Note that you can play STORY MODE ONLY on Deck, which is a shame since BattleEye is doing nothing to make GTA online any better.
Dialed back clock speed and wattage limit slightly.
Social Club menu requires mouse or touch screen for first use only.
When touching controller configuration for any reason, then switching back to the game, the game would freeze and need to be restarted.
Details in "controller" section.
Story mode works great, as long as you don't mess with controller settings mid-game.

I tried each of these indiviually and they did nothing to get me online.

Rockstar has chosen to lock out linux users, not Battle Eye. All rockstar has to do is flick the linux support switch on in their dashboard.

Game runs but terribly slow out of the box. Installing DXVK helps immensely. I havent tried online because I dont like it. I went from having 50 fps with minimum settings in DX11 to getting max settings at 50 to 60fps with DXVK (install 64bit).

Unplayable in it's current state.

Worked ok, until Rockstar killed it. It ran ok on the deck and better on my main PC. All to "stop" hackers, which are still running wild.
Turn everything down to "normal" aka the lowest setting
Game tends to fail to unload low quality textures/geometry during long play sessions
These stats represent the game before the update that made it unusable online, which is why many people play the game today. Story mode will still function, but Online is the section with the most attention being given.

Only enjoyable for single player, online multiplayer isn't supported and would be a deal breaker for most people.

Used Launch Arguments to Access
Rockstar Launcher constantly signs out and is irritating to re-sign into (on-screen keyboard required). If you don't have internet, then good luck as the game often fails to verify you own it unless you go online and sign back in
Had to turn down graphics down to normal from high on some values

BattlEye has yet to work on the Steam Deck...
Added BattlEye which makes multiplayer unusable

Capped to 30FPS
On Mid to High settings it runs good on capped 30 FPS, online works good too

I followed the following Reddit guide https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1awzm24/gta_v_error_134_heroic/
Upon re-entering the game from sleep the audio becomes crackly. Fixes upon restarting the game
I had to use an external keyboard to log into the Rockstar Launcher

The trackpad for the Rockstar launcher does not work, you need to use the touchscreen to log in.
Some texts in the game are very difficult to read. The text in the quests is readable.
Several times, the texts completely disappeared. Sometimes waking up from sleep mode messes up textures (no texture clarity or texture color changes). The defects are fixed by restarting.

Set top right back grip to mash a for running.
If you have Half Rate Shading it makes text blurry.
Runs at an inconsistent 30-50 FPS.
The game runs well no problems besides online.
Heroic Games Launcher version wont work
The game will run out of memory and crash the deck
I have the Epic Games Store version of the game, I've used to run on Heroic Games Launcher but recently a update in the game broke the compatibility, you get Error 134, there is a fix for that error but it gave me a different "Authentication Error". I've tried with Lutris and due to having a different setup process it did worked. But I've ended up manually installing Epic Games launcher directly through Steam and installing the game that way.
The major problem I had is the Steam Deck running out of RAM and completely crashing. The game starts at about 10GB of RAM used (thats combining SteamOS, Epic and Rockstar Launchers and the game) and slowly creeps when hits 14.2GB of main memory and completely lock and eventually reboot the deck. I could confirm that behaviour with my main system which has more memory and the game keeps using memory.
To solve that, i've disabled every feature on Epic Game Launcher settings besides Offline Browsing, including Cloud Saves because Rockstar does the cloud saving for you. That reduced Epic usage. I've also learned that two things make the game creep memory way faster, higher FPS and vsync on. So, i've disabled vsync and relied on SteamOS framecap to lock at 60. That seems to solve it. But for safety I've increased my Deck Swap Space from 1GB default to 8GB. That made the game behave at around max 13.6GB and I have a happy 3 hour session without issues. I think it will eventually leak to 14.2GB but if that happens I recommend you to just reboot the game every 4 or so hours to make sure.
Besides that the game run fine at most of the time locked 60 FPS (if you unlock it will run at around 70 to 90 actually and crash hahaha) with FXAA and all settings to normal at native 800p, going lower than that does not seem to increase performance. I have the occasional dips to 45, 50 with heavy open conflicts but that seems to happen no matter the settings. I had about 2 to 2:30 of battery life.

The normal settings works like a charm you can pump up the setting to the highest and the game would still works flawlessly.
With the new steamos 3.5.5 it works lile a charm, you get 40-50FPS in an online session(public) and 50-60FPS in a private session.
при выходе из спящего режима сразу в игру

The game works perfectly on experimental. If you wanna mod GTA5 though, don't even bother. Modding GTA5 on Linux is near impossible due to the sheer amount of Microsoft dependencies the mod scripts use and mileage varies even if you do somehow get them working.

I do not see a reason why you would not enjoy this game on linux, feels as good as one on windows. Surley better than xbox one, tested.
40 fps (80hz) lock
Do not forget, you need to hold "STEAM" button to move your mouse around in Rockstar Social club.
Just about comparable with PC version.
I recommend settings low to mid, lock on 40fps. Graphics are still good on small steam deck display and you get reduced fan noise and better battery life. And it will be still better than xbox one experience.

cryo utility
10 TDP - 1000 Clock - 45HZ. Setting follow internet guide
It kinda depends on your WIFI connection speed

The game runs great on Steam Deck. I have played it in car rides and it is not a huge waste of battery
I had trouble typing in my login details for the Rockstar Launcher using the onscreen keyboard. After a restart, the onscreen keyboard started working with the launcher and my issue went away.
I have no clue what the default graphics settings are, it seemed to use the ones from my Windows laptop a year before, which is weaker than the Steam Deck. I turned up the settings a bit and it continued running fine

GTA Online works pretty flawlessly on Steam Deck.
Game runs extremely well and looks pretty great after getting past the first-time launcher setup and fixing resolution. Found decent graphics settings on reddit that the game runs really great at 45-60 FPS (depends on location in the world). With those settings best you can get is about 90 minutes on battery. Such a great game to solo grind the online content.

runs at 60 fps most of the time. although at first launch the resolution defaults to 800x600. easy change though in the game settings
runs really well for a windows native game

GTA Online suffers from performance problems in solo lobbies and especially in lobbies populated with players.

I personally feel that "Typical Gamers" dont want to deal with any hassle whatsoever. The Rockstar sign in might scare gamers away.
Purchased thru Steam but uses the Rockstar Launcher, Internet is needed for installation but shouldnt be needed after to operate
Target FPS - 60fps with frame drops as low as 30 fps around Vinewood, Pacific Bluffs, and when explosions are present on screen.
Pickup & Play - After Initial Setup and Graphic Settings, Yes.
User Experience - No Setup for controls were needed, everything felt good.
Pros: Game looks Fantastic and feels great to be able to play GTA V on the go or in Handheld form. GTA V Online is even better.
Cons: Framrate dips are noticeable but not irritating. "Typical Gamers" will probably look away from the intital setup.
Final Thoughts - Im actually stunned this Game isnt Platinum or even Verified when games like Monster Hunter World, Satisfactory, Supraland Six Inches Under, Cyberpunk 2077, or even Subnautica all have "Native Tier" or "Platinum Tier" ratings or even Verified on deck when all of which run either equal/worse than GTA V. The only flaw thats noticable to me is the intial setup process which is just using the sub Rockstar Launcher forcing the user to use the internet to log in and configuring your graphics settings. I feel like if i handed my deck over to a "Typical Gamer" who's played these games before and had them play GTA V first, then made them try Valheim, they'd probably have some words to say too. Gta V Personaly should be Verified and or evenPlatnium rated, it felt so nice to play this so easy with little hassle and then to play online after with friends felt just as easy. My expierence has only been expierenced in Gaming Mode, not Desktop Mode. I did not try to use a bluetooth/usb gamepads during my testing. Overall - 10/10

I had my doubts, but GTA 5 runs like a dream on the Steam Deck! Right from the get-go, installation was a breeze and the game launched without a hiccup. Graphics are crisp, detailed, and the game maintains a consistent frame rate even in the most action-packed scenes.
Controls on the Steam Deck feel intuitive for this title and the built-in controller responsiveness is spot on. No noticeable input lag whatsoever. The audio is clear, and all game features are accessible and functional.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the load times; they’re quite snappy, ensuring that you're immersed in the world of Los Santos in no time.
For those looking to take their GTA 5 experience on-the-go, the Steam Deck delivers an optimal performance that doesn't compromise the game's quality. It truly feels like having a mini-console in your hands.
L5 and R5 changed to left+right stick click for easier special power activation; L4 and R4 changed to bumpers for easier drive-by shooting.
Settings described later on
Game ran visibly slower around Legion Square, whenever it was visible; when quickly loading the map (mostly when driving around the city at high speed) the game slowed down, although that might be due to me running the game off a cheap microSD card.
Typical GTA Online issue of sessions with more (10+) players being taxing for all the players in said session. Other than that the game was flawless (for GTA:O standards).
Game runs perfectly fine and I've been able to 100% the story mode without any bigger issues. The Deck's built in suspend works fine with the game and can be used to create an empty public session in GTA:O. CryoUtilities don't seem to change much with this game. Crashed a couple times in my 8+ hours gameplay
I installed Epic version trough Heroic and it worked without a single extra step (besides installing Heroic itself), even the controller just worked. You have to login to your Rockstar account like any Rockstar game but it just worked and even cloud syncing is fine.
I've played about half the story on the deck, on low settings with only FXAA I get from 40 to 60 FPS and about 2 hours of battery life. Since its a 10 years old game I dont think its a good performance on the deck but its playable.
The game crashed for me about 2 or 3 times in a 8+ hour gameplay freezing the image and playing only the Radio song on the background. You can open the Steam menu and close the game then open it again.

Lovely experience. Works out of the box with no issues. Can notice minor frame drops to 45fps once in maybe 60mins of gameplay.
No issues noticed at all.

You need to set it to borderless window
Set window mode to borderless. Resolution to 800p. For the rest search on YouTube for best settings as there are a lot of videos on this subject, but it works on high at 30fps. Online plays great.

If one version of Proton does not work try, Eperimental, then try GE, then Hotfix.. All fail, then leave a report. Many people simply did not try go actually fix the issue, Gaming on Linux can be plug & play but it is a PC OS. You will have to fix problems, especially for Live servie always updated games. Disapointed in the ProtonDB Community.

Game starts up just fine with Proton Hotfix. Runs great too. Just set windowing mode to borderless windowed to fix issue with changing game settings.
Set refresh rate to 40. You can pretty much run the game at Max Graphics with FXAA and It'll be a fairly stable 40 fps.
