to be able to play the game normally
Only if there are no launch options. -force-d3d9
is an alternative
Use -force-d3d9
in the launch options to get similar results as on windows. Otherwise the game will only run at 5 frames per second
Worked out of the box, can't make out any difference in performance in comparison to Windows 10.
Yarr, seems to be workin' perfectly me matey.
Works really good, although the frame rate is varying. At the start and at the end, I get 26 FPS, while mid-game up to 70 FPS. But you can still play this Game without even recognizing anything.
Works without any tweaks for the latest Version of Proton. Performance is really good with high settings. No errors or crashes so far.
Haven't done a long playthrough but tested a bit of everything. All seems perfectly fine !
Works, needs some time to load and start playing. On Plasma Wayland I had to enforce window rules for window mode with title bars to get it working.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1572108095 This Guide works even with the latest proton version.
Worked great after Wine D3d11 tweak. No problems except a small water artifact in the background on the main titlescreen, gameplay was not affected in any way.
As you would expect, Performance isn't as good as on Windows. PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% works for me perfectly. No issues so far
