Seems to work great out of the box!
Game runs totally fine, skirmish, campaign with cutscene sequences, etc.

Works Out Of the Box.
Menu background "animations" (videos) don't play. Doesn't affect the game or narration.

works fine other than not fullscreen
KDE taskbar is still showing in fullscreen
Runs Well.
Game does not start and/or perform ok unless you disable ESYNC, FSYNC (I have a kernel with fsync enabled) and lastly, in the configurations, vsync. For that in properties, launch options use the string: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
Keyboard issue not related to Proton version. Game always starts minimised on my setup. Alt+tabbing immediately to gain focus fixes issue.
Non-functional keyboard
As others have mentioned, disable Esync. Keyboard does not work at all with Proton 5.0-9. Reverting to Proton 4.11-13 fixed the problem
Keyboard does not work with Proton 5.0-9. Had to revert to 4.11-13
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% (also disabled vsync as advised below)
Only tried single player.
Works well and is stable. Up to you if you can afford the performance hit of disabling Esync for smooth video.
Videos still choppy if Esync not disabled. Unfortunately disabling Esync came with a large performance penalty on my machine.
textures of buildings and units are semi-transparent.
Game shows initial splash screen, but then gives a "Could not reset the Direct3D device.

Adding PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% to the custom launch option will fix poor FPS. I also recommend disabling Vsync in game as well.

Use: PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%, Without the esync flag the game videos are choppy. Without use wine d3d flag THe game will show splash then give an error saying something like cannot reset d3d device, and not load

Haven't tried online

Game is unresponsive to the point of being unplayable during video playback and in menu screens if esync is enabled. Once disabled I was able to play all campaign missions with no other problems.

Just add PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% to the launch options. Works great.

Disabling esync was the only fix that I needed to apply before getting this game working to a playable extent. Cursor is visible, graphics are decent, videos actually play smoothly.

Videos would not play until I disabled Esync and everything worked fine. Videos then all played fine. Played for just under an hour.

Blank menu background, choppy cutscenes and audio, but it runs.

Splash sceen opens, then shortly thereafter a popup error appears: "D3D9 Application Could not reset the Direct 3D device. This application will now exit."

Game works okay, but fmv's stop after few frames and have to be skipped.

had to RENAME/REMOVE video file in data (movies.meg) this allows the game to operate, simply pressing ESCAPE at any video cutscene's normal playback at this point would resume normal loading. this also seemed to load at "decent" speeds... "avatar portraits" also did not load in missions (e.g surak), instead greyed out. that could be the fault of movies.meg though... performance was lousy, dropped settings to minimum, actually had to exit entirely as it did not flush the gpu for the new settings. i'm ballparking around 25fps. with dips to maybe 15. (no fps counter) that said, the game's core seems mostly operational, i'd bet finding out why wine's d3d11 works is the best bet to going to a gold or platinum rating.

Gets through the first few loading screens, but freezes at main menu with only cursor responsive.

Loading times are unusually high and the menus are sometimes unresponsive for long amounts of time. Gameplay is fine.

Working but too slow + freezes

Wont start properly. Had to Tab-out and back in to trick me into the Gamemenu-Screen. And in the Mainmenu i have literally 1 FPS.

Slow launch Black screen after lauching a capain

Game does not run. The following message appears 'D3D9 application. Could not reset the Direct 3D device. This application will now exit'.

Completely froze the entire desktop on the initial loading screen - I had to log out with ctrl+alt+del.

The start of the game, lvl and main menu is (very) slow as well as saving. But otherwise the game works fine. Just if you have patience in the manues you can play without problems

Menus are slow to respond, cinematic is a black screen, gameplay itself is pretty solid.

Crashes after start, sents error to the devs but doesn't give any information on it directly to me.

Cutscenes don't work. Managed to get past it by bashing keys, played the first mission of the campaign, the game crashed when I finished the main objective.

Grey Goo did start after initial crash and re-start. Cinematic sequence will play under 1 FPS. In-game menu is slow to initialize but after that will be responsive as it should be. Could not start the campaign due to the cinematic issue, but started the skirmish game and it played normally with barely noticeable stutter.

Game itself is stable, but cinematic sequence cant play, main menu is sluggish and short freeze on win/loss
